Sorry dude for using the PG acronym.
OA stands for Official Answer i.e. the correct answer of the problem.
A cash register in a certain clothing store is the same distance from two dressing rooms in
the store. If the distance between the two dressing rooms is 16 feet, which of the
following could be the distance between the cash register and either dressing room?
I. 6 feet
II. 12 feet

III. 24 feet
A. I only
B. II only
C. III only
D. I and II

E. II and III

Hi . It should be posted in problem solving forum.. anyways the answer is E...

The smallest distance is 8ft.. on straight line.
The farthest distance can be anything... so 12 and 24 fit in the solution.. hence it must be E.

Consider an isoceles triangle:

Let the 2 sides be x and the remaining side 12
Consider the two sides to be 6,
In a triangle sum of any two sides should be greater than the third side -6+6=12 violates condition so not possible

consider 12
possible equilateral triangle

consider 14

again possible
Difference and sum rule of triangle satisfied so possible

Ans:E

My answers for 1 and 2 --

1. One vertice is at (-1,-2) and sides of rectangle are llel to x and y axis so for calculating perimeter we have to know the diagonally opposite side of the rectangle.

Option 1 gives one vertice but that will only give length or breadth, not sufficient.

Option 2 gives the diagonlly opposite side and we can draw a complete rectangle with its help and can know the length and breadth as 5 and 3 respectively. Sufficient.

Answer should be B.
2. Avg price of the house is 120,000 so the total price will be 360,000.

Option 1 says T paid 110,000 so amount paid by J and S could be 100,000 and 150,000 OR 120,000 and 130,000. In bothe these cases, median will be different. Not sufficient.

Option 2 says J paid 120000 so in all the conditions only 120,000 will be the median. Sufficient.

Answer should be B.

3. Ans C
Consider there are 100 projects so as per question

25 of the projects have 4 or more employees
35 of the projects have 2 or fewer employees

so rest ie 40 projects have 3 employees each
So the median no: of employees wiil be 3.

A certain jar contains only b black marbles, w white marbles and r red marbles. If one marble is to be chosen at random from the jar, is the probability that the marble chosen will be red greater than the probability that the marble chosen will be white?

(1) r/(b+w) > w/(b+r)
(2) b-w > r

Answer must be A.
1) is only satisfied when Red marbles are more than white marbles. So sufficient.
2) is not sufficient, because 6-3>2 satisfies the equation where white are more than red however 5-1>3 also satisfies it where red are more than white. So insufficient.

1)Is the measure of one of the interior angles of the quadrilateral 60?
1)Two of the interior angles are 90 deg
2)The degree measure of ABC is twice the degree measure of BCD

2)K is a positive integer. is k the square of an integer?
1)K is divisible by 4
2)K is divisible by exactly 4 different prime numbers

According to me:

For q 1:
let B and D= 90
C=45 so A isnt 60

if a=d= 90
then x+2x=180
x=60

So inconclusive E

But the ans says C

2)If k is divisible by 4 different prime numbers then does it imply that the 4 different prime numbers are the only factors of K?

If x and y are positive integers and x is a multiple of y, is y = 2?
(1) y 1
(2) x + 2 is a multiple of y.

If x and y are positive integers and x is a multiple of y, is y = 2?
(1) y 1

(2) x + 2 is a multiple of y.

I think the answer should be option C.

x is a multiple of y i.e. x = ny, where n = Integer

Option 1 is not sufficient.

Option 2 is not sufficient because if y is 1 then both x and x+2 will be a multiple of y.

Option 1 and 2 : y can't be 1. Now, if both x and x+2 are multiple of y, y has to be 2. Sufficient.

Whats the OA ?

If x is a multiple of y
x=ny
x+2=(n+1)y
x+2=yn+y
x+2=x+y
since ny=x

so y=2

I think the answer should be option C.

Hi,

I am not sure if I got what you exactly want to refer but here is what I meant to say --

x and (x+2) will be multiples of y for both y = 1 and y = 2. So, we can not be sure.

When we consider both option 1 and option 2, it clarifies that y 1, so y has to be 2 only as only in that case both x and x+2 will be a multiple of y.

E.g - 4 and 6 both are multiple of only 1 and 2, if y is not 1 then it has to be 2 only.

I hope am clear.

Hi Pugs,

Q.81 OG10. I am not able to get the answer to this problem even after reading the solution, can someone please point out where i am going wrong.

If x and y are integers and y = x+3 + |4-x, does y = 7?
1. x 2. x > -3.

In the solution it is given that if x 7 for option 1.
For option 2 it is given that if x > 4 than y >7. And therefore the answer is C.

Here is my solution:
For the first option assume x = -4
y = -4 + 3| + |4-(-4)
= -1 + 8
= 7

For second option assume x = 5
y = 5 + 3| + 4 - 5
= 8 + (-1)
=7
My answer is D.

I think it is a silly error that i m doing. Can someone help and point that out to me.

Thanks in advance.

You had -->
For the first option assume x = -4
y = -4 + 3| + |4-(-4)
= -1 + 8
= 7

- 4 + 3 | = -1 = 1 and not -1.

and coming to the solution., when x7.

Similarly.. if x > 4 .. we get y >7.

Hence combing both the options... -3
Hope this helps
