Although aspirin has been proven to eliminate moderate fever associated with some illnesses, many doctors no longer routinely recommend its use for this purpose. A moderate fever stimulates the activity of the ody's disease-fighting white blood cells and also inhibits the growth of many strains of disease-causing bacteria.

If the statements above are true, which of the following conclusions is most strongly supported by them?

(A) Aspirin, an effective painkiller, alleviates the pain and discomfort of many illnesses.
(B) Aspirin can prolong a patient's illness by eliminating moderate fever helpful in fighting some diseases.
(C) Aspirin inhibits the growth of white blood cells, which are necessary for fighting some illnesses.
(D) The more white blood cells a patient's body produces, the less severe the patient's illness will be.
(E) The focus of modern medicine is on inhibiting the growth of disease-causing bacteria within the body.

'C' is wrong.....
the usage is 'either THIS or THAT .....' and not the other way round as shown in 'C'......
'D' is indeeed correct dude....

A study of marital relationships in which one partner's sleeping and waking cycles differ from those of the other partner reveals that such couples share fewer activities with each other and have more violent arguments than do couples in a relationship in which both partners follow the same sleeping and waking patterns. Thus, mismatched sleeping and waking cycles can seriously jeopardize a marriage.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument above?

(A) Married couples in which both spouses follow the same sleeping and waking patterns also occasionally have arguments than can jeopardize the couple's marriage.
(B) The sleeping and waking cycles of individuals tend to vary from season to season.
(C) The individuals who have sleeping and waking cycles that differ significantly from those of their spouses tend to argue little with colleagues at work.
(D) People in unhappy marriages have been found to express hostility by adopting a different sleeping and waking cycle from that of their spouses.
(E) According to a recent study, most people's sleeping and waking cycles can be controlled and modified easily.

I think the answer should be B. From the first line "although aspirin has been proven to eliminate moderate fever associated with some illnesses", we can infer that use of aspirin to curb the mild fever associated with the illness actually prolongs the illness.

the answer should be 'D' . Assumption of the argument --> sleeping patterns leads to marital problems. However, D says that marital problems compells the partners to have different sleeping patterns.
B is the correct answer!!

Analysis:
A/C/E is not correct. The comparison is wrong.
Now this leaves us with B and D. The comparison 'older than...' is correctly used. But B has used the word 'supposed' which is correct. 'Supposedly' sounds wrong too.

Praveer,

B & D are wrong, since the writer talks about the discovery that the monument is as old as others present in the same region.

This leaves A, C and E. E is grammatically incorrect, C also conveys different idea.
Hence, A

Manufacturers sometimes discount the price of a product to retailers for a promotion period when the product is advertised to consumers. Such promotion often result in a dramatic increase in amount of product sold by the manufacturers to retailers. Nevertheless, the manufacturers could often make more profit by not holding the promotions.

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the claim above about the manufacturers' profit?

(A) The amount of discount generally offered by manufacturers to retailers is carefully calculated to represent the minimum needed to draw consumers' attention to the product.

(B) For many consumer products the period of advertising discounted prices to consumers is about a week, not sufficiently long for consumers to become used to the sale price.

(C) For products that are not newly introduced, the purpose of such promotions is to keep the products in the minds of consumers and to attract consumers who are currently using competing products.

(D) During such a promotion retailers tend to accumulate in their warehouses inventory bought at discount; they then sell much of it later at their regular price.

(E) If a manufacturer fails to offer such promotions but its competitor offers them, that competitor will tend to attract consumers away from the manufacturer's product.

Ok...I think the answer is A. The question as I understood is: which of the following if true will make the promotions useless to the manufacturers (to earn profit)?
A describes that normally the discount offered to retailers by manufacturers is carefully calculated...it is such that it is the minimum reqd to draw consumer attention. Hence, holding promotion will not necessarily add any value to the manufacturer (to add profit).
B talks about the period being abt a week and the consumer being accustomed to the sale price...doesn't seem to fit here.
C supports promotions
If D is true, it will add profit to retailers, not manufacturers.
E supports promotions.

Cheers!

As i have posted, you dont say,... Ram is 10years AS OLD AS Shyam. When you read this, it sound incorrect. the corrrect usage is ... Ram is 10years OLDER THAN Shyam.

first of all I am no guru wuru!!
I love CR's !! I feel that the answer is D

I generally solve by assuming the answer to be true and then see what happens...if d happens....the whole pupose is defeated...cuz they are misusing the scheme...the retailers...accumulating will benefit the retailers as they will get guds at lower prices but the customers wont benefit from the scheme...the imp point to look for here is :
Such promotion often result in a dramatic increase in amount of product sold by the manufacturers to retailers.

manufacturer to retailer....not to customer!!!

all other choices are out of scope...competitors, new products, consumer products are misleading...and shift of scope...u r adding adjetives here...not allowed when u hav to argue.
that eliminates B, C and E

A is infact counter evidence....cuz it says that the scheme will help the manufacturers...but see carefully...here we hav to prove that the scheme is not wise!!

Tip: eliminate first. Also see what we have to prove disprove...
