Hi guys,

Can you let me know any good book name on GMAT?

It will be very helpful......

The Kaplan 800 is good. even u can try Manhattan verbal review for SC
hey friends
tell me if the question is wrong or right!!!!
coz the answer that i suppose should ,is wrong

hey any idea about test beside gmat prep...want tp practice maths..but the answers should be correct!

Hi Freinds,

I got this question in GMATprep, so 'm sure that many of u would have done it,
If xy =1 , what is the value of 2(x+y)(x+y)/2(x-y)(x-y)
Options are :
2
4
8
16
32
Really confused as '2' in numer. & denom. will cancel out so Y is it given ??

Consider that 1st year the ht of tree is 4x, 2nd year it wl be 4x^2.... 4th year 4x^4 & 6th year 4x^6
it says that the tree was 1/5 taller than it was at the end of 4th year
i.e 4x^6 = 4x^4+1/5(4x^4)
solving this we get x = 6/5..

wats the OA...

not sure how u got 6/5...thats the OA...there is no answer explanation..n its part of ets paper

Can someone help me with the following questions from GmatPrep?

Q1. Five pieces of wood have an average (arithmetic mean) length of 124 centimeters and a median length of 140 centimeters. What is the maximum possible length in centimeters of the shortest piece of wood?

A.90 B.100 C.110 D.130 E.140

Q2. In May, Mrs. Lee's earnings were 60% of the Lee Family's total income. In June Mrs.Lee earned 20% more than in May. If the rest of the family's income was the same boths months, then, in June, Mrs. Lee's earnings were approximately what percent of the Lee family's total income?

A.64% B.68% C.72% D.76% E.80%

Please also provide explanation for choosing your answer? OA's will follow after some threads on this.

Following are DS questions from GmatPrep. Need help on them.

Q1. Is the measure of one of the interior angles of quadrilateral ABCD equal to 60 degrees?
1. Two of the interior angles of ABCD are right angles
2. The degree measure of angle ABC is twice the degree measure of angle BCD

Q2. m & r are 2 numbers on a number line. What is the value of r?
1. The distance between r & 0 is 3 times the distance between m & 0
2. 12 is halfway between m & r

Q3. If set S consists of the numbers 1, 5, -2, 8 & n, is 01. The median of numbers in S is less than 5
2. The median of numbers in S is greater than 1

Q4. For manufacturer M, the cost C of producing X units of its product per month is given by C= kx + t, where C is in dollars & k & t are constants. Last month, if manufacturer M produced 1000 units of its product & sold all the units for k+60 dollars each, what was manufacturer M's gross profit on the 1000 units?
1. Last month, if manufacturer M's revenue from the sale of the 1000 units was $1,50,000
2. Manufacturer M's cost of producing 500 units in a month is $45,000 less than its cost of producing 1000 units in a month

Please post answers with explanation. I will post the OA's after a few replies.

Hi MSD,

Ans 1) 100 ,
since avg. of 5 woods is 124, total length of al the woods is 124*5 = 620.
Median is 140 ie. 3rd wood is of size 140.
To make the shortest wood maximum we should minimize the lengths of all other woods. So 1st, 2nd 3rd no. woods = 140*3.
620 - 420 = 200 = sum of lengths of 2 smallest woods ,
So max. length of smallest wood is 100. => 100,100,140,140,140

Ans 2) 72
Simplest way to solve would be to set family income in may to 100$
=> mrs. Lee's earnings = 60$
In June Mrs. Lee earned 20% more than in May
So, earnings of Mrs. Lee in June = 72$
& the total earnings of the family remans the same ie. 100$
therefore 72%

This a DS question :

What is the value of a^-2 b^-3?

(1) a^-3b^-2 = 36^-1
(2) ab^-1 = 6^-1

The above DS question Lots of them have given answer as (C)

i have a different take on this one
explanation

a^-3 b^-2 = 36^-1 so a^-3 b^-2= 1^-3 6^-2 ( I dont see any other possiblity)

so we get a and b so can answer using 1 alone

same for statement 2 , ab^-1= 6^-1 so a b^-1= 1 6^-1 so we get a and b so can answer from statement 2 alone.

So answer should be D and not C

You've got the Q1 correct. However, answer for Q2 is actually 64% and not 72%. I think what they've dont is they've kept the rest of the family's income constant instead of the total family income. I.e $40 is kept constant instead of $100....so the total income in June becomes 72+40 = 112. Hence, 72 as a percentage of 112 is 64%

1. E
Two cases r possible where ABC = 90 deg, BCD = 45 deg, CDA= 90 deg, ABC = 135 deg.
and ABC = 120 deg; BCD = 60 deg; CDA= 90 deg; ABC = 90 deg.

2. E
again two cases of r and m are possible ( 6, 18 ), (-12, 36)

3. D.
A only we get median never lesser then 1 or B only we get median never greater then 5 or
4. E. In neither A or B can we obtain the value of t

Ans for the question is 4.
Explanation:
To find out 10th place we will look for the cyclicity of last 2 digit.
Cyclicity for 07 goes as follows :
07^1 = 07
07^2 = 49
07^3 = 43
07^4 = 01
07^5 = 07

so 7^202 will end in 49. thus answer will be 4.

Hope this clears your doubt
