1.. the subject under question here is "animal-hide shields with wooden frames".( a verbal description follows starting with a verb)..the modifier for this subject subject has to be between C & D..in D we see it ends with of..it should be for instead of of..we can come down to C as the right

for 2...subject here in question is chartered vacations..so the pronoun should be they..so we see the sequence of tense and see that..it has to be between A and C( B.. a present indefinite compared to present..instead this clause has to be in past ).. C although beers the same meaning.it's awkward to me..

Can someone please explain ???

@Hemanth_28

Soaring television costs accounted for more than half the spending in the presidential campaign of 1992. ________ in any previous election.

Now the comparison is between the "costs" and not the "cost" per say.. so they is used.

======

To develop more accurate population forecasts, demographers ___________ determinants of fertility.

D.would have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economic
E.would have to know a great deal more than now about the social and economical

I myself marked D as my option, why D is something I explained in the prev posts.. seems that is incorrect bcoz of one very silly miss from my side.. E is the correct answer indeed.

see, the author is talking about population forecasts.. and about the determinats for the population.. now the determinants have to be cheap (as implied in the true sense of the sentence..).. and so economical and not economic.. the sentence sounds awkward with economic determinants.. but makes complete sense when we say 'social & economical determinants of population forecasts'

hope that helps!! πŸ˜‰

The only words that make C wordy are "than they do now" --- and they are used to compare.
