Studies reveal that the mohenjodaro monuments in india are nearly 6000 years as old as any of their supposed Mediterranean predecessors.
A.as old as any of their supposed B.older than any of there supposed C.as old as their supposed D.older than any of their supposedly E.as old as their supposedly
well.. the OA is option C.. C. at which humans are known to have made I dont have any solid explanation for this.. but after knowing the OA, it suddenly sounds better than any other options..
Scientists have dated sharp-edged flakes of stone found in the fine-grained sediments of a dry riverbed in the Afar region of Ethiopia to between 2.52 and 2.60 million years ago, pushing back by more than 150,000 years the earliest date when it is known that humans made stone tools.
A. when it is known that humans made B. at which it is known that humans had made C. at which humans are known to have made D. that humans are known to be making E. of humans who were known to make
IMO A. I think its safe enough to choose "when" because date/time is involved. Detailed explanation in red.
Imo A.
E. date of humans is incorrect D.to be making is present continuous C.To have made present perfect, wrong B. had made does not have a companion simple past to indicate the sequence
Puys please post the OA and expln
you just got entangled in the GMAT trap..
to me it seems that "when" in option A is modifying "it is".. and hence makes it an incoherent sentence..
You are right. I got trapped terribly My answer wasnt convincing to me either. I looked around for this problem. Apparantly "at which" can be used for date!!!
well.. the OA is option C.. C. at which humans are known to have made I dont have any solid explanation for this.. but after knowing the OA, it suddenly sounds better than any other options..
Hi Varun, is there any expln provided in the source? If yes, then please post the expln here so that we can reason further.:lookround:
lemme try ;) Scientists have dated sharp-edged flakes of stone found in the fine-grained sediments of a dry riverbed in the Afar region of Ethiopia to between 2.52 and 2.60 million years ago, pushing back by more than 150,000 years the earliest date ______________stone tools.
A. when it is known that humans made looks like it is today's date that gets shifted back B. at which it is known that humans had made "pushing back the date at which it is known" is incoherent with the context of the sentence. Awkward or rather no meaning at all. C. at which humans are known to have made "pushing back the date at which" blah blah blah.. doesnt sound wrong.. not very appealing, though not wrong either.. D. that humans are known to be making I chose this one.. "pushing back the date that humans are" same as option A, looks like it is today's date that gets shifted back E. of humans who were known to make "pushing back date of humans" ...this has "wrong" written all over it.
I simply discarded all the wrong ones, and was left with most (and only) suitable option, i.e. option C. hope that helps!!
well.. the OA is option C.. C. at which humans are known to have made I dont have any solid explanation for this.. but after knowing the OA, it suddenly sounds better than any other options..

A. distinguish their speech from B.distinguishes their manner of speaking from C. distinguish their speech from that of D. distinguish the way they speak from E. distinguishes their speech from those of
A, B , D...all compare the speech to region.
E - distinguishes is incorrect as the subject 'utterances' is plural.

A.as old as any of their supposed B.older than any of their supposed C.as old as their supposed D.older than any of their supposedly E.as old as their supposedly
See the corrected option...
OA is B
A, C, D - 'as old as' is wrong as it tends to say that the ages of the monuments are same. when the phrase 'nearly 6000 years' intends to say one is 'older' than the other.
Now b/w B and D
the difference is '....supposed' and '.....supposedly'
both supposed and supposedly modify 'Mediterranean monuments (an adjective)'
got to be C the closest one is E but it uses plural form of "those of" for singular speech and hence ignored.

A. distinguish their speech from B.distinguishes their manner of speaking from C. distinguish their speech from that of D. distinguish the way they speak from E. distinguishes their speech from those of

The correct response is (C).
The original sentence (A) makes an illogical comparison between speech and region. (C) corrects the problem in the original version by adding that of.
(B) and (D) each fail to correct the illogical comparison between speech and region. Also, (B) incorrectly uses the singular verb distinguishes instead of the plural form.
(E) corrects the illogical comparison. However, (E) incorrectly uses the singular verb distinguishes. The verb must agree with its plural subject utterances. (E) also incorrectly uses those instead of the correct relative pronoun that (to refer to the singular speech).

is = linking verb ... 'much superior' = subjective complement here the subjective complement is an adjectival phrase... subjective complements can be only adjectival/ nominal phrases superior is adjective... much modifies superior ...(much is modifying adjective.. so adverb)

Tough choice between a and c. here c has a more parallel structure and meaning. In C the meaning comes as because he is modest he will not publish his poetry.
2.Although it claims to delve into political issues, television can be superficial such as when each of the three major networks broadcast exactly the same statement from a political candidate. (A) superficial such as when each of the three major networks (B) superficial, as can sometimes occur if all of the three major networks (C) superficial if the three major networks all (D) superficial whenever each of the three major networks (E) superficial, as when the three major networks each
broad cast is plural, so we need a plural subj, IMo C
3.Although it was expected that workers under forty would show hostility to the plan, the research report indicates that both younger and the older people approve of governmental appropriations for Social Security. (A) Younger and the older people (B) Younger people and the older (C) The younger and the older people (D) Younger and older people (E) People who are younger and those who are older
IMO D. Only D has two parallel elements. Younger and older.
4.Although Napoleons army entered Russia with far more supplies than they had in their previous campaigns, it had provisions for only twenty-four days. (A) they had in their previous campaigns (B) their previous campaigns had had (C) they had for any previous campaign (D) in their previous campaigns (E) for any previous campaign
Here we have army so all plural pronouns are ruled out. Only E remains.
