4.wine growers still harvest grapes as has been done
5.wine growers still harvest grapes as they did
If you look at later part of the sentence ".....their crop and storing their precious fruit....."
So eliminate 2&4.
you can eliminate 5 also here, because it uses simple past. "...for centuries...." means - they did it in the past and still continue doing that.So this requires a present perfect tense...
(you can understand that a present perfect tense is required by just looking at ..."for..." also)
3 is passive voice.so i will rather look if any better options are there.
yes, i see 1 which is gramatically correct and thus better than 3.
so 1) would be my answer.

There are 2 things here. This a present perfect, as the harvesting is still going on and "their " in the second phrase.
Only A satisfies both the conditions.

IMO A.
We all know in this sentence , the tussle is between A and E.
E, as Darth indicated , does not seem parallel and I agree. Besides it's wordier compared to A.
A has a problem in that it could mean that "tested" could propel the aircraft.. But i wouldnt consider that a flaw in this context because "that" can very remotely refer to "tested". If the option said:
Jet engine is undergoing a testing that could propel... In this case I would highly refrain from this option because "that" clearly refers to testing.
Plz feel free to object.
After more than four decades of research and development, a new type of jet engine is being tested that could eventually propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or help boost cargoes into space at significantly lower costs than current methods permit.

equal is the exact same.. however equivalent refers to a degree of similiarity - not 100%.
