George Winters SaysPuys, Another one goes: Under the new corporate insurance policy, when an employer is charged for damages to a third party wholly or largely as a result of actions by an employee, he is entitled to recoup the amount of the damages. (A) he is entitled to recoup (B) the employer is entitled to recoup (C) he or she is entitled to recoup (D) he is entitled to recoup for (E) the employer is entitled to recoup for This promises to make clear the usage of pronouns. Explanations please!!!!
A,C,D are wrong coz of "he" as we are talking bout the company here...
Out of B and E, E is unidiomatic(recoup for)
Ans : B

That's a good point. I actually went for 'C' thinking employer to be a human entity rather than a object. Thanks
The Western worlds love affair with chocolate is well-documented: few people have been known to have tasted it for the first time without requesting more. (A) few people have been known to have tasted it (B) few having been known to taste it (C) it has been tasted by few people (D) few people have been known to taste it (E) few people having tasted it. Once you answer this question with the given choices, please try to answer if the below choice is also added. (F) few people being known to have tasted it
I feel option (d) is the right choice because as the action talks about smthing which started back in past but still goes on so need to be there in present perfect tense which is should also involve plural form which goes wrong in option (c)widou making the sentence awkward or wordy which is option (a) where have tasted it extension makes it wordy
Hey
I am confused for a sentence :
A majority of railway commuters reads or listens to music while travelling....
-Can anyone tell me wats the concept involved for subject verb argument here....i mean wat wil be the correct form with a reason...
As i found read or listen well suited but it is not the case the above sentence is in a correct form already, so to rectify my concept i cun find a convincin reason...
Swati ,
I jus am messsaging you to make you clear of a concept about the question you have asked some time back :
Majority like audience and family etc etc is a Singular .
Thereby it uses a singular verb like reads , listens .
Dun take reads , listens as plural .
Read is plural but reads is singular .
lemme give u an example :
The audience is roaring
The people are roaring .
Got the Funda ??
Another ex :
They go to the park everyday .
He goes to the park everyday .
See here goes is not plural girlie !!
Goes is singular which is in synch with he which is also a singular .....
Get to me back for further queries !!

Huh i am feeling all the choices are wrong .
Since it has no proper reference .
Guys with an answer tell me to what it refers to ?
to chocolate or to the love affair ???
Since all the choces contain it i reject all the choices .
Correct me Winters if am wrong .
@krish_krispy hi there, i remember this rule about modifiers, the modifier should be placed as close as possible to the word/phrase it modifies, in this question 'it' definitely creates a confusion ....but we can (perhaps) safely assume that it here refers to the chocolate. Might be wrong about it ... waiting for the other puys to give some suggestions. regards Jakhar

So in this case i was counting on C nyways and now i think C is the right button .

Hi,
The GMAT OG defines Parallelism as "Constructing a sentence that is parallel in structure depends on making sure that the different elements in hte sentence balance each other; this is a little bit like making sure that the two sides of a mathematical equestion are balanced. To make sure that a sentence is grammatically correct, check to see that phrases, clauses, verbs, and other sentence elements are parallel to each other".
I find this explanation very ambiguous and i am not at all able to figure out how "parallelism" is used in solving SC
. Can anyone please explain.

E is the answer !!!
making indicates a simultaneous action . Therefore out of the last 2 choices . E serves the best !!

Which is a relative pronoun that replaces animals or things. Ej. cat, dog, table. In the sentence "As the price of gasoline rises, which makes..." note that which is not replacing a noun. It would replace "the price of gasoline rises" so it is wrong (because which would be replacing noun+preposition+verb). When this things happen we call it which without antecedent.

B. is so reflective that little of the polar ice melts during the summer; were it not to do so, C. so reflective that little polar ice melts during the summer, or else
D. reflective, so that little of the polar ice melts during the summer, or
E. reflects so that little of the polar ice melts during the summer; if it did

Guys need your insight on following two SC questions from Sets.

Hi,
The answer according to me should be .
Options & use redundancy which can be avoided and as for : the tone changes by using 'carrying as many as' while can also be eliminated.
Please do let me know if i'm correct or wrong.
Thanks,
Kartik
HI All,
I posted the answer for q. 39.
Thanks
Sushant that is all the theory I have of the which without antecedent. Nevertheless I am open to receive new questions / discussions about that.
Antarctica receives more solar radiation than does any other place on Earth, yet the temperatures are so cold and the ice cap is reflective, so that little polar ice melts during the summer; otherwise, the water levels of the oceans would rise 250 feet and engulf most of the world's great cities.
A. is reflective, so that little polar ice melts during the summer; otherwise,
B. is so reflective that little of the polar ice melts during the summer; were it not to do so,
C. so reflective that little polar ice melts during the summer, or else
D. reflective, so that little of the polar ice melts during the summer, or
E. reflects so that little of the polar ice melts during the summer; if it did
B is a good option because is the only that respects the parallelism between (verb+so adj) "are so cold and is so reflective".
