i think the answer is E,as it says"eventual" ,so plain future tense .So A ,Cand E remain. Now i have never heard that people struggle for relinquishing power, so by default struggle for power means sruggle (to retain/obtain).So for obtaining not required. Now we have C and E. I think within cremlin means cremlin is a place or house and something is going on within that. but the cremlin here signifies the closed powerhouse of russia,so inside is a better choice.:)
@IdiotR.... i thought on the same lines..only diff..is c..is the answer..cause....if "kremlin" personifies politicians..then "within Kremlin" sounds good as its a struggle for power among (within) people..not at confident.just my take....may be wrong.with interpreting "within" for "among",,, @sandy_venkat... post the ans..yaar..

I disagree with the use of "inside"... Kremlin can be used to specify the Kremlin complex or as a reference to the government of Russia... In this case, the struggle will not be actually in the fort... It can take place through newspapers, other media etc... Therefore here the reference should be considered to the government and hence within should be used... Does anyone agree with me?

Here's a question... In good years, the patchwork of green fields that surround the San Joaquin Valley town bustles with farm workers, many of them in the area just for the season. my take is b here.... explanation: ...pathwork singular..so verb should be singular..hence narrowing down to b and e.....b sounds obvious..as..x of y..is teh idea..."many of whom"...conveys that...
Looks like not many visiting this thread... Well samar... I had reasoned the same as you... but it turns out that the answer is A!!! The explanation is that "surround" is used to modify "green fields" and not patchwork... while "bustles" modifies "patchwork" ... Also since the end of the sentence is "in the area....", ending the option with "many of them" is also correct. The sentence is from 1000 SC (No. 349) and explanation from ScoreTop...

When oil prices were increased in 1984, officials predicted they would make further increases unnecessary, for at least four years. (A) they would make further increases unnecessary, (B) that it would not be necessary for further rate increases, (C) the implication was that further rate increases would not be necessary, (D) that further rate increases would be made unnecessary, (E) that further rate increases would not be necessary,

Lets go step by step... Choice (A) is not correct for a couple of reasons... First: "predicted" immediately followed by "they" seems incorrect... Second: "they" is ambiguous. Also increases in what?
Choice (B) does not sound correct at all... Sounds very awkward... Not the correct option
Choice (C) predicted followed by "the implication..." doesnt seem correct and seems very wordy
Choice (D) "...would be made unnecessary" doesnt fit with the word "predicted"
Choice (E) is correct according to me since it unambiguously points increases in what.

Ans should be (E)
(A)predicted they....wrong usage (B)it should be 'increase' n not 'increases' (C)way too wordy...also it shud be...predicted the implication to be tht... (D) Out of (D) and (E), (E) is d winner for being "terse" (Please refer my list...)
Heres another one... Since 1986 enrollments of African Americans, American Indians, and Hispanic Americans in fulltime engineering programs in the United States has steadily increased, while the number of other students who enter the field has fallen.
