Only 90s kids would remember New Year Greeting Cards. People would start saving from October itself. Come December, shops would be replete with these Cards. There was a price to it. It ranged from the simple One-page ones to the elaborate 3-5 page ones-which you could tear apart while opening if you didn't know better. Those who couldn't afford the expensive ones would sulk and those who did would show off. Though there were few set templates, it was mostly hand-written, involving Sketch pens and relation-appropriate Shayaris. People with Good handwriting were worth their weight in Gold. There were highly sought after for writing other people's cards. The quality of card you sent to a friend defined the value you put on your friendship. Many romantic affairs flourished through these Cards while some friendships turned sour for the absence of it (though, rebels like me always said that it was a girl's thing and stayed away from it). In those days, you had to send these at least 15-20 days in advance if you had a friend or a relative in a far-off State. Sleuths like us always kept a close eye on any correspondence between Boys and Girls. All in all, it was something to look forward to in the first week of January....................And then, Telecom revolution happened!
