Sahay is a management trainee at an organisation that deals in supplying hardware to customers. Now his boss Mr Subhdeep has been thinking of a plan. A consignment, which was due to a superintendent police who has huge political clout, has not been delivered to him. It had been promised that it would be delivered in 30 days, but so far 45 days have lapsed. Mr Subhdeep is thinking that he would deliver an empty consignment to this client and since it is a company policy that he cannot open the box till somebody from this organisation assists, he would take advantage of this policy. In the meanwhile he would substitute the box with the actual deliverable. Now Mr Sahay finds this unethical, and he asks Subhdeep but he says that everything is fair in war and business. So now what should he do:
a) Leave the company b) Try to bring about a change
@karthi87 i strongly suggest Sahay should try yo bring about a change. Business is meant serving customer ethically. Business leads with lots of trust and efficiency. So Sahay should make his boss understand regarding the negative effects of this unethical practice.Once anyhow if this will get disclose to the superabundant it will force him to take some atrocious step against the company. Its not about saving yourself for this particular instance its all about surviving so instead sahay should try to find the possible reason for the delay and strongly modify the loopholes to ensure this will not arise in future for sure
Hi Puys...PFB a sample case study....try to contribute..
Randy Altschuler and Joe Sigelman had been close friends since their undergrad days in Princeton. Later both of them graduated from Harvard Business School and took up jobs in the financial sector. Sigelman worked for Goldman Sachs and Alschuler worked for The Blackstone Group. In 1999, both came up with the idea of a BPO startup when they realized the difficulties they were facing in their respective jobs. Their organizations were not very well geared up to provide services like making presentations and organizing data. They discussed it among themselves for a long time and finally quit their organizations to start OfficeTiger in 2000. They came to India and set up office in Chennai. The founders and the first set of employees had multiple roles within the company. They did not have any clients lined up. Slowly, they ramped up their operations and took steps to professionalize the company. A more formal organization was created and official committees were established. The company grew quickly. Form revenues of under $1 million in 2000, it grew to a profit making company of revenues over $50 million in four years time. When they started off, there were only a handful of employees but by the end of 2004, there were over 2,500 employees. In addition to Chennai, they had offices all over the world including Kuwait, London and New York. OfficeTiger stressed the importance of getting the right management locally. They needed people who understood the Western business world but they need not be Western managers. Regular training was carried out that also covered the importance of confidentiality, quality and promptness. According to Siglman, there were two major HR challenges that came with rapid growth: Firstly, when they had initially hired people, they were not very particular about how much they were paying as a salary. Competition for the manpower was not high and they were able to pay higher than prevailing salaries but they ended up paying very different salaries for persons hired to do the same job. For example, for the same job two associates could be hired at salaries of Rs.5000 and Rs.8000. Now the problem arose if the performance of both was the same after a year at the job. If the second associate is given a 25% increment, to bring in parity in their salaries, the first associate will have to be given a 100% increment. That will create an imbalance in matching increments to performance. If not done carefully, there was likely to be at least one dissatisfied employee. Another major problem was related to the growth in scale of operations. Someone who is a very good CTO for a 200-man operation need not necessarily be the right man for the job when the organization has grown to 2,500 people. So does he get promoted or is a new man to be recruited and put in as the boss of the initial CTO. Here again there is a possibility of alienating a good performer. Note: In 2006, Alschuler and Sigelman sold OfficeTiger to the publishing giant, R.R.Donnelly Questions: 1. How can Officetiger solve the problem of parity in salaries? 2. What would be the right way to match roles and responsibilities with the changing needs of a growing venture?
Hello.. I dont remember my login details and am trying to reset my password.. but did not get an email with the new password for a long time..is there any other way to upload my documents? any adcvice would help!
1> They should introduce a system by which the hike of wages can be justified(i.e something like appraisal system based on their individual performance). 2> Roles should be matched accordingly. a person who is managing 500 may not be very efficient in managing 2500, But the other side of the coin is , the new person will take hell lot of time to understand the business and apply his brain on it.
So, The guy who z presently managing must be given a chance to continue what he is doing, and in parallel to that, a new person must be recruited to assist the current manager.
After some time, the new guy will learn the business and later at some point of time, if old guy is not in a posn to manage so many people, it can be shared wid the new guy.
Another one found in some forum- The topic was about raising Rs 2,00,000 fund by 1000 student's of St Mark's college for cleanliness programme. There were different options for that. 1. By collecting old newspaper and other persons. 2. By organizing sports competition and allowing other colleges to participate. 3. By providing tutions to other stuents by Senior students of the college. 4. By organizing food festival in which students from the college will put stalls and make dishes 5. By conducting music festival
And we were supposed to choose the most appropriate option.
I guess all the options are good to go.. depending on how you present it.. Would anyone be kind enough to share the thoughts on how to proceed with the group discussions. For eg: do they ask technical questions (in details), and how do you elaborate on any of the above options.. Thanks.
