I have been reading a lot of these posts, and I see that many of you are positively spooked about a sales oriented job, one with a target. But you need to realise that a bank is an industry that runs solely on the money of those people who choose to invest in it. Every single element of the banking sector depends exclusively on the asset it has acquired from individuals and industries alike. As such, the very existence of these industries is on sales, on making people trust the brand enough to put their hard earned money in it, right? So it is very feasible that every single employee, from the lowest tier to the chairman, is involved in some level of sales, albeit the magnitude and the sources might vary in accordance to one's position.
I had a discussion with a retired manager of a central bank, and he told me that in his capability, not only was he overseeing the daily functioning of the branch he was posted in, making sure the ledgers are updated and every single function taken care of, he was also explicitly involved in having customers convert from mere savings account to PPF accounts, Mutual Funds, Insurances and the likes. He says it is an integral part of the job.
So don't fret about having a sales profile attached to your job description. It's not going away, because the very existence of a bank is on sales.
