Hi Friends,
Thank you all for the wishes. I am writing this post for the benefit of all ESE aspirants especially those who do self study.
This year onwards pattern has changed however I feel some things in here might help future aspirants.
1. Do not refer too many textbooks. Only one per subject(except for 1 or 2). This was a mistake I did initially and wasted time. Please dont experiment in here.
2. Try to cover all topics in any subject. Even if you dont cover a particular topic thoroughly have atleast a basic understanding as that will boost your objective score.
3. Do not read too much theory. Once you have basic understanding of the subject start directly with PREVIOUS YEAR QUESTIONS and refer theory only when you have a specific doubt.
4. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Try to solve previous year papers as many times as you can.
5. Assess your performance by giving as many mock tests as you can.
6. One thing I did for subjective preparation was to write question and answer in the notebooks i used to practice. This helped me immensely in revision. Writing questions may seem redundant at first but trust me this works out brilliantly when you have lot to revise and that too quickly. And also this will ensure revising Previous year questions adequately.
For objective I tried to practice in the small space in material and along with that highlighting the formulae wherever applicable. This will have two good consequences.
i) Firstly this will create a habit of using less space in exams which is important for objective part.
ii) Secondly, at the last moment you can revise all the formulae quickly, so that we can have the most important formulae(which have been asked earlier) in our cache memory ;)
7. And above all ensure you PLAN and dedicate ENOUGH TIME everyday. Books I referred:
1. Circuits - Sadiku
2. EMF - Sadiku (I read Ida but it is too big. Read selectively if like the subject. Its a wonderful book).
3. Control Systems - Nise
4. Measurements - Swahney
5. Materials - SP Seth
6. Machines - Bimbhra(both Electrical Machinery and Generalized theory. Left out topics in EM are covered wonderfully in GT)
7. Digital - Anand Kumar
8. Analog - J.B.Gupta
9. Power Systems - Wadhwa, Nagrath and Badriram(Unfortunately had to refer 3 textbooks for different topics. Dont read same topic from more than 1 book)
10. Communications - Singh and Sapre
11. Power Electronics - Bimbhra(for few advanced topics might go for Rashid)
12. Microprocessors - Gaonkar
13. And most IMPORTANTLY Previous Year Question Banks of any coaching institute. I personally found ACE material to be the best as it has more coverage(past 27 years or so).
14. This year since few new topics like Signals and Systems are added. Try covering ECE Previous year questions as well. (For signals and systems one can refer Schaums outlines as the solved problems will help with unknown questions quickly).
As general paper pattern has changed I cannot comment on it. However for it as well PRACTICE and REVISION holds the key.
Hopefully the above helps.
