Essay Topic : Jasmine Revolution And its Global Repercussions
Went well i had a lot of data on it which i wrote i frankly felt 300 words is less
GD: Indian Cinema is not influencing enough social change:- may have been worded differently but that was the gist
was a pretty generic topic but group was cordial i was asked to start speaking first which i thought was an advantage as most people had similar points. over all GD went well was able to add 4-5 more points later on in the discussion
PI:- 3 men all very cordial and cheerful.
p1: tell me something about yourself.
me: answered well told i want to be a fund manager
p1: what is a head and shoulders pattern and what does it signify
me: answered that its 3 consecutive peaks with the middle one being the highest . technical pattern and it signifies bearishness
p1: where would the market go by march end
me: very uncertain will depend on the budget and the policy decisions by the government but global sentiment is good and fund inflow should remain positive.
p1: name 3 stocks which you would buy and why.
me: answered excellently.
p1: what is book value and what does it signify
me: own funds: i.e equity capital+ reserves and surplus upon number of shares outstanding.
if BV is more than market price then usually the share is available at a cheap price . however it would depend on the price at which the assets are recorded
p2: you mention you want to start an hedge fund what would be the size of funds you would like to manage.
me: as large as possible i would never keep in mind an upper limit.
p2: what exactly is a hedge are there any hedges you have carried out as of now.
me: could answer reasonably well but gave only 1 example by which next question was asked
p2: hedge funds have been in the news for wrong reasons lately kindly elaborate.
me: answered that cant paint the whole industry with the same brush then explained about the rajaratnam case gallion fund mentioned other indictments like rajat gupta also mentioned some high profile interogations like loyd blankflein , ajit jain etc but also said that there have been honest hedge funds and that Berkshire Hathaway started as a hedge fund.
p3: you mention godfather as a novel that you have read what are 2 traits of Michael Corleone that you admire and why.
me: i said i admire the powerful dialogues and the silent aura of fear and power that Michael resonates.
p3: in economics you must have studied about economies of scale. tell me 2 companies 1 which has obtained economies of scale. and the second which is on its way to achieving economies of scale which can be from any sector.
me: i mentioned Arcelor mittal as the first example talking a bit about the steel industry. and google as an example for the second saying that a lot of products like google + and youtube havint still acheived critical mass like the search engine to become profitable by themselves.
p2 thank you its been a pleasure taking to you
me thank you sir.
overall interview time 25 mins
i think it went pretty well as most questions were asked on my core area which i was able to answer well

Seniors/Puys!
Now that the second phase is over for all of us...When can we expect the results?
And how many people are shortlisted in the first list?
You can expect the results somewhere around 17th March 2012. This is when the result was out for our batch.
Last year ~220 ppl made through for the Delhi Campus and ~80 ppl for Kolkata in the first list.
rednewparis Saysits better you post it in facebook page, u will get quick response

220 people for Delhi? This means they give buffer calls in the first list? I heard Delhi has about 158 seats??

Yes you can say that the list has some buffer calls. There have been a lot of people every year who have common converts, with one being IIFT and other FMS/IIM A/B/C/L. So the waitlist moves a lot. Last year every person in the Kolkata list made it to the Delhi campus. But this year with FMS exam not being conducted, the situation might change.
here's my GD PI experience ( i've posted it before but i skipped a few questions at that time ) this is the updated one : My IIFT GD/PI/Essay writing Experience chocolateglittermoonshine
