IIFT essay-GDPI preparation thread [2012-14 batch]

can someone plz tell me what was the cut-offs for general category??
I got 44.52.plz somebody clear the doubt.

From what i have heard from different source i think the cut off seems to be 44.9 for general category..

To add to what Shreyash mentioned,

The selection for Exchange program is done well before Trimester 1 results are out that means no selection on basis of Academic Performance.

1. They sure are. The placements are held jointly.
2. Yes
3. Excellent on both counts. Our faculty is something that we take pride in, and the companies that come for placements are testament to that fact)
4. On the website
5. Answered
6. Nopes. An interview is conducted & the selection is made.

as posted by a senior in an earlier post, d waitlist movement is pretty good at IIFT sice most of teh converts make it to other good bschools too, last yr, the last guy in the first waitlist for IIFT-kolkata got in to iift delhi. As the 1st waitlist for both the instis was of 70 studentseach, so it means dere was a waitlist movement of arnd 140 for iift-delhi, and it wud be more for kolkata.

i have got the same problem.

seniors pls reply....

regarding this, only the admission officials can help u. so keep trying to reach them on the phone.

Check this post from last year's IIFT GD-PI exp thread, they discussed about Civil Services after MBA.

Now that the entrance xams are out with the scores its no better time to start your PI preps. Pls don delay anymore!! Here are a few imp PI qns from my end that you will defi need to have the answers for no matter what.(I hope this hasn't been brought up in this thread yet)

Tell me something about yourselves.
Why MBA? Why now?
Why this institute?
Why this specialization?
What is your long and short term goals in life?
Where do you see 5 years down the lane?
Why should we take you?/ What will you contribute to the college?
Who is your role model? Do you think having role models are imp?
Name 3 strengths and weakens (Have atleast 5 in mind)
Your biggest achievement so far and why?
Your biggest challenge to date?
WHy enggi and then MBA?
Why CA/BA/et al and MBA?
Describe an incident that has had a deep impact on you and brought about a significant change in you?
Define success
Your important values and principles
Why gap in edu/job?
Why so low marks?
Hobbies/ Extra curricular achievements
Current news(5 top news, good to have detailed knowledge about one news)
Final year proj(for engineers)

Other than these common questions there are other common ones also like
Define team work, good manager, ambition in life, love,
Also freshers pls be prepared with your acads, atleast refresh the imp topics from your specialization. I would recommend that you take atleast one subj and study it thoroughly say for eg thermodynamics or Digital commu and finish it properly, might help as they can ask for your fav paper in engg/BA/CA etc

For work ex people:
Explain your profile (Please dont lie here and be thorough with what you do, atleast learn now if you dono 😛 )
Biggest challenge in work. How you overcame it?
Your biggest contri to your company?
Why do you want to leave your company so soon/after so many years?!!
WHy should we take you when we have so many with your same profile? (mostly to IT people!! 😞 )
Have you done anything out of the box in your work and that worked/didn't work

This is just an indicative list of questions. PIs can go anyway that interviewer and interviewee wants!!!
Guys please do have proper answers for all these above questions for sure. I would recommend you to even have it written or document it properly so that you can reuse for any interviews.Trust me guys the competition has just begun. Also be prepared for all type of GDs namely
1. General Topics
2. Abstract Topics
3. Case Studies(Various formats)
4. Situation/Picture Analysis
5. Quotes/Lines from famous poems/write ups et al

Some colleges have group tasks or activities too..

Also be really careful about: "Tell me something about yourselves". It can be one qn that you can use it to your advantage.. Depends on how you use it. I would recommend have a 5 minutes and 2 mins version of this qn. This 2 mins should sell you to the interviewer as simple as that.
It is ok to say "I have no idea" (2-3 times) rather than bluffing in interviews esp about grad related subjects

I guess it will have to be a latest certificate. In case you don't have it right now, you should apply for the same as soon as possible. Also call the admission department tomorrow morning to tell them about it.
Can anybody please help me get some link or document from which we could read about 'Inflation in India'.

I wanted to know how it is measured and everything but on Google everything was written in 2007-08...when WPI was used instead of CPI.

I wanted some latest source for this.

Dhanyawad!

Inflation figures in India are still the WPI based inflation rate. Though CPI is a better indicator of the rise of consumer prices, but still WPI is used instead of CPI because -

1) CPI varies a lot due to variation in food prices. This makes it volatile due to the seasonality of crops and inconsistency of monsoon.

2) There is a lag of only 2 weeks before the WPI figures are released. On the other hand, CPI figures are released with a lag of more than 1 month. Since RBI's monetary policies depend on inflation figures, such a lag will make the monetary policy useless.

3) There are 4 CPI indices in India-
->CPI Industrial Workers;
->CPI Urban Non-Manual Employees;
->CPI Agricultural labourers; and
->CPI Rural labour.
There is no unanimity about which CPI index is most appropriate to use.

Could somebody kindly shed more light on what exactly to write about in the essays about the Indian value system and family structure..?

u can throw some light on ur family structure and how it has evolved with time..u cud mention things like how ur family now looks upon u and how u hv taking up a few responsibilities,etc...as far as the Indian value systems are concerned, things like giving respect to elders, dancer bowing down to the stage before/after a performance, shopkeepers worshiping their scales before the start of their day,etc cud be brought to light...but it has also evolved in the sense that present day the women in the family take part in important decisions and make their contributions....this is just a simple outline...u can build on these lines....
