Prof. Ratna Verma, Assistant Professor, School of Development Studies at IIHMR University, Jaipur, is a force to be reckoned with in Social Development. She has over 15 years of experience guiding Rural Development, Research, Training, and Capacity Building Programmes in various capacities. As an expert, she has played crucial roles in policies for the Ministry of Rural Development, GoI, UNDP India, Department of Panchayati Raj, and Civil Society Organizations in India. Associated with Wageningen University and Research, The Netherlands, and The Japan Foundation Asia Centre as a fellow, she is also credited for exemplary research, especially the ‘Early Literacy and Language Pedagogy’ study with Digantar, Jaipur and Leeds University, UK. As a trainer, she has worked with the National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad, Rajasthan Police Academy, and Rajasthan Institute of Public Administration. She brings her diverse experience to our University as she mentors students to become changemakers of tomorrow.

Reema Kachap, Gold Medalist, Class of 2020, MBA Rural Management program, benefited from the initiative as it led to her holistic growth and overall transformation. The alum has started her career with Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society as a Young Professional in Financial Inclusion Domain. It’s a strong career beginning for Reema and a giant step forward for empowerment of tribal students towards professional inclusion.

Rural India is a vast ecosystem. Nearly 70% of the population lives in villages, making Rural India a market of nearly 900 mn consumers. This sheer size makes it an important target segment for marketers, both Indian and multi-national. Besides the private sector, cooperatives, development agencies, and government entities are also deeply involved in understanding this segment from a marketing perspective. 

Rural Marketing is not without its peculiarities and challenges, however. The complexity has only increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The current pandemic is compelling people to stay indoors but for Angika Mishra, it has given her the opportunity to work and learn.
