Is is true that it is unlikely for a commerce fresher without CA/CFA to convert IIM A?

Guys, I need your opinions and suggestions.

I am a general engineering male fresher.

I have got an on-campus placement of 11 lpa in operations domain.


I gave cat this year(quite casually) and got just below 96 pecentile. Secured 98 percentile in IIFT and bombed XAT.

My profile is as follows:

10th : 10 cgpa

12th: 94.6

Graduation(Tier 1 engineering college): 9.3 C.G.P.A


Obviously, I didn't get any old iims call. But i secured an IIFT call

with just below 98 percentile. Today, I converted IIFT Kolkata in the first list. Apart from that I have converted IIM Ranchi, IMTG and some new IIMs this year.


I tried to hold my horses till the time I receive the waitlist number for Delhi but since it may take some time, I decided to post it anyway.

This query is regarding what should I do if I convert IIFT Delhi (I will not be joining IIFTK).Should I join it or go for a retake??


From self-introspection I believe the reasons for my confusion are: 

For joining IIFTD:

1. After seeing that GEM's with high percentiles(99.3+) are not getting a call.

2. CAT being a one day affair and whatif we are not in the best form on D-day.

For not joining IIFTD:

1. The job which I have is quite alluring.

2. As a fresher I am not certain about my specialisation.

3. If I get a good percentile may be my acads favour me.


These two sides are constantly running in my mind. I am not going to post any poll on this and I also believe that at the end of the day its my decision but I would really appreciate the suggestions from people who have already been there and done that.

Hey Guys, I need a piece of advise. I have good acads X - 9.6 CGPA, 12: 98%, Grad: 85%, Background: Commerce. Work ex: 36 months in analytics domain. I planned to give CAT 2019 for first time but ended up scoring a mere 91 %ile due to job pressure and lack of prep. Do I have chances of top B school like IIM-A,B,C, considering my work ex will increase to 4 years after CAT 2020? Would be really grateful for your insights.
