When is the registration date for iim L?
I know some people in this site have made efforts to discourage people from joining this year (due to Covid). I want to personally make a direct plea (straightforward) for people to withdraw. Yes, it is for my own good. But I only want to join this year because I already have too much work ex and I can't wait more. There will be a recession (actually, there already is) and it will take time to recover. Let alone all the jobs backlog there will be of people who graduate this year and next year who may not find jobs. And will be applying directly to same companies & competing with you for limited jobs in 2022. Yes, it is a selfish request. But the argument is not without its own merits. People who have less work ex. can esp. wait one more year and apply. (If you take a screenshot of your selection this year and show it to the interviewer next year, he might even give you sympathy points. And you can also try to score higher in CAT for next year with more practice.)
Next waitlist date ?
A lot of candidates are in a HUGE DILEMMA whether or not to opt for an MBA this year due to the ongoing pandemic.
Here's my attempt to answer this question.
Reasons to do an MBA (I've marked priority as per the avg. middle-class student mentality. Although it's not necessary that it'll apply to everyone)
*Priority 1* - Placements ( At least for most of us)
Positives:
The placements from the top 10 institutes are mostly safe because of the brand and reputation they hold. Looking at the pandemic scene, even with 5 lakh cases in hand, we are doing 'fair' than the lockdown period. It's about time all the companies will adopt to post COVID world and make necessary changes to bring their ops back to normal. And we have 2 vaccines in India already and a handful in other countries, so I think its safe to assume that we may be able to control the spread by early 2021.
Negatives:
Possibly of an extended recession, although slim, but still exists. We may have to work harder than usual to be in the top 50%.
Due to the online classes, our MBA experience might be hindered and we may deem a " lesser" seasoned batch compared to previous ones by the company. So placements may hinder. And our avg. the package will/maybe lesser than usual. We might as well kiss our summer placement stipends goodbye.
*Priority 2*- A change/jump from current engagement.
Positives:
Freshers can very well go ahead and join as the market is down and chances of employment are slim unless you have family business as an option. Although for people who are currently employed, people who are reallllllyyyy saturated with their jobs, like me, will find the MBA option better. If your pay is meager and not getting much of learning as such and already have a significant amount of work ex, then you may consider quitting and joining MBA. And a lot of companies have taken drastic measures like increment cuts, bonus cuts, etc to deal with the losses, so even if you continue to work, your increment in salary/promotion opportunities next year might not be as same as the last year (i meant the salary increase for performance factor slabs will be lower than usual)
Negatives :
If you have a decent to high salary with decent work ex (24-36 months), you may refrain from joining. And also consider your family's financial condition. If you stay in Job during this pandemic, it will guarantee a stable income to support you and your family.
Priority 3 - A postgraduate degree (better late than never)
Positives:
Since the job market is down now, and assuming less increment/promotion due to the losses incurred, this might be the best time to go for education. Since RBI has cut the repo rates, interests on education loans are comparatively less.
For people who attempted CAT and got a good score that they didn't expect and manage to convert good colleges, then you might as well take it up as you may be unsure if you can pull off the same next year as well.
Negatives :
Considering the online classes, the whole MBA experience will be hindered. People who are looking forward to international exchange programs, the chances are 50/50. If you are that person who doesn't want to compromise on the experience, then you may pass the opportunity.
For people who are confident that they can perform well again in CAT this year, then you may pass and try for a better score and college next year.
Priority 4 - Education/ Learning
Positives:
If you genuinely want to learn the economy, business, market, etc, AND that is your only priority, then go for it. It might be the best time as you'll have a lot of case studies and even hands-on experience on strategies/measures/action plans to run the economy/company during a pandemic (probably the first). If this level of proactive learning is implemented by you or the college, this batch may be the ones in demand after the MBA as we'll be the executives who'll have a fair idea in running a business during tough times.
If you are planning on building/starting a start-up, you may use this time.
Negative: There's no such thing as a bad time to learn.
Conclusion :
You are well aware of your situation than anyone else. Please note that everything is a risk and everyone has their own risk appetite. Depending on what is more important to you, make a good analysis from the points above. I haven't given a straight forward answer, but only pointed out the ends of two spectrums so that you can consider almost everything before making a balanced decision.
If I have left out anything, please add them in the comments according to the priority no.s and the respective +ve & -ve.
Hope I helped a little.
Thank you and Godspeed :)
