MICROPRESENTATION TOPICS (MP Group - 3) 1. Governments in developing countries like India have launched several Information and Communication Technology (ICT) projects for poverty alleviation in rural areas. Analyze whether these initiatives can achieve the stated goals, giving specific examples where they have succeeded or failed. What are the impediments to using technology for improving the prosperity levels in rural areas? 2. In Budget 2008, the finance minister announced that over Rs.60,000 crores of farmer loans will be written off. Following that many state governments have also written off loans given to certain sections such as weavers, fishermen, etc. adding burden on the government exchequer. Some critics contend that this has had a direct impact on the inflation of the country. What, according to you, are the consequences of such sops being provided to certain sections of the society? Do you agree with critics that loan write-offs had a direct impact on the inflation of the country considering the inflationary trends in the country post-write off? Give reasons, supported by facts and figures, to support your views. 3. Some analysts feel that in addition to making the game more popular, The Indian Premier League (IPL) has turned cricket into a big business opportunity. Do you agree? Support your views with relevant facts and figures. Is the game of cricket a winner or loser due to this? Why or why not? 4. As of April 2007, there were 106 institutions in India offering technical programs in collaboration with foreign universities and institutions. Of these, only two were approved by the AICTE. What do you think are the pros and cons of foreign direct investment in higher education? What has been the experience in some of the other developing countries in this regard?
