I did my undergrad in India and worked in India for a couple of years at TCS. I moved to the US to do my masters in engineering management at Dartmouth College. I am currently working in Boston in a global marketing company in web analytics and content strategy. Love my work but I want to finish my MBA and move into a role that uses analytics reports rather than preparing them.
I am not exactly a newbie but I was in PG a couple of years back( user name: harini9876, but I have lost my password and the email id that I used back in 2004 when I registered is no longer active )
Nywaz great to be back in PG.:) I will be apping to ISB next year . Will be having totally 2.75 years work ex by September.
I am Niriksha, a post graduate in science and with more then 4 years of work experience oil company & certification organisations. Having worked in a company helps me to relate my work experience with Supply Chain Management , so currently I am pursuing a full time Supply chain management, since during the course of my work I realized I needed management education and also that the SCM will be the next booming sector in India.
Overall, I think this course will help me to prepare me for taking more responsible management positions.:cheerio:
I am Jitendra Lakhwani, I am from Kutch Gujarat, but I live in Bangalore since past 6 years, I did my B.E ( Information Science & Engg.) from VTU.currently working in IBM.
You are planing to do your MBA..I would recommend you to do a full time Supply Chain Management if u do not experience in SCM or if you have any experience (2+) in industry then you can also opt for Executive Supply Chain management (part time).
Increased globalization and competition has made supply chain management (SCM) a very important and critical issue for any company. SCM is all about getting the right things to the right places at the right time. It contributes to business performance by finding out ways to get goods to the customer better, faster and cheaper. The stakeholders of a typical supply chain include supplier, manufacturer, distributor, retailer and customer. Thus, SCM aims at movement of goods and services from one end of this chain to the other through different stages so as to improve the efficiency, productivity and profitability of the entire process. When the customer has direct access to global suppliers, the number of competing vendors in any category is huge. Global markets force companies to maintain competitive prices. Thus, the ability to produce a given product at a lower cost can give any company tremendous competitive advantage irrespective of its geographical location. At the same time, increased volumes in the global market add substantially to the bottomline. SCM is all about achieving higher volumes and service levels without having to raise costs.
Why SCM: A career in SCM could be rewarding for the simple reason that there is a growing demand for qualified and talented SCM Managers and the supply of supply chain managers is much lesser than the demand. The reason is expansion of business in itself much further and farther beyond geographical boundaries. There is an increasing number of players in the Logistics industry to capture the growing market and satisfy the need for getting goods safer and faster across to the consumer. In business, time is money and SCM holds the key.
Career in SCM: As a career option, you could grow up the career ladder in various profiles such as Customer Service Executive / Manager, Supply Chain Consultant / Analyst, Purchasing Manager, Logistics Manager, Transportation Manager, Warehouse Operations Manager, Supply Chain Software Manager, International Logistics Manager till the position of Vice President in SCM.
