It is a MYTH that I-Banks prefer Freshers over Work-Ex but what if you got a batch mate @ a MBA college who has worked in Finance domain for 2-3 years do you think you'll be selected over him???

@ Jamiroquai you mentioned that other than top 3 bschools others offer middle& backoffice profiles, what profiles are offered in sbi caps . if you are offered a good role, after 2-3 years can we move to top firms with front profiles.
pls reply

If I were you I'd focus on getting into an MBA college first before worrying about beating your classmates to IBD roles mate
@joyjitpal Skip both and demolish the CAT. CFA offers minimal CV addition for ibanking roles, and those modelling/fin 'courses' don't add any value at all
@anandkj611 Almost impossible to go from middle/back office to front office

@NRgetic sbi cap offers what profiles

@anandkj611 Not sure TBH, I was pretty deadset on BB so never really explored other options.

@Mad-Head CFA is for portfolio management not investment banking. Anything short of clearing all three levels is a marginal value add to an ibanking CV at best, and even a level 3 doesn't add that much. Time required and benefit obtained make it an unwise investment. As I said, shelve it and aim to crack the CAT and break into a top bschool.

Is it possible to get a role within Private Banking/Relationship Management with a general MBA degree from India, specifically MDI PGP-IM? By the time I start the course I would have had 1 years experience in Global Markets at a bulge bracket in New York and 6 months in Project Management at another bulge bracket bank in London.

How do you pull off a 100hrs work a week ?
I mean that's so impossible for normal guys like me ?
I want to do it too. Advice please ? :)

Don't MBA students at top b-schools in India work 100 hours+ a week?

Yes they do.
But I want to learn how do they do it??
Oh btw I've been only into some 2nd-3rd tier colleges in my life, and will be doing from MBA from such college too ... so work pressure is never so much so as to pull off a 100hrs week work. I hope I am making myself clear I just want to know how can I do it too ? because it seems so impossible to me...I've been in a job of 60hrs a week and I was on the limit of my work capabilty ...So I want to know ---"how do i increase my working capability"---

PS : It is not off the post as this is also an important ammunition, I guess, that one should acquire before going to IBs especially BBs :D

You just have to drink a lot of Red Bull, and look forward to the weekends. You only do these 100 hour weeks for the first few years of your career and you only do this in IBD. Not being rude, but are you aiming for IBD in India from a 2nd tier college? Even most IIM A grads struggle to get into IBD...just a thought.

I know that it is not directly related to IBanking, but most big banks ( including IBanks ) have a very robust Risk Management division. Can anyone shed some light on the career life and path in that division? What are the chances of moving up in the bank via the Risk division?

Maybe at A every now and then 😛 None of the others are THAT bad.

A career in risk is almost as prestigious as a career in Front Office post crisis. The Risk guys are as smart as Front Office guys minus the social skills.
You can move into restructuring or just move up the ladder to become a CRO. Analytical skills developed are transferable into any sort of modelling role.
@ashmole2009 Thanks a lot!! Another question ( one begets another!!) Do you think a MBA+FRM/PRM with strong quantitative/modelling background has a chance of breaking into this career path, or is a Masters in Fin. Engineering a must?

You need to show quantitative aptitude (through completing the FRM/PRM or work experience/undergraduate major) and that you are smart (shown through going to a top business school).
I suppose a solid Masters in FE will show you are smart and have quantitative aptitude.
Can somebody clear my queries:
I want to know of Back Office Jobs at IBD (Investment Banking Division). I will be joining one IBD @ BO and want to know if it is the right step. Also, are there transitions from BO to MO/FO @ IB.I have also heard some alert messages at various websites suggesting to avoid BO jobs @ IB. Moreover, its said that these jobs will never get your career driven in right direction as there is no respect to people working in BO. You always gets treated like a labor as you are not making profit for banks just correcting the books. Is working in BO be consider as long term career. Is it really worth.
Also, does my CFA (I have just CFA 1 and hopefully will complete 2,3 till next year) help me in transiting to FO/MO.
And can I apply to FO/MO to other bank other than my present BO IBD.
SBI Caps is PSU, so the intake there is from SBI PO exam or lateral posting happen from SBI to SBICAP. What is there intake procedure.?
