ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

Hi Guys,
I have got some unusual requests and have come across some very surprising chit chat thats doing rounds ....So lemme clarify some of them if I may :-
1.Some people have requested me to share my essaysà
Guys, Please understand that this is a very unusual request because every person who has made it to ISB must have written his/her essays himself/herself only after lots & lots of soul-searching and hard work with absolute clarity about what each one has to do with one's career/goals and you too are expected to do the same. Moreover, every profile is different(or diverse as it is said) and accordingly their essays are very specific and center around their own profile. Believe me having a look at anybody else's essays is gonna be counter-productive for you because voluntarily or involuntarily you tend to get influenced by their essays and this will create additional problems for you during the i/v if you get a call. Ofcourse , what I would suggest is you should rather have one on one discussions /reviews from ISB alums and this would help you in a better way than what you are asking for which is unfair.
2.Don't try to speculate the number of people who have got admits/are waitlisted r whatever……Becoz all the news that's floating around is rumour and though an R1 admit I myself do NOT have a clear picture about this and will have to wait till the classes start in april. Even people who would be my peers at ISB would tell you the same thing .I understand your anxiety and all those fears and the mental roller-coaster ride that all of you guys are going through becoz hardly until 9 days back I too was like one of you. But I would request you to PLEASE hold your nerves and wait for things to happen because what's destined to happen will happen and there's no stopping it. If you have put in your hard work and dedication which I am sure all of you would have…Please wait for it to materialise…becoz if you lose ur calm with only this …just imagine and ask yourself this question….. would you be able to hold your nerves once inside ISB becoz it's an even more difficult road ahead?
3.And as I had said in an earlier post, don't wait for that call to come, be prepared for your i/v from now. I got a call 9 days before my i/v while my friend who too is an admit got his call just the previous day b4 his actual i/v. I tried to chill out all those 9 days b4 the i/v of course not losing focus on my profile. The point is not to get too desperate and stress yourself.
4.Last you will get into ISB only when you are ready and each one of you can be ready at some point of time provided he/she puts in a lot of hard work and gets a clear picture of what he/she wants to do and has done so far in life. Think on the very basic points and find very concrete answers to the following questions :-
a.What sets you apart from your peers ? Tell this to your friend/peer and see if he believes you or not.
b.What is that you exactly want to do at ISB ?Tell this to an alum and seek his/her feedback.
c.Find an alum who is in the same field/sector as the one you wish/have chosen to pursue and is senior to you and tell him/her about your strategy or course of action or views. Seek their feedback again to get a clearer picture.
ALL THE BEST R2 ASPIRANTS…..God bless you J

@him2asu that long a post....i can only imagine how unusual those request would have been.......congrats on the admit by the way.

HI,

I am a re applicant. The problem I am facing is during my previous application(R2-2011) my essays were not written properly and had no direction in it. It was about domain and industry change. NOw, after 2 years my profile has improved and I have clear ideas about my goal and why MBA answer. And that too it is a logical progression in the same domain and industry.

In the re-app essay do we need to specify how my profile has changed w.r.t. my essays in my previous attempt or just my previous attempt. Because if I try to weave a story around how I have improved with an eye on the essays, I will not be able to show improvements.

Please advise me over how to frame the re-app essay.
Any pointers are deeply appreciated.

TIA

Yes you should mention how your profile has changed over the years... and rewrite all the essays...
@highflyer05 Works well, if he can touch upon your team and leadership skills, and quote specific examples from your work with him.
@swna For other 3 essays answer the questions being asked. But for re-applicant essay you need to talk only about your improvements. Put all the situations in SAR framework:

S: Situation, what was the situation in this project. Was there a crises, a conflict, a challenge, a problem? If so what was it and what was the requirement
A: Action, what were the actions you took? Your exact contribution, describe this in detail as it will become a crucial part of your essays
R: Result/Impact: What was the quantifiable impact of this project. How many Rupee worth of Revenue your project bought in, what was percentage improvement in efficiency or productivity. How much cost in crores or millions did you save in a specified period of time? How many people's lives did you affect and how?

@Pagla.Ghoda Thanks for the prompt reply :)
@highflyer05 Always happy to help aspirants.
@crackster You cannot view the video. I couldnt. just go ahead and submit

Any idea when is the 2014 batch classes going to start ?

@swna well written structured essays with thought put into them in itself will showcase that part of the problem where you felt your essays werent good.. You dont have to mention that
@msatpute I just wanted to have a feel of how many yet have received the offers....

finally submitted my app!!

Puys,

Need your inputs. Under the section - Work Experience, who should be the person to be filled under the parameter 'Name of the person you report to'? Should it be the Resource Manager or the immediate Supervisor? Please revert. Thanks!

In the application, where can I mention the professional certifications such as PMP ? Please advise ASAP as I am unable to figure it out.

Also the application needs the contact details of my immediate supervisor. I have not mentioned him as one of the Recommenders. What will ISB do with these contact details - will they reach out to him ?

A bit last minute, this, but if anyone wants his/her essays to be reviewed, please mail the same to me at aritro.b@gmailer

Guys, I'm yet to receive my AWA and IR score... I'll receive it only after dec 8, 2012. So what do i fill in the AWA score field now? Couldnt submit my application cuz of this..!!

Hi I'm an R2 applicant.

Few questions:
1. Is the time limit for the 90 sec Video essay super strict? Can I get away with 1:41. Unable to make it any shorter.
2. I have taken the GMAT on 15th Oct, and sent my scores to ISB. When asking for the score transcript, do they mean the provisional printout they give at the center, or is it something we need to get from GMAC and upload?
3. Will the mails to the evaluators be sent only after we have submitted the application? And for how long will the link they will recieve be valid? Do they have to fill it at one shot, or can they do it over a few days?

Thanks

@ magnumben

1) Try to speak a little fast or try to cut down 2-3 lines. You are only exceeding the limit by 11 secs. I am sure you can cut it short.
2) Try to upload the original score, which you get online, and not the unofficial report which you get just after your exam. Original score is a 3 page report. Upload only the first page only.
3)Mails to the evaluators are sent as soon as you submit their details ( including the email ids) in the online application form . The evaluators must submit their confidential report before the deadline. Otherwise you wont be able to submit the application.

Are u sure abt your 3rd point, @sidmehta4 ? The deadlines for the evaluators is 5th dec, whereas for the applicants it is this 30th. Please clarify.
