Are the current affairs questions in interviews related to general topics or only specific to Business?

@King_Julian said:No problem - I want to go into the Pharma sector. Radical jump from almost 6.5+ years in IT to something totally new
Hey. I wanted to share with you some info i have on such radical sector changes.
I am also in IT sector, and i had created a few alternative essays for my essay2. I got them proof read by a few people, and I got a common reply- aiming for a radical change is not bad unless you can prove that you have already done something about it OR you have acquired the skills related to that sector..OR atleast you are doing something/have done something that proves you have worked towards your goals and worked towards acquiring the required skills.
In my case, i had mentioned a goal in rural education, and none of my past work ex, or ECs or any activities were related to rural education, and when i received this feed back from friends, it made perfect sense.
So if you can prove in your essay that you have already gained some skills in your desired field, or atleast made considerable efforts to learn about it, then you should b safe. Basically their intent is not to question the 'SECTOR' you want to go into, but 'WHAT' have you done till now to make u reach there. your 'CURRENT SKILL SET' should compliment your goal.
this gyan was shared with me from an alum.
Hope this helps

there has been a document floating around on PG and other forums, which lists types of qs that were asked to ISB i/v candidates. Attaching it again.
ALso, it is really easy to find possible questions online. Just try searching on google, and you will be directed towards various websites which have a long list of ISB questions.
I also advise you to make your friends and family read your essays, and list down the questions they can think of after reading your essays.
Getting general questions like Why MBA, Why now, Why ISB- internet is the best place. but getting profile specific questions is where you will need help from people around you.
hope that helps

In my interview, I was asked my opinion on the latest Supreme Court ruling regarding clinical trials. The news had come just 2 days prior to my interview. What I realised during the interview was that the panel wanted to know MY opinion and wanted to see how vigorously I defend it. They cross-questioned me on my responses. I stuck to my opinion and gave enough reasons for it.
If they ask you any question on current affairs, most probably it will be something that has some relation to you. For example, if you play tennis, they might ask your opinion on current issue between the players and AITA. They want to know your opinion and the basis for it. So you can't just say that I think the players are at fault or that AITA is "unprofessional". It has to backed up with some info and should have a strong logic. Once you present your logic, you will be cross-questioned on it. They will present scenarios and see whether you change your opinion. If you stick to your opinion, you gotta back it up again with some info.
If they ask you something related to your industry, it's good to know some inside info, which you don't find in news papers. In my case I used to get some updates from a Linkedin group, and it helped me immensely in presenting the behind-the-scenes info. I built a strong case for my opinion.
Awareness about your industry cannot be built overnight. But for the latest burning topics, you can track the story using Google News. It also shows a timeline, so you can understand how the story has progressed over the last few days/months. You can also watch debates on TV. They will give you different perspectives to think about. Another tip. Watch DD News. I know!! Sounds like I am recommending snail mail in the era of FB. But it's the only channel that doesn't need to fight for TRPs. I learned about the news I referred to on DD News, when all other channels were busy with just 1 issue.
You can download the latest edition of Frontline magazine (from The Hindu) over here:
@LuckyThirteen Hey there are now six people from who have got calls. Three have already appeared for IV and three more to go...
@King_Julian said:No problem - I want to go into the Pharma sector. Radical jump from almost 6.5+ years in IT to something totally new
I am also aiming to join the Pharma sector. I am working in pharma R&D; since last 3.5 yrs. How radical would you say is the jump? Since you have close to 7 yrs exp in IT, they would require you to present a very strong case for your career shift. These days there is no industry which doesn't have an IT-enabled solution. I myself work in Clinical Data Management. Although my role is more focused on bio than IT. If you tied up all the loose ends regarding your career goals then you should not worry.
I observed that according to last 2 years' placement reports, the incoming class consists of 3% students from Pharma background and after placement 7% go to the Pharma sector. So definitley people from other sectors must be moving into Pharma. Looking at this trend I would not say that it is radical, but it all depends on how you present your career goals and tie it your experience till date.
