@nigger said:IMO The only good thing about your profile is the patent(s) . Only if they are in your name. Otherwise your profile is very average. Candid feedback.
@retrosat said:Agree. That said, I did not seek any opinions; thank you anyway.
Let the dogs bark!!

God Damn! one more week to go. This is frustrating :(
Hey guys, Make sure you say nice things to @nigger and deal with him nicely . Seems like he is the one who has been deprived of love and affection all his life :)
Lots of people have tried to do a lot of math for the weightage but alas with no success. There aint any fixed weightage. Consider this:
A has a GMAT of 780 & let's say a general/popular experience of 5years & B has a GMAT of 640 with a 5 years unique experience...both will have almost equal chances.
ISB or for that sake all B-Schools look at the whole package & then decide. My advice do not get into any math, it just frustrates you more. Some forums do mention that ISB gives a little extra importance to GMAT compared to other schools, but ISB has always denied this in its interactions with students, media, aspirants. I read Mr. Kannan saying in one of the interviews that GMAT score is an indicator of whether you'll survive the rigor of education at ISB. But if you have an outstanding background besides your low/medium GMAT then that also indicates the same.
I hope I didn't confuse you even more than before. :P
Can we all get the conversation back to what this post is all about? Until which date is ISB interviewing candidates? Any idea?

@vbinani said:I know how it feels to be dinged without an interview. Even I share a similar profile as yours and am dinged without an interview. If you are not very desperate on your MBA this year, which you can't help now, I would recommend that you do some extra-currics to stand out next year - may be an NGO experience, or pursue a hobby. Perhaps, you might want to take some local/online courses that align with your future goals. For example, if you wish to pursue strategy consulting in future - take some good online courses on Strategy (I am currently pursuing a few from Coursera - I wish I did some of these courses before applying). In short, your re-applicant essay next year has to be significant to fetch that coveted interview call. Regarding Plan B - you may apply to B Schools in Europe/Singapore - they still have deadlines. Else, take some time off - go to the himalayas - re-introspect and re-energize yourself - come back and go for the kill !!!
There are mainly two stumbling blocks for these fellow applicants.
1. It is a known fact that these profiles have not much international experience. Especially if International experience is defined as "Experience gained by physically working out of India". Now, I am not sure if b-schools know it internally but this fact is common across product companies. How do you atone for this deficiency: Ensure you project your lessons from having worked with diverse cultures. Ensure you announce to the application inspectors that you have a strategic insight into what your company decided and does. Do you understand your company's competition? Do you understand technology evolution et al. agreed that it is difficult to project all you know in these areas in a restricted span. But that is the challenge of the essays and the interview.
2. Contributions @ work cannot be boiled down to some million dollars of tangible impact. This is a direct consequence of that these profiles are not client facing. Especially in the Indian context, most of these companies get a major chunk of operational work done and less of strategic or client facing assignments accomplished. As one of my managers in the past remarked, we are building the Taj Mahal. That is what you project in your applications. There will be more beautiful edifices but what you did and its impact on your company's work is the ultimate 'achievement'. Agreed that numbers have an impact. But I think that is not at the cost of generating numbers out of thin air and then finding them difficult to be justified in the interview. I hope b-schools know and address how they are going to give these profiles an equal advantage for this specific set of profiles.
3. This is not a blockade but a hint for strengthening your app. Working in product companies means some freedom of time, learning and exploration. I think you should also be aware of how you've used those to shape you up.
All the best to everyone out there...
Regards
Rahul
