@aravindbond , @sid28 , @MBA_Target2013 .. Thanks a lot guys for your inputs.. I cant quote you all here.. I will try to bring in some of the points that I have learned over the last couple of days and more...
I agree that 50lakh is not much of a matter. Especially long term POV.. It all balances out with pay we are getting post our MBA. Another thing I should probably mention is that settling abroad is something which I don't look at. Apna Bharat Mahan... I would like to come back to India once I work abroad for a couple of years.
Keeping that in mind does it make sense to do abroad. I mean once I come back the pay package is going to be the usual one. So now it becomes of the exposure which I get. Considering Kelley is not one of the big daddies when it comes to college.. as in Harvard, Stanford, Kellogg.. So about the exposure.. is it worth leaving ISB and going to Kelley instead. Keeping in mind that the job scenario in US 2 years down the line is not something that can be counted on. Plus as an international applicant and with the H1B visa regulations and cost how many companies will be willing to recruit me.
If you think I am biased towards ISB.. that is not true.. I frankly am quite confused. From what I have heard(not sure if this is correct) the placements in ISB have taken a significant hit this year. In fact got to know through one of the current students that the average package.. sabka milake.. it is coming to around 13L.. now that is definitely not a good one.. again.. not sure if this is correct..
Also ISB is a one year course and quite competitive in fact.. If you do happen to fall behind does that one year give you enough time to recover and compete with the rest or is it like that you cant afford any mistakes at all..
@sid28.. I am checking the websites quite a bit.. even talking to few of the current as well as the alums of both the schools. Trying to get all the opinions and see what I can make out of it. Bloomington from what I have heard is a nice place and the profs at Kelley are great.. that is what the students there say. So that ways I think both ISB and Kelley are quite good.
@MBA_Target2013 .. I had my heart set on Kelley.. Didn't really expect an ISB call with my profile.. but now that I did get it.. things are starting to get really confusing and murky. One thing I have realized is in India the respect and familiarity which comes with the ISB name does not really come from Kelley, and that is another thing which is quite making me think..
I must sound like a big time confused one with all this.. The truth is that I am quite confused. Considering the recent dip in ISB placements, it is quite a debatable option and makes me wonder if I should go to Kelley instead..
I wish you had post this earlier, as I would have definitely requested you to get me in touch with some of your Booth MBA friends as I applied there this year, and really wanted to get an admit. But unfortunately, i got dinged
It's not the end of the world. And I have always believed that the application process is a great learning experience - when you are forced to write down your future plans down on paper in an articulate manner - you are forced to think clearly and beyond "I want to be rich, famous, happy and healthy" :-). You learn about yourself and your limitations when you go through a rigorous process.

..
Bloomington is a college town so you'll have a lot of parties/fun and that is the case with most of the college campuses here in US. Personal view, If you are not in one of the top-10 colleges then it doesn't matter which college but should be more concerned about location. Kelly's admit is not that competitive and it is decent ranked. But, it is located in mid-west and doesn't have any/many companies around. I would prefer studying in east/west coast rather than in mid-west. I have seen companies, most of the time, prefer location candidates so that they can be called onsite-interviews and don't need to pay expenses. Other factor, depending on your profile, it depends whether 1/2 year works better for you.
Source: Bloomington is 40mins drive from my place and I have friends who graduated from there.
Hi, I got offer in R2 for Mohali Campus. But I am willing to join Hyderabad campus on account of host of personal reason. My wife is also working in hyderabad.
Does anyone know about the procedure to change the campus? Further, whether any of the R1/R2 admit got Hyderabad campus but interested in Mohali campus?

Hmmm.. that is what I feel too since Kelley is not one of the big ones so was just thinking if it is still worth over ISB.. at the same time.. seeing the current placement scenario at ISB will it be a wise decision to take it and leave Kelley..
coming to time duration.. well 1 year is definitely tempting but I would prefer to look on the long term benefits I gain.. since I would be investing a significant amount and this is probably the last professional degree that I do..

yes i couldnt agree more. It has been a great learning experience, more like a self-exploration journey
@anudale First of Congrats on converting from a waitlist.
Secondly, about the scholarship- usually students are given scholarship at the time of admission it self. It is mentioned in the admit emails that are sent out. Secondly, I feel that waitlisted students will obviously not qualify for the scholarships, or if they were awarded scholarships they would not have been on the wait list in the first place.
With that said, I am sure there are other ISB and third party scholarships that students can apply during their course.
For your questions about remittances, you should definitely get in touch with ISB to be sure you have knowledge about the quickest and safest way to transfer money. Also, I feel the deadline for payment should be mentioned in your admit email and I believe it is 2nd March. But please double check.
Finally if you dont mind my asking which campus did you get? I am trying to see if there is any trend in terms of sending all R1 wait list students to a particular campus or is it random
@KshitijBaldua I understand your dilemma. But to your point about the duration of the MBA- I feel 1year program is more suited to the needs of more experienced (5-7+years) individuals. Since fast track programs give you less time to make the most of "student experience" at various colleges. It might also limit you from leveraging various resources offered to students like professional networks of like minded people. While for more experienced people, it seems a fair assumption that they usually have strong networks even prior to an MBA.
If ISB program was a 2 year course, I think it would have made your choice much easier. I, for one, definitely prefer 2 year courses, but unfortunately beggers are not choosers :(

@sid28: Thanks for the insights around scholarships... feels a little dissapointing that waitlisted candidates shouldn't be considered for scholarships... π
anyway, abt the remittances, I was talking about the tuition fees, etc... Not the non-refundable admission fee of INR 2 lakh which is due 3rd March.... I also wanted to get started on the loans... guess I'll mail adcom directly..
on your question - my campus is HYD... it was my preference too...
@anudale As i said, dont be disppointed you might be elegible for scholarships later once you start the course. i hope you figure out a way to get your finances sorted I have known quite a few R1 waitlisted students to get HYD campus. And rumor has it all R1 waitlist ppl go to HYD and R2 waitlisted go to Mohali. I am R2 waitlist, so just speculating, since I dont have anythin better to do

Even though Kelley might not match up to ISB in terms of rankings, but Kelley, a 2 year program in the US, gives ample opportunities to learn and make the most of everything that an MBA has to offer. You get ample time to think your preferred career field post MBA. In ISB, you have to be sure of what exactly you want, and you work in that direction from day one. It is safe to assume that you basically move up in your current stream only. Please don't expect to shift from say IT to Finance!
Also, for some reason, I have always believed that ISB can never give you the exposure that an MBA from US can.
@sid28Well said! Also, for some reason, I have always believed that ISB can never give you the exposure that an MBA from US can.All the Best!
Well said. The class @ ISB is very homogeneous and very little diversity. Good education and a good brand name too probably but sorely lacking in polishing its students in a western sense.
We at MBA Decoder will be willing to give you a reject feedback for any b-schools, including ISB. So if any of you are planning to re-apply next year, our feedback will be very valuable in making you aware of possible pitfalls in your essays and getting you on the right track early for next year's application cycle.
I will need your essays for ONE b-school, resume and a short profile to get started. You can PM me your request.
@anudale Oh ok that totally throws my trending data off the mark..hahah.. i will try and find something better to do now.
I wish i could help you on your financing/loans situation, but I have no knowledge at all. I hope some one else with knowledge replies to your queries.
sid28 That's totally cool, I am going to mail/speak with adcom over this weekend... I was just hoping to get some quick answers since I am totally swamped with work right now... and I basically need to wrap up my entire life here in the US in the next few weeks!!! My mind is always swirling with to-do lists... :)
anyway, all the best to you for the wait....
good luck with your little trending exercise there!! :P
