@SOUMENKIND said:Hello ppl, I am in a dilemma. I am an architect from IIT KGP and have been offered the Mohali Campus. I also have interview calls from IIM Ahmedabad, Calcutta, & Lucknow. However the IIMs will declare thier final results in mid-april by which time classes would begin at ISB. Please advice as to what would be a good option.
Hey Guys,
I am also in a dilemma here. I have an accept from ISB HYD and Cambridge Judge Business School. My goal is to get in Consulting, preferably with McK/BCG/Bain. However, even though ISB is fairly strong in consulting, most of it is from second rung companies like AT Kearney / Oliver Wyman / Deloitte / IBM etc. Cambridge is also a step below ultra elite MBA programs so both schools are on an equal footing.
Any folks out here who have knowledge into the current year recruiting process?
Hi, I regret the delay in response. I am into Technology Consulting since last 6 years and have a GMAT score of 720. I applied in R2, and as I mentioned a few posts back, got the result on Feb 15th 10:45 PM; I have however declined the offer.
@SOUMENKIND
You are from IIT and in our country, IIT\IIM is the best qualification for you to fetch the highest dowry in the market(JFF, I am strictly against dowry
). On a serious note, IIM A and C are leaders in the Indian market. ISB is definitely very good, but given a choice, I would recommend IIM. I know it is a tough call. Best of luck for that!@rahulmarwah @johnsmith99
Oxford MBA program started around 1965 and was called something different then. In 1996, it finally took the shape of what is now the Said Business School. The thought of studying from a 800 year old university gives me goosebumps. Same goes for Cambridge. My friend is at Cambridge(not in MBA) and his stories about the experience are mind-boggling. The diversity and the learning experience are among the best in the world.
I talked to ISB 2010-2011 passouts and came to know that McK, BCG, Bain take A FEW students from ISB for their Indian operations - they look for spikes in your career - right from school to your end grades in ISB and all that you have accomplished till date. Then you would implement their business practices with an Indian tadka. I was dinged by Oxford and the sole reason I applied to this college was the fact that it is like the birthplace of best-in-class education! I wanted to be part of an atmosphere that has the capability to decide the future of management in the world rather than merely implementing the best practices developed by minds in the US or Europe.
Last, both Said and Judge are reputed names in the UK\Europe\US\Asia regions and no matter how tough the visa restrictions might be, chances of landing a good job are very high. Please decide according to your priorities. It is not just about exposure, but if you are looking to an excellent development experience from a global perspective, learning with and from the best minds in the world, go for Said\Judge(just one notch below LBS or LSE, but very highly reputed).
ISB is wonderful for people looking to spend within 30L and rise quickly up the ladder in the Indian Job Market with a great track record in the last decade especially in the consulting industry.
Best of Luck to everyone!
@johnsmith99 I will ask my friend if he can find out anything about the Cambridge MBA job placement scenario.
HEC Paris marketing program is excellent for folks looking to get into Luxury Marketing Jobs in the Europe. If I did my research correct during the application process, please expect being offered jobs my L'Oreal, Gucci, D&G; and all the brands which make that part of the world the birthplace of luxury.
I have no idea whether not having previous marketing experience might deter your chances. Probably puys with more knowledge on this subject can guide you further.
Even if you folks here pay the initial amount, and later decide to forego it and deposit acceptance fee with some other college, please inform the ISB adcom and make their and W\L guys life easier.
All the best!
I totally understand. This is probably the last professional course you are getting into and need to be sure. I have admits from CMU and Goizueta as of now. Waiting for a few pending results.
Let me add some things more, I hope it makes your job easier than making you more confused.
First, Oxford - naam hi kaafi hain
.. Their MBA program is relatively new and so is ISB's. Both the names are pretty reputed - Oxford Globally and ISB - Asia. Oxford has a rich history of being the best in education history and even with a young program, you can expect a complete transformational experience. Just look up Oxford threads on different forums out there and see the kind of profiles that have made it to Oxford. From an Indian perspective, ISB is gorgeous
. It will get you good jobs in the consulting industry, and if you always have been a star, you might very well land up in McK, BCG and the likes. The only problem I see with ISB is a very large group with limited diversity. I personally believe that given a chance, getting to hear the viewpoints from 100 people of different nationalities will make me the manager I really want to be - respected at a Global enterprise and not just the Indian arm of a global giant.Just imagine yourself 5 years from now. If you see yourself high up in the consulting industry in India, go for ISB. If you see yourself as a global level manager, go for Oxford. You would not be disappointed in either depending on your career choice.
@MBA_Target2013
Thankyou for the advice and good luck to you too :)
@MBA_Target2013 I disagree about ISB's diversity factor. Yes, most of the folks will be Indian but India itself has tons of diversity :)...I have studied in Canada for 2 years and trust me, in a school environment, you only pick up professional/academic diveristy and thoughts. It is not so easy to spend 1.5 yrs. in a hectic course and still pick up cultural diversity. If one talks about career/proffession/academic diversity then ISB has an equal footing as most Euproean B-Schools.

hi
I agree with what you said in your post. The class at ISB is definitely diverse in terms of academic and professional backgrounds. For someone who wants to stay, work and grow in India primarily in the consulting field, ISB is excellent.
For someone who aspires to understand solutions to the same problem from someone in China, other in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Russia, American, Canadian, European perspective, and to become Globe ready - ready to work in any part of the world including India, why not take that if an option is there and finance is not a problem?
I still do agree that to stay and work in India and to learn to solve Indian business problems, ISB is a gorgeous place. It all boils down to what a person wants in the long run.
I do wish to settle in India ultimately, but nor before conquering the world the way I want. I am sure that ISB would not have enabled me to do so, hence my decision. It is a known fact that ISB does not polish its class as globe conquerors, but definitely makes them pretty smart in the Indian market. Why not get the best of both worlds when an option is there?
All the best to everyone here!
Alright then, My profile 6 years of experience in consulting and long term goal to get into strategy consulting. Currently working in a healthcare consulting firm and Gmat(if of any importance) between 700-740.
Firstly, I like to be in a large batch as it challenges us to work harder and isnt networking with talented individuals one of the most important objective during the MBA and I am sure a large batch helps.
About diversity, I dont believe 75% of the class from engineering is necessarily a negative. Not only there are several types of engineering but most importantly engineers develop excellent analytical skills which helps to break down problems in small manageable lots (also known by concepts such as reverse-engineering, inductive/deductive thinking etc in various management books) which is essentially the 'funda' of all consulting. (P.s: I have a B.com degree or a background in commerce yet I have a lot of fun working with engineers so I cant think why this will be any different at ISB).
Now, I budgeted 50k for all applications in R2 so I applied to a top 3 US college ("H") , top 20 US college (offering 100% unsecured loan to internationals and is known for consulting) ("D"), the best school in Canada (since work visa is not a problem in canada) ("X"), ISB and XL-GMP (back up for ISB). The current status, admission offered in "X", ISB and XL-GMP, interview with "D" and a ding from "H" (i know only HBS does a early release so yeah H = HBS).
Hi,
I have 7 years of experience in engineering and am looking at strategy consulting post ISB experience.
My profile: top ranks in B.Tech from Jadavpur University and M.Tech from IIT, GMAT 700, leadership experience with global organization in engineering department.
Can someone comment on the chances of getting into the top 4 consulting firms given my profile? What are the pros and cons for getting into strategy consulting with my profile?
TIA

ISB has always been very good when it comes to placements in the consulting industry. The Big 4 however look for exceptional profile among the ISB class.
You can look up ISB portal to check the last published placement report, or better still, PM some puys from the last year's thread who got admitted to ISB. They can give a more accurate picture.
All the best!
@game4Mba said:@MBA_Target2013Okay, So finally I paid the deposit for ISB today, and I just wanted to share my experience and opinions (100% influenced by my personal bias) in choosing ISB over others. (Not that anyone asked me too, but i hope it helps someone to take the call).
@game4Mba
In my previous posts, I mentioned about constructive discussion on my thoughts for the benefit of folks reading this forum. You do touch upon a few good points, but unfortunately, I find some portions unnecessarily condescending and mere play of words. I gain nothing by asking people to opt out of ISB, and hence a question of mud-slinging does not arise. Pagalguy forums helped me a lot in the application process, and all I intend is to give back. Pardon my poor understanding skills in case I understood the tone and mood differently.
Breaking your post point-wise:
1.) Diversity - I don't doubt ISB's diversity in terms of different backgrounds. I am talking about international diversity. I talked to a lot of ISB alums and Indian alums of various global schools, and hence have complete clarity on this. We Indians are a real smart lot, but it does no harm in studying with the best minds that the world has to offer. I am an engineer with technology consulting background and believe am pretty good at it, making the portion of your post illuminating the engineering fundas in management books void.
2.) Sorry for the ding at HBS. Good decision not to take Rotman, as it is mainly known for finance(I have 5 friends currently in Rotman and 2 friends who are alumns). Between XL and ISB, again, I too would have preferred ISB - congratulations on your decision here.
3.) Talking about the opportunities in India and the moral responsibility - to each his own. As I said, it is a personal perspective. Again, challenges are aplenty in India but before I get into resolving them, I would prefer working with those people who made the standard models for all problems in the first place. I want to learn and understand the global best practices before I come back and settle in India - I have my own ways of fulfilling my social responsibilities and don't think that giving up ISB for US and coming back after 7-8 years in any way dilutes my social sense. Agreed that ISB has great international faculty, but I think an MBA is more about the class and the associated experience.
If someone has on offer and finances to study from an excellent global b-school what is the harm?
4.) In my six years of exp, three have been international stints. I never felt the need to understand or talk about Superbowl or the Ice Hockey leagues. I have had great relations with my clients and in fact my recommendations came from them.
5.) Rest in person at ISB, the game that SRT plays - Seriously? What is the point? Reserve them for your blogs fella.
