1.=> 2.DABC.
2.=> 1.CBDA.

answers are in bold...

1.
A. Most of the behavioral scientists agree that dodging reality, too often, can impede psychological maturity.
B. When you deal with reality in the present, you become wise enough to understand and mature enough a deal with sticky situation in the future.
C. Escapism is acceptable as long as the tendency to run away from reality doesnt
Become a crutch that you cant dispense with
D. Quitting your job when on a difficult project is a classic example.
E. Its always useful to know the difference between burying your head in the sand to escape reality and understanding and dealing with reality.
F. Deliberately trying to displace the recollection of an unpleasant event, or totally avoiding it, is not a permanent solution

BCEADF BC does not go as escapism in C is not specified in B.
BDAFCE BD does not go as D is an example which is given in respect to F. (quitting in D is avoiding it in F)
BDECAF Same BD does not go. B is more general statement.
BAFDCE- BA is a strong link as B is general statement which is made strong by scientists agreement to it ( deal with reality in B and dodging reality in A). Similarly, FD in strong link as as statement stated in A is explained in D with example (or totally avoiding it in B and Quitting your job in D). Which make 4 the answer.

2.
A. And to whom do we owe loyalties?
B. Is it individuals or organizations?
C.Loyalities cannot be bought,they earned.
D. The answer is that we owe loyalities to values.

ABDC 2.CADB 3.CBAD 4.CABD
I think most the guys got this right Still will give explanation ď Š as C is the beginning of the sentence as it gives general idea about loyalties followed by question asking whom and again asking question for whom (i.e either individuals or organization ) followed by D which concluded the para.

Very sorry folks. I had given out the answers on the stipulate day itself but i think some problem with my my internet connected screwed it up. I should have checked. Sorry for being a giant douche.
you will get almost all coaching center's materials in College Street...generally they price them @1.5K-2K...if you can bargain to your full potential, you can get them

do check one thing : whether the books are of last years' or not(though it hardly matters I guess)

And keeping that in mind, if the books are old,ask the bookseller to give greater discount.

I dont think so. Sentence correction part is good but not sufficient. RC's are also good but again for a Rs 900 ( from Flipkart), less value for mney.

Hi Count me in too , I am Subhodeep from Tollygunge,this will be my first attempt in bailing the CAT , I am currently working with TCS for past 1.5 yrs but now I want to go for my dreams of getting the elite call....I will enroll for test series (Have no time for coaching ).....can any one suggest times will be better or career launcher....and when the test series starts...cheers

AIMCATS(TIME)---> starts last week of may
CL - > no idea

AIMCATS are tougher than original CAT , so I think its not so good IMHO

You can take a look at TestFunda. Everyone recommends them.

cl test series registration has started. Tests start 18th may. Gear up.

I attended BYJU's classes today.Its in Elgin Road.There were only a handful of students attending the classes in Kolkata,maybe around 20.Out of them around 10 are regular students and the other 10 went in for the demo classes.I was really pissed off with the sound system,was hardly able to get what was taught.Since the teaching is through videoconferencing,these type of glitches can really make life difficult.I will attend another class next Sunday to finally decide whether to join or not.If the sound system works fine I would probably join it. A few important points I want to make here is :

1.The teaching method and the content taught in class in fantastic.No other coaching institute can teach you such fantastic methods.At the same time I don't think beginners in CAT preparation would be really benifited by these methods,most of the people attending the classes were guys with work ex.Byju Sir takes for granted that the students know the basics,so I think it would be more beneficial for guys who has had a take at CAT before.

2.It costs 15,000.You can pay it in two installments.It includes study materials and 20 unproctored mock tests,and around 160 hours of classes.
No discounts whatsover ,even for people who have cracked CAT before.

3.Classes happens once a week for around 4 hours each,and all classes are independent of each other,so if you miss one class you won't lose the flow.

4.You have to keep your concentration very high in the class,otherwise if you miss something you will lose the flow,and since its not one to one interaction,you cannot stop the teacher and ask questions.There is a helpline number where you can call if you have any doubt regarding anything taught in class.

Its best if you can take a demo class and get a feel of it by yourself and decide whether the pedagogy suits you.

Hope it helps.

just a question to all here : can't we make this thread a bit more active in terms of preparation? I saw Shouvik posted few questions couple of weeks back & then again all gone. Even people like Tanveer sir is also active here & can help us if we are active. May be I will not go for CAT next time but at least if you are interested, then I can share or put up some questions on daily basis.

Reply whether I should go for it or you have any other suggestion.

Hi Tamal,
I request you to start our preparation. I am weak in QA. can you help me with that in someway?

better to have a day so people can have their opinion.

& regarding QA, the only thing I did is practice & practice. The more you face different types of questions, the better your thinking process goes. The quant thread helped me a lot in this regard.

Subscribing....

I am posting 5 questions today to let the things get going. All these are quant problems.

1. How many four-digit odd integers, greater than 3009 can be formed with the digits 0, 2, 3, 5 and 7, if repetition of digits is not allowed?
(1) 36 (2) 32 (3) 72 (4) 54 (5) 120

2. What is the digit at the hundredths place of the number N = 45^36 ?
(1) 1 (2) 0 (3) 6 (4) 5 (5) 7

3. The sum of coefficients of the terms which do not contain odd powers of 'x' in the expansion of (x + y)^100 + (x - y)^100 is
(1) 2^99 (2) 2^100 (3) (2^100 - 2) (4) (2^100 - 1)/2 (5) 0

4. After three successive changes (two increases and one decrease, not necessarily in that particular order), the price of a watch became (154/125)
of its initial price. If the percentage changes are P, 2P and 4P respectively, then what is the value of 4P?
(1) 20 (2) 8 (3) 200 (4) 40 (5) Either (1) or (4)

5. ABC is an equilateral triangle and D is a point on the side BC. A perpendicular DE is drawn from D on AC and another perpendicular EF is drawn from E on BC. The length of the side BC is 6 cm and the
ratio of the lengths of BD to BC is 1 : 3. Find the area (in square cm) of triangle EFC.
(1) root3 (2) root3/2 (3) root3/4 (4) root2 (5) 3*root3/2

1. my take 36

3 _ _ 5/7 -> 3c2*2 *2=12

5 _ _ 3/7 -> 3c2*2*2=12

7 _ _ 5/3 -> 3c2*2*2=12 =36

==================================================

2. 45^36 mod 100

100= 25*4

45^36 mod 25= 20^36 mod 25 = 0

45^36 mod 4 = 1

=> remainder is of the form 25k = 4p+1 =>remainder = 25

=> hundreds digit = 2. options not matching :banghead:

===============================================
my take 2^100

3.Expanding binomiallly ;

(100c0+ 100c2+100c4+....100c100)*2 =2* 2^(100-1) = 2^100 =answer

=================================================

4.my take 40

going by options:-

If I take 4p=40 => p=10

let increases be +10 +40and decrease -20

=> C.P(11/10 * 7/5* 4/5 )= C.P*154/100

Hence option 4.
