Life at MDI

A blog about a CSFC player...

jo is here!!!: Part 2 : Lets start from defence

so this time it all started on 20th June 2012 ........

and induction week duration was from 21st to 26th......

with a new director in place things have changed a bit( read giga bytes )this year......
this time no more hectic schedule, no more late night sessions and no more earlyyyy morning sessions.....

seniors say you are missing a lot... and even i agree on this(may be we can have the 'hectic' schedule for 1-2 days).... but both of us have no role to play in this ..... so we are a little (un)lucky this time :)

faculty seem to be good, lets see how it goes when classes will start :)....
mess food is edible ( for ur info i am a first time hosteler)......and yes a very green and beautiful campus πŸ˜ƒ

ps : hoping i will continue posting in this thread πŸ˜‰

The week long induction for batch of 2012 - 2014 ended today :)
And needless to say it was fun, it was an experience, something I am sure I will cherish in days to come. Hectic it was.
The induction process has changed compared to what it was all these days in MDI. There was no yoga or we did not had to get up at 4 in the morning unlike our seniors. We missed it to say the least, as these are traditions of an institute, but anyways whatever happens, happens for good ;)

At first, I would like to thanks our senior batch PG11 for their tremendous efforts in all fronts. Right from the point of time I arrived at campus, allocation of hostel, Prayas the retail shop from where I bought the stationery for daily use, to class attendance, campus conduct, Seniors were everywhere, making our lives really easy :). Nehi to pakka ho jata mera yaha, afterall I am back to college after 5 long years :sneaky:. You guys simply rock .

Experience of induction was something really really special. It started with the all eminent professors and Deans of all heads addressing the batch. We had a complete taste of b school during the induction process, which included accounting class, case studies (and their preparation the night before), Lotus session πŸ˜ƒ , heal by clapping (yeah you read it right, you can keep all your diseases away just by clapping and we Mandevians know how ), lots of guest lectures, business games, outbound and what not. Would like to mention about guest lectures a bit more. My batch had 4 guest lectures in 6 days, which included HR head of a top notch MNC financial institute, an army general, MD of a government organisation who almost started his company, and a session by top boss of CII. All four from pretty different fields of industry, revealing their experience, definition of manager and management in their own language and from their own experience.

And off course presentations of all clubs by seniors for inducting us, their constant thrive to make us acquainted with management and MDI life protocols. They were hard on us at times, but it had a cause as well. My role number was also noted once :nono: , but I did not talk

Had our welcome dinner today hosted by MDI Director and it was awesome as well. Some nice performances again by PG 11 seniors and also the current batch. The complete scene was awesome. I would cherish these moments.

Class starts tomorrow, the most serious business. We are also given some big fat books by the library :sneaky: and after almost 5 years of work ex, these things really look scary.

Also am already in a plan to build a music band here. Already got in touch with a friend who plays guitar from my batch and he is bringing his guitar and other stuff this weekend from home . I need to get hold of the drum set in campus . Hope we can make it big.

Really excited to see how the rest of the days unfold in MDI

Will keep updating and till then

Some more updates
Last night we had our welcome party thrown by seniors.
Will not mention more details other than that but Seniors here at MDI rocks
Had an awesome time and all arranged by seniors.

Kudos to batch 2011 - 2013

So I am back guys...just when everyone might have been thinking MDI people have disappeared...

Feels great to post here after a long while. Life is really super in MDI. It is more that what I could imagine before coming here. Though I am just 3 weeks old in the Campus..but all I can say is life is busier than hell. I consider myself lucky enough, if I get a chance to hit the bed before 4am anyday. But the learning makes it all worth.

Lectures, Assignments, Case Studies, Surprise Quizzes, Club Selections, Live Projects keeps us occupied for most of the time...But life doesn't stop here even for a single minute.

Last weekend we had Rangmanch(an amazing party thrown for Seniors by the Junior batch) and its one of the age old yet one of most amazing traditions at MDI. All I can say that, I have never been to a party better than this one in my life :mg:

There is something for everyone here, no matter how introvert or extrovert a person is.

For the movie enthusiasts those who wished to revise the Batman series before watching the Dark Knight Rises, last night there was screening of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight back to back :)

PS: And with the blink of eye..we are about to face our first mid terms.
PSS: Will keep this thread alive..

A month @ this place and have loads to tell, of the amazing induction week and the even more amazing freshers and the colorful 'rang'manch but what beats everything else is the Tughlaq-like character of MDI, the Director Mukul Gupta. More about him coming very, very soon.

To the seniors, love you muahhhhhh. Thanx for everything, we mean it.

To Mukul Gupta, you dunno you are messing with PG12, beware oldie :-)

It has been almost 2 months since the journey at MDI ended for the batch of 2011-2013 and we are all still nostalgic about it. As for me, I felt I just couldn't leave this thread without the mention of two most important and rewarding experiences at MDI.

1) Prof. Sanjay Bakshi : For those who don't know him, he teaches Behavioral Finance and Business Valuation at MDI. Unlike most academicians in India who take to teaching without any experience, he has been one of India's most successful investors. I am still amazed at how many people in the investing community know and admire him but unfortunately most of the B school aspirants don't know him. There is no other person whose teachings have made such a great influence on me. He completely changes your attitude towards investing and life. Here is the link to his blog, it's a great read.

Fundoo Professor

2) Unnati : Unnati is India's first and largest student run mutual fund. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the club and a lot of what I achieved at MDI was because of the learning that I had Unnati. Unnati gives you the opportunity to actually apply what you have learned in classes and books, to the real hard world of investing. Knowing about theories and ideas is all good but actually investing your and other's money on the idea, requires firm conviction and that is something Unnati taught me.

MDI PGPM 2011-2013

It has been 12 days at MDI for me. Let me share my experience with all puys.

17th June : The day I came to the campus. We were welcomed very well by the H&M; (Hostel n Mess Committee), must say they were really nice. We checked in to our rooms. The campus is awesome with all kind of facilities one can imagine. Heard the food is good, but found it amazing, way better than what I expected. First 2 days were fun as the induction week was scheduled to start from 19th. Enjoyed alot in the campus, made new friends, met people personally whom I knew only through their PG ids. But finally got a taste of what we are up for on 18th evening when we got our induction schedule. We had classes starting from 8:30 am in the morning to 8:30 or 9:30 pm in the night with gaps only for Lunch. The classes were followed by assignments, pre-study before classes, etc. Was sleeping for hardly 3-4 hrs during the induction week. But somehow I am enjoying this busy schedule as there is so much to learn. Understood that MBA is as hectic as one wants to make it. If you wish you can just attend classes, finish your assignments and lay back in your room and sleep for 7-8 hrs but who wants to sleep when you've so much to do. Vollleyball, Football, Cricket, Basketball, TT, Gym, New friends, Adda at Sharmaji, so many things to explore, who wants to sleep.

The Student Council helped us with many things, teaching us the MDI culture, the way we should move forward in the next 2 yrs and make the most out of it. We got to hear to many eminent personalities during our induction week starting from the MD of Scheider Electric Mr. Anil Chaudhary to Ambassador of Israel to India Mr. Ushpiz, from Pro-Vice Chancellor of IGNOU Prof. M.M.Pant to President of Fortis Healthcare Mr. Daljit Singh among many others. The Induction week ended with Welcome dinner by the Director Dr. Mukul Gupta. It was fun-filled with so many dancing and singing performances by seniors and our batch. Never knew 99 percentiles can be so good at singing and dancing. For once we felt that this year Anu Malik was also there as a part of Interview Panel.

Will be coming back again with furthur updates πŸ˜ƒ

Faadu welcome for PG 13 batch. Amazing seniors! Proud of the ManDevIan culture πŸ‘ πŸ˜ƒ

So back I'm, with the latest update. Last night was hell of a night, danced like crazy for 4hrs non-stop. Never had such an experience in my whole life. I feel short of words to explain how the Freshers party was. And not just the party, the way it was thrown to us was even better. Will keep it a suspense, which you will come to know yourself when you're at MDI. Got a taste what life at B-school is all about - work hard and party harder. Its surely gonna be a great experience in the coming 2yrs. Thanks to our seniors. PG 12-14 rocks, you people are just amazing. Proud to be a Mandevian πŸ˜ƒ

Along with the party part, would like to add that Sports at MDI is just amazing. Not just sports, the other activities, student driven clubs, etc. Was just fascinated how brilliantly it's done over here.
Well and about studies, just a week into the lectures. Seriously adopting now to the B School culture, trying to manage everything possible in limited time. πŸ˜ƒ

Congrats @intelligio1 saar πŸ‘ πŸ‘

And finally the first exams end, midterms that is!

Never thought I'll take midterms seriously.

Completely different than all that I had before. I have never been part of continuous evaluation before.
You just have test quizzes day after day. No break! But that's how it is and it's fun actually.

Mid-terms ended this Monday but got time to update the post only now i.e. on Wednesday 2 am.

The rigor is unimaginable. Thankfully, we get time to eat and not to forget some time to sleep as well. Life is hectic but fun, it is a completely new feeling to get shortlisted for the next round of one of your dream clubs and then cribbing about the fact that you can't give the task your 100% because of Quizzes, Assignments, Ppts submissions, Case studies, Surprise Tests, Project meetings, Competitions and what not. The feeling of completing the tasks exactly at 23:59 somehow (when the deadline is 00:00 hours) and then taking a sigh of relief for 5mins, only to take up a 18-page case study for next 2-3 hrs is amazing pp .

Next up is a great competition on campus which is all about dreams. Thinking of a dream but finding it difficult to get one kyuki sone hi nahi milta aajkal toh sapne kahan se ayenge lookround . But with a prize money of 1.5 lakhs at stake, day dreaming is definitely worth it. Then comes KOK and CKK, a week full of fun and thrill. Sports, Branding, Cheerleading, Teamwork, Promotion, Motivation, Goal Setting and what not. The next week is gonna be fun. Will be back with the updates πŸ˜ƒ

It's been almost 2 months and life is good so far πŸ˜ƒ .People here work 15 hrs a day and there is just so much fun at times. Crazy projects, crazy parties, crazy clubs.. One experience not an engineering college can give you. After a while u forget that you want to sleep at all. So much to learn, so many friends to hang out with, much better than the boring corporate life. The amount of creativity some people have sometimes leaves you thinking.

KOK started today. For those who don't know what is KOK - it is a intra-1st yr Sports competition. We, the Bah!zigans from Section-B started off with a flier winning the Volleyball game by a huge huge margin. The environment is great, everyone cheering their teams, thinking of new ideas to brand their sections. So much of fun, getting to know people better. For one moment you forget that you're studying in a B-school. KOK is gonna run for next 10 days and will host Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Tennis, Table-Tennis, Snooker, Carrom, Chess, LAN Gaming and what not. Exciting week ahead πŸ˜ƒ

Played a real Basketball game for the first time in my life. It was exciting. My prep and thus the performance wasn't up to the mark. We lost the game but the best part was the team spirit, we all gave it all. Bah!Zingans played to their 100%. Basketball isn't our forte but still our class is always there to support us. Realizing the importance of playing sports now and will be surely taking up sports more seriously now. Its a really enjoyable week. Tomorrow is Independence Day and we are all set for the celebrations and yes tomorrow we have Badminton and Volleyball matches which is our strength. Hoping for a great day ahead πŸ˜ƒ

Attended an interactive session by MDI Alums working in Deloitte. Was a great session. Enjoyed solving the Guesstimates and the Pizzas thereafter. Love you Alums πŸ˜ƒ Meanwhile praying to the Rain God to stop the rain, so that Bah!Zingans can display their proficiency in Volleyball.
