Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management)

While reading all these posts,i just had a thought, its has been around 3 weeks we r in GIM,but it feels as if we always belonged here..........Jaggu and casa seems to b the places where u grew as a child............and assignments seems as if u were borned to do them.......

Very well compiled.... Hope outsiders like me are allowed to post here 😃 Have fun!!!

Hello every1..!!

i see that this thread has been kept quite active by akshay..jha sahab.. nitiksh..rahul bhai..!! gr8 job guys..thought i should also contribute a little..

wat else can i say.. sab kuch to keh diya hai in sab ne.. life at GIM has been described so beautifully.. experiences.. 1st day..wat not..!! so i thought i wld say something abt the 1 thing that atleast i have personally experienced the most..

"PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT"

lemme be the first one to say that before the FRESHERS PARTY.. i would definately rate myslf as the 1 most ragged.. i mean i can think of atleast 8 instances where seniors just took my case.. i was told by some senior that every1 thinks i have an attitude problem..i was linked up with a few people..(really.. more than 1) rumours spread.. some TALL girls think they r some queen or something.. kiss my a** (n some other reasom which i m not putting here..!! 😲

again.. lemme clear all the doubts here.. i really didnt have a problem with any1.. till it was meant to be in gud fun i enjoyed it myself.. sometime things started getting overboard but nothing went out of hands..

some people mite read this and say that i probably didnt wat all happened.. but now that i think about it... i really feel it helped me get over that initial barriers and i m glad to know all the seniors.. i was constatnly told by 1 of ur batchmates only that u people are really nice and i would now surely agree to it...!! 😉

i really missed my home n friends back in delhi in the iniial days but now with the schedule being so hectic.. my mom calls n asks whether i dont even get 2 min to talk to her..!! i almost feel like i m simply addicted to this place already..i had come to goa with my friends last year in january and had spend the best time of my life here..but never thought that could be matched or even exceeded.. well. i guess i was wrong..!!

with all the gr8 friends i have made at this place..(lemme not start naming them.. the night wont be enuf..)i m really enjoying it out here.. assingments dont bother us that much any more.. almost got used to them now..i think i have siad enuf n i should satrt studying ECO now as i have no idea wat all has been done in our class till now..

TNX EVERY 1..!!

Bhai dnt remind me these numbers,i m trying hard to forget them............

hi,

it is really gr8 that Parulekar has replaced Sarita and has taken over as GIM Alumni association's new Fac Co-ord.

For the sub-juniors, a few hang-out joints where u can enjoy hookah, beer, and pool:
1) Kamaki, just before Tito's.
2) Baga beach, just outside Britto's
3) Club City at Calungute

For my junior batch, a few beaches where u MUST go:
1) Little Arambol, take a right after u have reached Arambol....and take a walk for 15 to 20 min....u would have to walk through rocks here and there! but then, u always hunt unexplored beaches after a lot of such amazing walks!!
2) Tiracol fort. Cross the river and go all the way to the fort. And climb down the cliff to get a close-up of the sea kissing the rocks.
3) Water sports at Candolim. It is dead cheap here.

(but keep this adventute post monsoon)

hope u guys hunt down at least 5 beaches which we haven't even heard of!!

smiles,

Tapan.

Wow Wow Wow...........Awesome post Niks(As we all call Nitiksh).
As iterated a thousand times before, this place actually makes you realize that you can do so much in 24 hrs that you would be amazed on your own abilities(This place superheroes out of ordinary people). It's like you don't stretch time, you stretch yourself.
Coming to think of it.........classes,then catching up on friends, sometimes interacting with the seniors (I interacted with quite a lot......infact I overdid my mimic act so much that the seniors got tired of seeing me again and again (hee hee),but this place is so friendly and congenial.......it brought out the OverActor in me!).
What with the MidSummer's Night!Tons of performances......then came the big night......Freshers!Tough job asking out a senior....imagine the level of anxiety......
1.Asking out a girl
2.That too a senior......
But then luck had something in store for me......imagine getting a date at the last moment.....went to NH-17(If you like North Indian food, then I suppose Nh-17 is a pretty good place).....And then........BUTTER LOUNGE!!Rocking place........
Kudos to RAZZMATAZZ Team for fixing up the event..........

Being a pathetic writer,I don't know how to put my feelings to paper(Ahem.....Web)........So let me sum it up.......
And as I am about to write something......an IP popup declares "CS on.............."
Missed my train of thought......regained.....

PEHLE CHAAHAT THI LAMBI NEEND SONE KI...
AB HASRAT HAI DOSTON K SAATH JAGNE KI........
PEHLE AADAT THI KAAM SE BHAAGNE KI........
AB AADAT HAI PROJECTS KARNE KI......
YEHI TO HAI MOHABBAT GIM KI......
I am now a mini-poet too.......

Two years of scanning RCs like a man possessed had left me with a very unique ability to decipher the sentence with just a few initial words. The message on the XLRI site read, Congratulations.....and that was enough. My one and only call of the season, that from GIM, had been converted.
A dream, had come true. Vodafone put my predicament very succinctly in one of their ads which said, Tenzingggg...Goas Onnnn.
Days later, I and my cousin motorcycled 700 kms down to Goa from Mumbai to hand over the first draft of 35000 rupees. The ride was a motorcycle diaries in itself and changed me as a person to say the least.
The next three months were a blur of meeting friends and shopping for gadgets and MBA attires at the end of which i pretty much cleaned out my fathers credit card.
16th June 2008, I boarded the Konkan Kanya Express along with my dad and landed up at Karmali. Next we put up at Hotel Seema in Ribandar. Hotel Seema was swarming with prim GIM kids and their parents. A month on, I often find it hard to believe that its these very kids who were so prim with their parents around are the ones who zoom off to Fidalgos at the ungodliest of hours!!
On the Morning of 17th I walked into GIM and selected the room OT8A. Being from Mumbai, where a obscene premium is paid for everything facing any kind of water, I instantly fell for this cosy little corner room. Being a Commerce Postgrad, a very rare commodity in the 2008 batch, I was sure to lodged with an engineer, but never had imagined that he would be a wizened 29 year old former Government Officer who had left one of the cushiest jobs one can imagine in this country to be at GIM. On being asked why did you do that....Ask the same on my 60th birthday is his enigmatic answer!
Gradually life began in first gear like a rusty old Bajaj Chetak. We were divided in groups and asked to solve a business problem through a role play. Soon all of got a mild taste of what lied ahead. ENDLESS DISCUSSIONS!!! Fortunately, I had found a great group and we produced work that fetched us a bar of chocolate, the wrapper of which has found a place of pride on my certificate file. Orientation sessions by appointed faculty advisors, who gave us a tour of the campus as well as advice ranging from calculation of CQPI to avoiding sea shores during monsoons.
We had good Dr Fatima de Sa advising us on hygiene and basic health precautions. The entire class exploded in raucous applause when she informed us that consumption of alcohol and tobacco products is somewhat harmful. Later on we had an orientation to B School session by Prof Ranjini Swamy who showed us among many things that it took courage of the highest order to stand up to your own people.
After this the action shifted to the OT from admin block for senior intro sessions. I gave my entire intro in chaste Hindi and even translated GIM and PGP in Hindi. I was asked to sing a Punjabi song, upon whose completion I felt myself being bear hugged by many hefty Punjabis who were then passing me on like a lightweight sack of flour for further huggings...all amid ear splitting applause...nothing if not exhilarating!!!

Days later we PGP1s had a party in Genes which eventually spilled onto the quad. Singing and dancing, drenched to the bone in front of the Girls hostel.....but I had no inkling that this would be one of the first in a long line of things that I would do for the first time in my life....be it group meeting at 2 am....Fidalgos at 3 am....watching Movies at 4 am..or just using the ATM for that matter. (I got no work ex and my father played that role before!!!)
Gradually the Bajaj Chetak is metamorphosing into an accelerating Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi. Case studies, Group projects, PPTs, assignments keep piling up. You always play catch up. And the moment you feel you have caught up, you discover a major assignment snuggled obscurely somewhere in your to-do list.
And when you think you cant take it any longer.....RazzMatazz steps in. You let your hair down at the freshers, bond big time and refresh yourself for the battle ahead.
So that is how life has been. A flurry of work, a blizzard of slog.....punctuated by shamelessly last TP in the salubrious Mandovi breeze on the free ferry. So I often feel I am trapped inside a pretty picture printed on the GIM Prospectus, any moment I will wake up on my bed in Mumbai. But next minute a 10 member group assignment comes crashing into my lap and all illusions dissolve into hard reality.

@ Jha bhai.. amazing post man... keep the thread rocking

@ Tapan.. There are around 22 PGP2s in OTFF out of the capacity of 55 people.. so a good 40%.. But then GIM is your own.. From OT to HT to Admin ( not LH this year, thanks to the number of girls in PGP1 batch)...Why OTFF only..!!! :-o

ok....so after being a silence reader for some time....its my time to contribute to this lively thread....

A Flashback on past 3 weeks at GIM (its not Gym, its GIM, Mind u !!!) : reached here on 18th june and tranquility of goa touched me almost instantly...roads here are of good quality and (more importantly) without much traffic( Thats a jaanat for a mumbaite !!!)...got the taste of culture @ GIM when i met our senior dinesh (or dinu bhaiya ) ...he and other seniors were pretty helpful and helped us to settle down here quite quickly...Had heard a lot about OT(Men's hostel) b4 coming here and belive me, its a place to be @ GIM...It seemed whole ribandar (whole panaji may be) knew abt no. of girls in our batch many days b4 we came here i really cant forget that nearby shopkeeper's dialogue on the very second day of my stay here : " PGP1 ? U Have 55 gilrs in ur batch rt ? "....the reagular class sessions started after 3-4 days of orientation and it felt like : THE GAME IS ON !!!!!... one thing i realised very quickly was that time management is of utmost importance here ( in any B-School for that matter ) ....if u can manage ur time effectively... and can manage right mixture of fun and studies, life is set here !! soon, bunch of assignments and presentations started and i statred getting the feel of wht really group work is all about....
had a lovely mid summer nite where PGP1s exhibited their (exceptional) talents....fortunatly, i also got a chace to sing a faviourite kishore kuamr oldie at 2 :45 am The really good thing was almost all seniors set throughout Mid summers patiently (without throwing eggs and tamatars )..then came the freshers party...it was real fun and most of us came back when new day had already begun( read 6 am )...

to sum up, its been a great experience till nw and i am sure next 2 yrs will add lots of value to me...avg sleeping hr of 4-5 hrs is vey common here and late night tea at jaggus ( not me, the shop owner's name is jaggu ) keep me awake..GIM ROCKS !!!!!!

MBA is all about managing time. You need to meet those deadlines, submit assignments blah blah but also need to make friends, hang out , figure out the latest gossip ( or maybe start a new one :2gunfire::argue:)

Initially a lot of people thought our campus was small but now i have many juniors telling that this is the best part ! A small but complete campus !

This week has been quiet happening for the Marketing guys of our batch... 2 cases per day on an average to solve.. some 3-4 reading materials.. Some CONB exercise to be done by visiting various stores in Panjim (It was raining quiet heavily on that day).. and if it was CONB, MI and Retail next day.. there definately were some outliers in the upper side of the data.. which caused the mean deviate and the curve became highly skewed...

Sorry for the use of Statistics language.. but cant help as I already had a DA test and tried to prepare well for it.. And these are the after-effects of the preparation...

Well the events by various clubs have picked up pace now.. HRiday yesterday hosted the business quiz and our Snape did well to get the 1st prize along with his mate......

SOFIA is organising ET Quiz everyday for all ET addicts to earn some good bucks... SOFIA is also organizing FAM classes for the Juniors to get there basics on Accounting firm...

Ribandar Talks today is hosting Mr. Hiru Bijlani for the talk... The PR cell of GIM also hosted a event "Brand Ambassdor" for the PGP1s..

PGP1s along with not only attending these events but also winning most of them did give a MLR test.. submitted a MLR assignment and are preparing for ECO test scheduled next week...

So it was hectic week for juniors also... Its not the end here.. The club recruitments have started..

And already we have our JPRs (Junior Placement Reps) in place.. Today the PR cell and the Alumni Committee is holding its interviews of the post of JCCs..

Cheers

Hey Tapan
DK said that our room was already booked by Ralph and also by Aris...As for the remaining rooms, well M sure that all the current Pgp 2's and for that matter , even the 1's will more than gladly welcome GIM's pride and HUL's lucky acquisition.... :)
Several rooms upstairs...All of the rooms on the right except Chinz's rooms are occupied by 2's....
But of course, u forget.....OT-GF is much much more happening this year...The action has shifted downstairs...so the cricket in the corridors, loud music and bakar sessions all happening downstairs....
Bucket Party as usual happening from 222 and Majumdar's old room....and this time some rock also please..??
College has been really hectic so far....Us poor mktg majors are getting sozzled in cases....we average a case per day for sure...The chilly has lined up 16 cases for us this term...!!! But he rules as usual...!
Planning the alumni party....please drop in suggestions as to locations.....
Heard u Guys planning to hire an entire bus and come from Mumbai..dats sounds COOL!!!
