Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management)

So guys and girls, this post is just a trailer of what's in store for me @ GIM for the next two beautiful years. I haven't reached Goa yet. The joining date is 17th June, coming monday. Life is changing. Goa is coming(Sorry for the Game of Thrones Pun p )
But I would like to sum up journey of a GEM (General Engineer and a Male Candidate) to

to Goa Institute of Management. If you don't like my story then please don't kill me for it.

I have heard it is not pronounced as 'gym'. It is almost unholy to say this out loud, even in your own head.. We need to call it Gee.Aai.Emm , GIM. Three separate letters mg

Going back to the times when I was just an MBA aspirant, No respectable job prospects after engineering, family's expectations and the stress of studying for CAT,XAT,CMAT. One of my teacher at TIME,Connaught Place, Delhi asked me "Arey GIM CMAT bhi toh leta hai na". That is the first time I came back home, looked up GIM's admission criteria. Although I had known about GIM for the past one year, during my MBA planning stages but never looked it up on the internet. And boy oh boy, to my delight, I saw that GIM also takes students from CMAT. There it was. 20 tabs in my google chrome, GIM pictures in each tab and.. was I in love already? I can never tell lookround***

I thought of Goa, Beaches, Beer🍻. For a while I thought It must be like a long vacation for the students there. So I applied online after looking at the faculty's profile and after taking my CMAT exam and also filled up XAT, the just in case exam if I wanted my Alma Mater to be GIM.

Then came the email after the results and I was called for an GD/PI session in Delhi. It was the time my college Fest was going on, missed Mika Singh's performance for a good night's sleep.(Don't laugh at me guys, it was the time of 'Long Drive Pe Chal' )

On 26th February, 2013 ...I took the metro route to the YMCA Tourist Hostel, Delhi and dressed up in all new clothes hoping they'd select me. I know it's stupid but I think that worked for me later on 👏🎂p

The GD happened, and I was the last one for the interview. Waited for 2:30 hrs before I was called in. And I thought of CAT,CMAT,Butter Chicken and Gol Gappe..what not?

The interview was short and sweet. I read them a poem I wrote myself. He looked impressed but he also said that there were many others who wrote poems. I wasn't too happy but I lived. For details PM me mg

The Director of GIM, Dr. Sunil Rai himself was in the panel and he said to me that I was a good candidate and wished me all the best.

Then came the first list, I was not there. The second list, I was not there.
Talked to the super co-operative and probably the friendliest seniors in any B-School @Mangk2106 ,@avinashkrjha
, @facebook, @swayambhar on PagalGuys. I always dreamed about how these guys lived their lives until 14th May, 2013. That was the day I converted from the first Wait-list Movement.
That was the day Life at GIM began for me. That was the day I jumped out of my bed reading the convert mail. That was the day of my parents' wedding anniversary. That was the day of my first post in this thread.

I am still enjoying the Facebook converts group for 2013-2015 Batch. The Awesome GIM whatsapp group by @vipulchaturvedi with 50/50 members.

The welcome that our seniors have planned for us. The amazing weather of Goa. The most beautiful campus I know of any B-School in India. All this and the whatsapp group keeps me awake at nights before joining. They don't call it God's Own B-School for no reason.

I am lucky to have met all the people I tagged here and 240+240+240(Mere Juniors) other people who will help me turn into a better person and help me through thick and thin. I know they will. I know we will be a huge family at GIM.

#inlovewithgim already.

Cheers. True Story🍻👼

Dedicated To GIM and my friends to be... mgmg

Have fultoo masti , loads of fun and an amazing 2 years ahead ..All the best n Cheers \m/\m/

Before we know we have finished almost a week as GIM students . The view from our hostel room is plainly awesome . After waking up in the morning to see the views , the day just freshens up.

Past 1 week has not been hectic but neither have we got lot of free time , orientation sessions , GBM sessions , placecom sessions . Already got a feel of what happens if you are late to GBM's by placecom and GBM meetings 😛 .. I guess if we dont understand the virtue of coming in time we might have to reduce our budget for beers :D.
Looking forward to the CSR outings ,hope we contribute a lot for whichever project we are in,
Its funny how we introduce ourselves to each other and within next 5 minutes you dont remember his name 😃 ,easier to remember names when high i guess :D.
Football is fun to play on a ground with grass , played a proper 11 on 11 on a full football ground after around 6 years and was a day to remember though our team lost :P. Some awesome players here with lot of stamina in both PGP1 and PGP2 , hope to get my stamina back atleast by end of 1 more year.
Dont know what is in store after Sunday but as foretold by some of our faculty always be prepared before a storm comes , have decided to have a LOT OF sleep before our actual classes begin from this Monday.
Having got a trailer of Life @ GIM in the first week , would like to say picture abhi baaki hai mere dost 🍻🍻

Rather late, I know, but here is something I wrote a few days ago about my first day at GIM.

Goa welcomed us in on the morning of the 17th with a glorious sunny morning. Three of us came down by car in a beautiful drive down from Bangalore, and had the time of our lives on the way. Ekdum Dil Chahta Hai. We took turns to shout through the sunroof at astonished passers-by, we visited dhabas along the way with the best Punjabi food, we met some of the most beautiful girls of our lives during a beach stopover.

Eventually, we reached the exotically named Sanquelim, all fresh and rested. What an entry we had into GIM! We came like conquerors under the great big arch. We were modern-day Caesars storming the fort. PGP2's, watch out!

All these things didn't happen.

Goa welcomed me and my train with rains on the 17th. We twisted and curved our way through the Western Ghats and ended up about 2 and a half hours late at Madgaon, we skipped dinner after finding nothing appetising (or edible) in the carts being pushed along on the train, and we shared our berth with a couple of 70-year old men who were eager to give us advice on the cruel world. After haggling like fisherwomen with the few autos and taxis at Madgaon, we finally found a fellow who agreed to take only our arms and not our legs as the price of the journey.

We arrived at Sanquelim (Sankhli!) and our driver tried to force his way into the Government Science college at the foot of the hill. Eventually, we managed to convince him that yes bhau, we aren't kidding, there is another college in Sankhli; yes, we voluntarily chose to be “stuck” up the hill; and no, we don't plan on choosing another college. So we came crawling up the hill, had our spirits cheered looking at the arch, and our spirits quickly crushed by having to take the other gate.

All wasn't lost, we comforted ourselves. Good things don't come by easily after all. And I'll be damned, but for once, we were right. After climbing up what felt like three thousand stairs, we were in for a visual treat. What a campus! A sight for sore eyes, indeed.

A couple of painful hours later, without a pause for a cup of coffee (hello MBA!), we were finally in our rooms. PGP1s all over in their H1s and H2s (and a few in H4), were chilling finally. A collective sigh was heard, a pleasantly cold breeze was blowing, and a light drizzle (who am I kidding, heavy rain I mean) was washing over GIM.

We went on to piece together some of the small parts of the jigsaw that is our life at GIM over the course of the day. Meals were discussed in great detail (only 2 rotis!), Jaggu bhai was met at Starjuggs, the truly multi-purpose hall (auditorium, badminton court, table-tennis area, … woah) was found, and a thousand# phone cameras were kept busy throughout.

I'd be lying if I said that the journey didn't have its good moments though. I met my first friend on the train, a versatile, gregarious, and hilarious fellow who hadn't even joined the Facebook group before. I had fun telling him horror stories and things our seniors never told us. We had a blast hanging out of the train admiring the view, and I can swear we saw a waterfall on the way! Our taxi driver was really a jolly fellow who switched from Konkani music to Hindi after finding out we didn't know a word of the language. Years and years later, I'm sure I will look back and read this, and remember - thus, did all the good times begin.

Being in Goa, it seems rather inappropriate to conclude without celebrating anything. So, to all the future good times, and all the tough sailing, I'm quite ready now to take you on. Not a small amount of that confidence comes from some of the most helpful seniors around. So to you all - with a silent toast of swirling words, I raise my glass. And in my head, I can almost hear the *clink*in return. Cheers folks.

#slight exaggeration

The New Session has started. I had that opportunity to chat with most of the students from the new batch. I asked them about their day 1 experiences. Here are some of the replies I got from some of them -

# cnt do much coz f the nvr stopping rains...

# Was a great and a very tiring day infact. The campus is beautiful. Looks more beautiful in the rains. Food tasted nice but hv to wait for a long time in the queue if we dnt rch at the right time for dinner. Did not wnt to risk my cam in the rains so didnt click any pics..Overall a great experience. Filled with enthusiasm to meet more n more new frnds/classmates. No crazy things as of yet but they sure r coming soon...

# The day started at OGR (Old Goa Residency) with GIM in mind.. Finally got over with the Registration and Hostel allotment . Finally got the time to look at the valleys and the clouds and it seemed i was in some kind of a resort. I was mesmerized by the beauty around specially when it rains. The food tasted nice with Only 2 Chapatis and lot of Rice(Not used to it). The funny thing was meeting everybody but not remembering even a single name. Over all it proved to be a nice rainy day and looking forward for more..

# wonderful experience...first of all u need gps facility to reach the campus...thx to my canvass hd for that...travelling exp was amazing so as the campus..

# was allocated a room in the guest house:( Though, the guest house room is far better than the hostel rooms, still, i feel secluded being in the guest room:( Not sure when the new hostel will get ready:(... Otherwise, day1 @ GIM was gud...

# its awesome..its serene..everythng seems so beautiful..located on a hill top it sits pretty..nd its da drizzles nd da rains dat make it evn more beautiful...The sunset is Killing , can spend a life watching it !!!! juzin loving it..

# Awesome people....awesome weather....awesome bakar...awesome ambience. ...awesome 2 years 2 look forward. ..each day be better than d previous..

# great day... glimpses of the life ahead...but cant trust these mountains... they can make it spill over at any time... ... Overall a great place to be..

# Eyes drooling looking at the scenic beauty, mind confused with so many new names and faces, heart beating wd excitement that da journey has finally begun and lastly...hands aching after holding da umbrella all day long...an awesome first day..

All these experiences make me nostalgic. It was nothing different for me 2 years ago.. splat

Sitting at office, some of you guys might be surprised ...but I CAN STILL ACCESS THE GIM AIS - HIBISCUS !!!! This I remember I only used to check the timetables or check the grades...Nothing else. Maybe one visting prof sued to post some assignments over there...But other than that i felt at that time it was totally Useless.... But now I relaize the true wrth of it :) It has loads of fun flash games 😉 for TP !!!! So for souls like me..(where most of the Sites are blocked at wrk) whenever I manage to find free time at office this serves perfect use !!. N know what it makes the other folks around you at office jeleous.... So people at office 😉 Hibiscus is the best entertainment mode whenever you are bored !! and the Nostalgia adds to the 'fullfilled' feeling too !!

GIM receives top honors at ABP National B-School Awards 2013 :

Goa Institute of Management has received an award for "B-School with Industry related Curriculum in Marketing” at the recently held ABP NEWS NATIONAL B-SCHOOL AWARDS 2013. A proud moment for all of us.. !!

Post #3 God's Own B-School - I had a dream, one beautiful dream

I dreamt it when busy, I dreamt it when free,

I dreamt it for us, my parents and me,

They helped me through it, they made it easy,

I say sorry if you find this much cheesy.

Entering the gates, I was spell-bound and awed,

He built it himself, yes I am talking about the God,

Yes I had a dream, one truly beautiful dream,

Suddenly, 240 of us were living the same dream.

Lovely are the people, and lovely is the air,

So busy is the schedule, no time to spare,

To funny professors and even funnier batch-mates,

To gym's heavy weights and the cafeteria plates.

Kailash and his custard, Jaggu and his “chai”

And the very sweet Lobo, Our courier Guy,

To Eco-Clean staff, and to the pretty hostel rooms,

To ethanol and its derivatives, every dreamer consumes.

The never ending rains, With Special spirit(s) in our veins,

The ever lasting nights and some silly little fights,

We're here to learn after dreaming many dreams,

“GIM Anthem” plays and the whole batch Screams.

These three weeks of exploring, discovering and mingling,

And finding the people who'll make life worth living,

How fast lives can change, I still can't believe,

Now I dream even bigger, “To ace and achieve”.

Dream Big Everyone. You sure will make it happen. I believe in you.

Our first month at GIM. Written along with @flux652 lookround

SUMMER INTERNSHIP €Ĺš.. A journey

Done with the exams of term three,

I was relaxed and feeling free.

It was time to shift room and move to bus,

But unplanned parties delayed our movement from campus.

Went to off shop, took bottles and glass,

While leaving from Goa, never leave consumer surplus.

Days to spend at Pune were four,

Nevertheless, ye dil wanted more €Ĺš

Done with Pune, forecasted for Kolkata,

Waha pe jana, dil humsesha se chahtaaa..

Five days yet to go for 8 weeks internship,

Summer of Kolkata resulted to a Darjeeling trip.

Internship started from fools' day of April,

Brain got work of creativity, innovation and grill.

Meetings and meetings and meetings gulped the whole day,

Only good decision was, for lunch we don't need to pay J

Two hours of travel in Kolkata locals were hectic,

Hawkers and beggars poking around made it more pathetic.

Used to take same train, same coach daily,

Developed bonding with regular faces, informally

Used to get mesmerized by beer bottles on conveyor belt,

There was a requirement of a beer taster in the company, I felt.

Tried to get in depth knowledge of production,

So that, can use my residence for beer plant erection.

Scheduled were the submissions of progress reports,

In reality, were reducing the final submission efforts.

Evenings were dedicated to queries of GIM admission,

Where, questions used to come beyond my imagination.

Slowly, internship came to an end,

Prepared presentation, as per the trend

Last day at office, was the best,

Where goodies followed to me, without request

Fastened the seat belts and flew to college,

Journey of internship gave me more courage.

It's time for term IV beginning,

Let's see what GIM have in store for this new inning.

The good, bad and the ugly side of being a placement co-ordinator -->

I entered Goa Institute Of Management almost 3 months back as a wide eyed MBA aspirant. Its hard to believe that 3 months have passed since. After a harrowed 21 months stint in the IT industry, GIM was such a refreshing change! 👼 The lush green mountains...the cool sea breeze..the windy rains...the misty mornings soothe your nerves like nothing else, while you are bogged down with assignments, case studies and quizzes that haunt you everyday. Before coming to GIM, I have lived a very sheltered life never leaving my house even once for studies/work. So as expected, I was nervous, apprehensive as to how I would adjust to a new world. 👼 True, that there are people from diverse cultures, backgrounds and states here, but wowww what a learning experience this is! Everybody is soo competitive, talented and adept and each day this competition motivates you to outperform yourself lookround

Today is the last day of my term 1(phew!How time flies!!!) and as I pack my bags to go home for a week...my heart tells me I will miss GIM for the next one week and why would I not? I am absolutely in love with everything here...the campus...d students...d faculty and the living entity called GIM!Proud of my decision to come and study here😁Proud to be a GIMian👼

Goa Diary. (Ur birth is because of request of very good friend...:-P) Scene 1: 12th September, 2013: I (Cleaning room and cursing myself for decorating my room with so many things which all parents dont want to see in their child's room.).. 13th to 15th September, 2013: All kind of fun, adventure and enjoyment possible without BOOZ in Goa....Trust me it was not so bad.... 15th September, 2013 12:15 am: Dropped parents and felt like life was better in their presence in GOA but absence. Mind was active without any stimulant... Will miss u Maa-Paa.... U should come Goa often...That will help me to rejuvenize myself for few days...

Finally the train arrived. I tightly closed my fists, removed my watch and placed it safely in my pockets. I might just have to punch somebody to barge in the already crowded train. I had to reach office in an hour and it was inevitable to board this train. The next train will earn me praiseworthy taunts from my Boss for reaching too early for the next day.

After exchanging abuses and blows here and there, I was finally able to find a corner in the crowded coach. As the train proceeded, I managed to slip through the crowd and reached the door of the train coach. I was relieved with the rushing wind attacking my countenance. As I was trying to peep out over somebody's shoulder , I managed to have a glimpse of the parallel road. Rush hours did not spare the roads either. The road was full of honking vehicles. All of them had to reach on time you see. With the train approaching destined station, my thoughts took another train altogether, a train to Goa.

How different life used to be 6 months back! Even the thought of Goa was a relief. Nothing can be better then exploring Goa roads with friends on Bike, having beer while counting ferry ships sailing on the Mandovi river and Sipping Coffee at Nescafe while staring at the glittering casinos.

As if Goa was not enough, we had this magnificient GIM campus. I still remember sipping coffee while staring at the clouds passing right in front of you. I still remember sitting behind the library and wondering if the leapord would appear from behind the bushes. I still remember the campus sunset point and wonder why did the Sun look more beautiful back then. Every memory is like revealing in front of my eyes as a movie clip.

As if the mornings and evenings were not enough, the nights were even more unforgettable. It is a different topic that people dont remember what happened last night. But, as they say, some memories are embossed on the memory plane that it stays with you forever.

GIM & Goa will always be there in my heart. Those two years were the best years of my life. I still have my bike with me. Someday, I wish, I can ride my bike in Goa, again.

Suddenly, some stranger pushed me. My thought train was halted. I coldly stared back at the stranger. But, thanks to him, I realized that my station was next. As I came out of the station, I checked the time. I was on time for the presentation. I walked towards the taxi. As I approached the taxi, I wished if he could take me to Goa. But, I had go present in front of my Boss, not the marketing professor. I will be asked "What did you contribute to the Company?" instead of "What is the learning happening?"

Signing off, A GIMite for Life. .

Dandiya nyt at GIM!!!😁😁
