Hi Prasanth and Vijai..
Thanks a ton for taking time and putting in all the efforts to answers most of my queries..
I would be mailing the draft today for the form..and would be applying in the first round with my CAT 2004 score(98.1 percentile)...
It will be great if you can just mail me the profile of your batch..
Besides has the Placement for 2nd batch started...???
Please keep us updated on the proceedings in GLIm and also lemme know if selected, how much time is given to the candidate to confirm the adcomm about the decision, what is the mode for fee payment..i.e..is it payed in installments or in one go..
You both have been studying there, so one last ques...>>
How has the Experience been and on a scale of 10 whats your satisfaction level(10 being highest),and given a chance would yu want to revert back and try for something better(if you think GLIM isnt one among best)....
Thanks a Ton

rgds,
Naray
this post was vented out in anger to his comments on south indians..
Hey guys... chill out... abhishek1711 is still a newbie so give him some benefit of doubt... he might have written the post based on his personal experiences...
@abhishek1711 : I am a north indian (from MP) and I have many friends who belong to kerala, karnataka, andra ...and I can vouch that there is nothing like south indians hating north indians or so... Agreed that culture wise there is more diversity down south than exists in north....but you can find equally good and bad people in south as well as north... So do not genralise based on your personal experiences.... and yeah learn to write in a less caustic manner....
If even after reading through the various posts on GLIM and the articles posted on the protal (www.pagalguy.com), if you still have some queries then you can PM the institute current students, get their phone numbers and talk to them....
And yeah...dont get discouraged by the flames you received ....stay on this forum, learn, share and help others.....

guys i hve some things troubling me abt great lakes.i want to join it bt thn........::::
1.Location:south india!nt very attractive to be among these south indians.thy dont like us north indians and r over jealous n patriortic.besides have to survive on only idly dosa etc.......yuks
2.reputation: hardly any1 knows abt g lakes though its 2 yrs old.this makes it difficult for me to choose it as my big bro n family WOULD THINK Im nuts and its useless.
3.admisson process:i have 85.44 percentile in cat04bt thts coz of higher in english, avrage in maths and pathic(30 percentile) in Di.besides i have 2yrs of work ex in IT marketing(branded computers) and 1 yr in BPO.am also appearing for cat05.now my dilema is wethr to apply in first phaze or nt.coz IF SELECTED THN ACCEPTANCE BY DEC END BFRE CAT RESULTS AND ALL THE 2O000 SPENT IN VARIOUS FORM FILLUPS A WASTE.......AND THN WHICH SCORE TO APPLY?ARE MY CAT 04 SCORES GUD ENOUGH?OR IT REDUCES MY CHANCES....THN TO APPEAR FOR GET OR WAIT TILL CAT05 SCORES.....GUYS GUIDE ME!!!
SO PPLE ALRDY IN GLAKES WHT DO U SAY?I HEARD MOST OF U THR COZ OF LACK OF BETTER OPPURTUNITY RATHER THN CHOICE.SO SHOULD I DO THE SAME N APPLY FOR SECOND CYCLE BY THE TIME OTHER INSTITUTES RESULTS R OUT?
hey evryone,
this guy abhishek must be tickled to death reading so many views on his infamous post....
but his mail is so stupendous that i too felt like just giving this guy a piece of my mind...daresay...with all the views he must have benefitted tremendously.
i disagrre most strongly with all the points mentioned here by him...but i dismiss it as lack of exposure to different communities....but what really really pissed me off was his disrespect to the current students of glim....let me quote "MOST OF U R THERE COZ OF LACK OF BETTER OPPORTUNITY RATHER THAN CHOICE"...
listen buddy u gave cat last year and got a "great" percentile but that does not give ya any right to think others are inferior to ya in any way....whoever makes a choice for glim must have had their reasons and do not think that they go there for the heck of it or like ur post said..." their big bro and family " thought that it would be worth it....its about careers..serious life making decisions which prompts one to go for an mba...
also you mentioned that you have experince as a marketing guy...then i am really really surprised that you would run down an insti which has some reallyy good marketing guys attached with it..and i happen to know them hence i make this statement....
really in the end all i would say to ya..grow up...also buddy southie food aint only idli dosa..trust me i stayed down south fr a lot of years...
and do be respectful to the people who know what they are doing with their lives either in glim ir even else where...cos they knew what they wanted in life...not like you mr great 85 percentiler who thinks people have no choice...
maybe you dont have it ...after all what would big bro say...
to mods and others: i apologoize if i have raved and ranted or even stretched this buffoons post a tad bit long...

I was working as a Software Engineer before coming to Great Lakes. And the learning experiece has been good. I have opted for Finance as my major specialization here. Finance is taught by some well known experts in the field. In my opinion, Great Lakes is one of the best places to learn finance. The institute has lived exceeded my expectations.
2. What about the facilities?
Faculty --> Top rating. A mix of Profs from Harvard, MIT,Yale, Stern, Kellogg and IIMs + Industry Experts
Infrastructure --> Apart from a sprawling campus, hostel and a night canteen, we have everything else. 24hr access to internet. Good Library and many online and offline databases.
3. Howz the course ?
The course has 8 terms. First 4 for the basics and the next 4 for specialisation. Pressure is always there. Especially during the first two terms when students try and come in terms with the academic life. The course is a right mix of case study based and theory based. Classes may be held on Sundays as well. Assignments, presentations, deadlines .... This is a 1 yr course and is meant to be this way.
4. Do you have summers?
No. We do not have summers at Great Lakes. Being a 1 year course, the schedule does not permit summers.
5. Is it a good program for someone having experience ?
Yes, if you value your time and money and are prepared to commit full yeartime for learning sake and can handle pressure.
6. What type of accommodation is provided for outstation candidates ?
The institute assists in getting accomodation for students in places near the campus. We do not have a hostel as of now. Many of our students have taken accomodation near the college. Accomodation should not be a problem.
7. How many ppl used to apply and how many of them get shortlisted?
The number of seats in a batch is 130. Info regarding the number of applicants for each seat is not disclosed :(
8. What is the process of admission?
Three stages.
1. Qualifying Examination : CAT/GMAT/GET. We do not have any absolute cut off marks for any of these exams though the marks are given due weightage. And this weightage depends on the background of the applicant.
2. GD/PI : GD and PI are the most important stages in the admissions process. Last year no case studies were given for GD. And each candidate is interviwed by a panel of three, including one from the student community.
3. Final call: Final list (including waitlist) is released at the end of Phase I and II.
9. What about placements?
We had 100% placement last year with an average pay of around 5.5 lpa. We expect the figure to go up for our batch.
10. What are the companies that visited the campus?
Check here for the placement report for the batch of 2005.
11. Any thing else ?
We learn Chinese which is a credit course for us. Great Lakes is SOS - Student owned School. Right from admissions to placements, all activities are co-ordinated by the students only. The management provides the required expertise. Our students have also won many prizes in B School fests this year. This includes a first prize in Operations Case Study contest at IIM-K and in Economic times Case Study contest.

Hey!!
All the very best for your GD/PI. I suggest you wear Normal Formals with a Tie. You can also wear a suit if you like to. But the former would suffice.
Past GD/PI experiences can be found here. Pls go thro the entire thread.

Hi azazelin!!
This year in August, we had a 'Meet the Dean' session in which Dr Bala addressed prospective candidates about the institute.
He is coming back again this December. Will update you if any such program is scheduled. The updates will be provided in this thread. :)
