LIFE @ SIMSR

“Pursue what catches your heart, not what catches your eyes.” – Roy T. Bennett.

K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research, or fondly called K J SIMSR, is one such campus that easily catches both your eyes and your heart. Amidst the hustle and bustle of Mumbai, is located an institution known for its state of the art education in management.

After having worked and lived in Delhi for over a year, I thought that I have experienced a very professional and high paced life which is needed for a course like PGDM. Little did I know that I was in for another level of spontaneity and creativity.

It all begun with the induction, a week long program having activities ranging from debates, introductions, role plays, art and craft workshop and what not. It was amusing that each of the activities brought out some or the other qualities of a potential manager, not to forget that these helped everybody to get accustomed with the environment. High point of induction remained the outbound programme that helped each student create a bond with one another.

Apart from the induction of classes students got acquainted to the campus spread over 60 acres having a mesmerizing view, Olympic size athlete track and sports arena. The Ganesh Idol sitting in front of the SIMSR building fills you up with positivity and enthusiasm. Well, yes, enthusiasm to attend evening group task discussions after a hectic day of classes and positivity to assure yourself that assignments will be completed in time.

A student driven campus, that SIMSR is, has lots of committees that work on different verticals related to all the events, competitions and activities taking place in the campus. And their interviews, well they are grilling, giving an insight to the upcoming placement season that everybody would face. In these committees, you learn, grow and work in tandem which are essentials for a corporate culture.

Amidst these Harvard cases in classes, presentations and committee work, “All Izz Well” comes as a blessing in disguise. A 3 day inter branch cultural competition, although quite intense but manages to impart the importance of team work in a very fun way.

This experience is really amazing and is like a roller coaster that seems scary at first, but is tempting and at the same time can yield a lucrative professional trajectory for an aspirant.

Lastly, enjoying the journey is necessary but set your goals and prioritize them. As my first ever marketing presentation in KJ SIMSR taught me:

“Start with the end in mind.”

Hoping to master my future at SIMSR with ringing bells !!

What to expect at SIMSR?

Located in the heart of the city Mumbai, KJ SIMSR is not just an educational institute. It’s a home to thousands of students from across the country coming together to achieve the best learning experience of their lives.

With such diversity, SIMSR has made sure that every student explores his hidden talents and brings out his skills to showcase for all to see. To facilitate this, SIMSR has 28 student-driven committees and clubs. These committee and clubs focus on the holistic development of the students. The committees are divided into 4 broad categories namely, core committees, subject/area specific committees, committees focused on the professional growth of the students and committees focused on the cultural development of the students. These committees and clubs are entirely driven by the students of SIMSR under the guidance of their faculty mentors. They organise intra-college as well as inter-college events and competitions on a regular basis to give a feel of the professional world out there and help bring out the best in them.

SIMSR is the institution that involves students to provide the required intellectual and experiential stimulation. From Admission Committee to Placement Committee or Marketing Committee to Finance Committee, students work with dedication and rigour taking SIMSR to new heights. While Toastmasters Club helps us diversify and expand our knowledge about the industry and regular interactions also helps us strengthen our communication and networking skills, Consultacy@SIMSR - The Consulting club gives us the opportunity to work on high quality consulting services to business enterprises, entrepreneurs and voluntary organizations.

SIMSR supports the students in all their extra-curricular as well as co-curricular activities which helps them become the best for the future. They can continue their passions, interest and hobbies along with the rigorous management curriculum which keeps them fresh and on their toes.

All the above coupled with the best in class faculty, competitive peers and the choice of a wide variety of electives add significant value and help students develop a strong business instinct to become an excellent management professional.

On the auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanti it was KJ SIMSR Students privilege to attend NDTV's Dettol India Banega Swachh India’s Season 5 event. The event put forward the idea that while each one of us can keep our ten yards clean(#mere10guz) we can also lend a hand and help others learn to do so, thereby, creating a ripple effect in the Swachh ecosystem. The team got a great opportunity to learn from great minds like Mr.Amitabh Bachchan, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Mr. Prasoon Joshi.

We got great insights from Mr. Gadkari on solid and liquid waste management, and how sewage treated water can be used for power generation and other sustainable activities.
The event was a big knowledge booster and a great source of inspiration for all of us
