It's been a day and a half for me at XL. Classes haven't started as yet, the first official day is tomorrow followed by a week of prep classes.
Met some fellow puys on the campus, hope all join in this thread too. Weather's a bit uncomfortable @ jamshedpur, looking forward to the 'comfortable' lecture halls.
Weather is cool now....... but the schedule is hectic....
for all here is a taste of life@XL......
apart from the prep classes we r having GBMs which start at 10:30 pm n go on till 3, 3:30 am dress code - formal attire ..... then ice breaking sessions in the JLT ..... so u sleep at 4-5 in the morning n thn again get up at 8am.......
Learning to sleep in between sessions in breaks of 10, 15, n 30 minutes.......
Sports meet is going on along with nukkad natak which happened yesterday..... u get XL size fun in these events..... All this to be done along with presentations, assignments......blah blah......
sometimes i feel like why the hell did i leave my job...... it was so easy in IT ......
other times i feel like this is the place to be in...... lets c hw it turns up when actual classes begin....
hemantunlimited, himanshu_kapila,d_1,mbacall and me are all floor mates!! 😃
Kapila has already started to behave like an HR .. lol.. and Jaideep pajji is a great actor.. 😁
Enjoying sleep deprivation in an perverse way.
Made some friends here.
As the line goes - 'Sabka katega'.
Yaar yeh kapila ki itni taarif sun li....milao yaaron is 'sincere student' se!!!
aur haan let us puys have a meet sometime...everyday some1 comes up and i realise he's from pg...1 baar saare ek saath ek platfrom par milte hain..wast say?
Well.. I had vowed to myself that my first post regarding life@XL would be from my room in the hostel. Now that we've been connected to the "global village" out there, I'd want to keep up my promise.
The morning of 13th June 2010. At around 10 30 our train pulled into the Tatanagar station after a 2 hour delay. As I alighted with my luggage, there was an autowallah standing as if he were waiting to welcome me!.. As I stepped off the train, he asked me whether I wanted to go to XL..(Maybe it was the 8 bags of luggage that did the trick for me!"). I dumped my bags in his auto and set off towards what would be my home for the next 2 years.
I had people telling me that Jamshedpur was known to be a 'clean and green' city. But the first few minutes of my journey in the rickety auto had me thinking otherwise. It was humid and hot and there was no sign of greenery as far as I could see. But all that changed when we entered the Tata area. There were lush green lawns and beautiful fountains. There were trees on the either sides of the road. It was a complete transformation.
Then a direction board which read "XLRI Jsr" caught my eye. The feelings that I had then, can only be paralleled by the ones you have when you are probably going to meet the love of your life after a loooooooong loooooong time.. It was anticipation. It was excitement. It was anxiety. It was restlessness. It was all these and much more..
Neway, in my mind I had imagined XL to have a grand arch at the entrance, reminding us all that we were mere mortals standing in front of this great institute. That it rose above us all as supreme, intimidating and almighty. But to my pleasant surprise, it wasn't so. XL has a modest, unassuming entrance, with two pillars on either side and a gate which is open to all those who come here to seek knowledge. It seems to convey the message that, in humility lies greatness.
Awestruck as I was, I proceeded to keep my luggage in the room allotted to me. Again, there was nothing overbearing about the hostel. A simple structure, devoid of any unnecessary frills and fuss. It seemed to welcome me with a smile. It seemed to comfort me that despite staying away from home, it'd ensure that I would not miss it.:)
The first two days were spent in meeting new people, making friends and looking forward to the inauguration of the academic year. On 15th of June, after a simple inauguration ceremony, we were inducted into the XLRI batch of 2012
Since then, till today, it has been a rollercoaster ride with assignments, classes, lectures by seniors and many other activities. Seniors here have been very helpful trying to help us get acquainted with the life here. Be it acad sessions or bakar with them, it has been a great time here. Hope it continues to remain so in the days to come. And by the looks of it, I'm sure it will. 😃
Today after 8 days of preparatory program, classes have commenced for 2010-12 batch and last 10 days have been gr8,being the part of best team at nukkad natak(All credit to my roomie Ahluwalia for the wonderful show) and my script also being applauded (I mistook BM roll no. for PMIR and gave script to oder group).
As far as turning an HR manager is concerned some of my floor mates are giving me a lot of practical training, waking them up for classes is equivalent to taking on a striking union.
Met PG mates here and we all are gelling up well.
haan to bacchon 😁 here i am....life at XL is FUNNNN...i have made a gooood bunch of friends and its real fun....ask anyone abt me arnd and u ll get not so good responses...everyone is like "humne socha tha silent assassin padhaku sa shareef sa hoga...par ye to............hai " 😛 but its fun...people come and ask ..acha tu hai silent assassin lol and so on..but its all fun...no sleep but all fun 😁
Hey ppl,
Guess My time of posting has come.We are enjoying ourselves to the max @ XL.Already have become back benchers and enjoy each and every lecture and session not obviously coz of the gyaan but the jokes we crack.Me, kat , jaideep ( we call him papaji here 😃 ) and mbacall have become gr8 chums and hopefully wud be passing out of here at the same time...( sahi keh raha hoon na yaaron 😉 ).Kapila continues to amaze us with his sincerety and hard work ( saare notes tu hi dega humein) . Mishra ji thode ladkon ko bhi fan bana lo....bas ladkiyan hi fan banti jaa rahi hain.Vote to hum bhi karenge class rep ke liye. I have now no doubt whatsoever as to what inspired Xl ki kudiyaan track. Believe me aspirants this is one thing in which XL wud surpass all your expectations.chalo bahut bakar ho gayi.Got a class at 9 tomorrow and the one early obviously gets the chosen seat next to a cute chic ( Mein kal 8:30 pahunch raha hoon ).
cheers,

I did not have much expectations from this city but guys its not that bad. Hope we have some more rains to bring down the scorching heat..
TFEMR 3rd floor is amazing .. lot of puys here .. gelling along nicely with people. d_1's room is the most popular place for bak everyday
.. wish papaji( jaideep ) was also in this wing.. papaji's one liners are too funny to resist :).. kapila makes his assignment groups only with people who he thinks are going to fetch him marks 😁 .. nevertheless he wakes up people before the class and is responsible for a lot of my attendances already
.. even though mbacall has moved to BM but he still lives in the IR floor
which is great ..
Oye mujhe kisi tarah IR me lelo :'(....BM to logon ne padh padh ke duniya tabah kar di hai!!!aur hain thank god for D1,Mr Kat, mbacall and the ones mentioned above we are having the times of our lives!!
People say its very diificult for Indians to change, those who say this come to floor 3 of TFEMR at XLRI,all of us here 15 days back were working professionals and now we have turned ourselves into true B-Schoolers.So change management ka is saal ka award hame milna chahiye.
Everyday bakar is part of life and papaji's one liners are really awesome, hemant unlimited hamari class ki ek bandi ke bare me ek shabd bardasht nahi karte hain aur Mr.Mrigank sote hi reh jate hain.
Today ECO class was gr8 and sir asked us to think differently ,yesterday we had interaction wid the alumni both of whom have been M.Ds.
And aajkal Mr.Kat mujhse naraz hai as u must have seen, but thaas what frnds are for.maan jayega.
I guess this is the difference in living and being alive coz when all of us are together in D_1's room atmosphere is electrifying and papaji I also think u mast have been in PMIR.
chalo jee ab class ka time ho rha hai aur kafi logo ko ye batana hai so
Himanshu_Kapila Sayshemant unlimited hamari class ki ek bandi ke bare me ek shabd bardasht nahi karte hain
