Tweeting and texting overtake meeting!

Today technology has made our life much easier. It has made a significant impact on the way we communicate. People can easily contact each other via mobile phones either through calls or text messages. That makes things faster and simpler. In fact, it is gradually replacing meetings. The smartphone-friendly generation prefers to communicate via tweets and texts.

This is a time of globalisation and the world is becoming more and more connected because of technology. In long distance communication, texts and tweets can provide vital information instantly for which a meeting would have taken a much longer time. In case of an emergency you can reach out to the required person within no time. Global leaders can communicate their thoughts to the masses through tweets and within minutes the whole world knows what they are thinking. This is the power of texts and tweets. Migrants can send tweets to the ministry to have their grievances addressed quickly. This was not possible if we had to meet the concerned persons every time we needed them. It also helps us to constantly be in touch with someone. But should it become a habit rather than a necessity?

In a tech-savvy era where things are changing faster than ever, we tend to save time and use the easier route to express ourselves. People may tend to avoid meetings and get-togethers as most of them think why take the pain to go somewhere and meet if we can convey the message by a call or a text. They prefer to communicate via messages. Earlier we used to meet and plan. And now we mostly have to plan and then meet. In many companies, bosses communicate with their subordinates through texts more frequently. Ultimately we are trying to make communication shorter and faster.

Shortcut to communication is useful but it cannot overweigh the benefits of a meeting where we can share not only ideas but also gestures, expressions and feelings. In a meeting many people can communicate simultaneously and it avoids any kind of confusion which may arise in texts. It can be a lot more effective than just texting. It can bring companies closer to their clients. It can help people to negotiate better and to solve bigger problems. It can improve the understanding between people. It can also help to dispel any hard feelings. Above all, feelings are what make our life real; meetings can turn into memories because we tend to remember how we feel during a meeting. Can we replace the warmth of a hug or the joy of a cheerful handshake with any text app?

So, while we are enjoying the benefits of technology and speedier communication, we should not forget that overuse of anything brings more harm than good. Having a meeting or get together once in a while with friends, family and colleagues will not only improve our connections but also our emotional stability. (491 words)
