Need some Opinions on CFA

hEY Guys
i am silent member of this thread..
But after reading few post i couldn't stop my self to write a post
Defending CFA Institute for new policy of bundling books.

The reason i am pursuing CFA(CFA level 1 june),bcoz of my love for finance, bcoz of my passion in money creating instruments.I am not pursuing it like any other degree.

And i firmly believe that coaching centers (Schweser, Stalla etc.)are making this golden degree just like anyother. Learn the imp. concept and just pass for the sake of passing it.

The recent policy of CFA will not only help students to know the Syllabus in FULL but will also help CFAI to judge worldwide students fairly who 'll be armed with the Same Ammunition(being CFA is a global exam) and by passing the students with correct and FULL knowledge of the concept not the people who know the imp. concepts and formulas.

And We just cant blame the Institute for profit making, i ask all CFA aspirants(including me) are they using photocopy notes or original ones????
and i guess we all know the answer, Now tell me guys who is making profits by not giving authors their dues????

Cheers

P.S:- i respect all members view and would love to hear your views on it.

Bhai log.... yeh dood(milk)khaan milta hai?????

how can i register for june 2008 level 1 exam i am in india.
thank you..

And i firmly believe that coaching centers (Schweser, Stalla etc.)are making this golden degree just like another. Learn the imp. concept and just pass for the sake of passing it.
The purpose of an exam is to check if the students have learnt things beyond mugging up the concepts ,if scheweser and Stella as you say are able to get students to pass the exam by mugging up formula's then the CFA people have not done a very good job of setting the exam ;have they ??

The recent policy of CFA will not only help students to know the Syllabus in FULL but will also help CFAI to judge worldwide students fairly who 'll be armed with the Same Ammunition(being CFA is a global exam) and by passing the students with correct and FULL knowledge of the concept not the people who know the imp. concepts and formulas.
What guarantee is there that just because I have the books I will study the whole course,in fact for my Level 3 next year(hopefully) I still plan to study from Scheweser even if I have to buy the CFA books..

Also what if I had a friend from whom I borrowed the books.
Yes I know we all use xeroxed notes but there is a reason for that.
The prices of these books are set in US Dollars ,if the CFA institute would come out with Low Cost editions taking into account the purchasing power parity into account just like a lot of the big publishers I would gladly buy those books provided they are good.
The problem with the present books is that I do not want them ,I do not find them useful and they are for too expensive yet I am being forced to purchase them at prices denominated in USD..

And We just cant blame the Institute for profit making, i ask all CFA aspirants(including me) are they using photocopy notes or original ones????

CFA claims to be a non profit institute committed to the development of professionals for the Investment Management Industry so yes I do blame them ....
Consider GARP ,CIAI ,PRM all these organizations also run along similar lines
and none of them force you to buy any material.

hEY All

Well yes i agree CFA being a Non Profit Organization is debatable and i too sometime feel that they are charging in excess, when exchange rate comes to play.

But we also cant deny the fact they use huge sum of money for brand building ""CFA"", Course Development, Research etc. which in turns help the students only. And it's not only CFA but Varsity like Havards ,Kelloggs charge like anything on this earth, but the money goes to attract world class professors for course development, for research and surely for Brand Building which makes it an elite institute.

Thats why i guess when we compare Courses like GRM, CIAI, PRM etc
CFA popularity is much higher and is accepted in Global Finance Community as a Gold standard degree for finance

As i said earlier also... Books will help in standardization of course and the way its been taught All Over the World which will in turn help and make easy for CFAI to introduce new readings frequently and MORE efficiently , for eg. this june level 1 Corporate Governance was introduced but Schweser didn't cover the whole chapter(just 2 pages write up) and we all faced questions on the D day just like an innocent baby being charged for the eating all the cookies.

And its not because of the price of the material is high and by reducing the price, would ensure we ll buy the original one,Take an example of Windows we have a "Low cost edition for India" but who buys it????

Cheers
