Need some Opinions on CFA

One of my friend has joined this international cfa course and he is also doing the indian one. The course is really a good one and carries a huge weightage. Its better than any other course in india
The best thing about it is you can continue with ur work in these 3 years of preparation without getting worried of any articleship programme like the ca one
- you get a great placement in foreign countries provided u do well in all the three exams
I am planning to appear in the month of december 2006
planning to form a group in kolkata anybody who is in the same boat from kolkata can pm me we can make this journey a fruitful one by not only sharing the material but by helping with the subjects as well
best of luck for the guys who have their exams in the month of june 2006

I am a student of bachelor of business studies at college of business studies. I want to know am i eligible for CFA after 15 years of education? what is LOS ? are they something to be written in the exam. should i go for cfa? minimum time to complete cfa?

good call!

i hate the sword-hanging too, but on the other hand, i dont take things seriously unless there`s a deadline and a crisis in the first place! So the mandatory sword hanging is necessary for me. plus, i also want to complete level 2 in june 2007, which wont be possible if i complete level 1 in december, coz 6 months is just not enuff for level 2...hope you`ve taken that into account too.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Actually there is one more reason. For some reason, my company won't reimburse the CFA L1 fee as it does for others if they pass. And I'm not ready to invest all this $$ on my own.

Completing L1 and L2 in one year is entirely possible.. Lots of people at my company do it this way every year. All the best for your prep :)

Okay junta, now some general knowledge:

To get TI-BA 2 calc in bangalore, contact cranes software, domlur.
Also, I hope you're making good use of http://www.analystforum.com ... Lots of gyan there about CFA n finance in general..

cheers

hey guys...i`m back! no action on this thread since such a long time now. Welcome aboard to the Miss Jain.

Here`s something interesting i found on the cfa ka website...it`s called "Level 1 Withdrawal Option". Now doesn`t that sound simply great? For all those who have been regretting their decision to enroll for the june 2006 level 1, this must sound like such a boon...you get to withdraw and appear in december. read this:

******************

LEVEL I WITHDRAWAL OPTIONLevel I candidates currently enrolled for a Level I examination may withdraw their enrollment and re-enroll for the next Level I examination.
Withdrawal forms must be received by CFA Institute by the deadline date listed on the form. Late withdrawal forms will not be processed or returned. Candidates failing to withdraw by the deadline will not be able to re-enroll for the next Level I examination until Level I results have been released. The records of all candidates who did not officially withdraw from the current exam or who sat for the exam are "frozen" until exam results are released. CFA Institute typically releases Level I examination results within sixty (60) days of the examination date.
As a re-enrolling candidate, an additional registration fee is not necessary; however, all applicants are required to pay an enrollment fee for each examination as determined by the CFA Institute Fee Schedule.

  1. Enrollment fees cannot be deferred from one examination to the next.
  2. There is no refund of any fees.
  3. Candidates may only be enrolled for one examination at any time.
  4. Enrollment forms must be received by CFA Institute no later than the final enrollment deadline for that examination.
  5. The curriculum and suggested textbooks will change from year to year and the examination is based on the curriculum assigned that year. The Level I curriculum does not change from June to December.
  6. Candidates will be unable to enroll online until their withdrawal has been processed. Please allow 7-14 days for processing.
  7. Once processed, withdrawals will not be reversed.
Once the withdrawal has been processed, should a candidate wish to re-enroll for the original examination, another enrollment form and enrollment fee must be submitted, according to the CFA Institute Fee and Deadline Schedule. CFA Institute will not accept enrollment forms submitted after the published deadlines. CFA Institute strongly suggests submitting a paper enrollment form along with the Withdrawal Request Form for quicker processing.

**********************************

Doesn`t the statement "as a re-enrolling candidate, no extra registration fees is to be paid" sound like music? Notice the fine print though. they wont refund your money even if you withdraw from their exam...neither will they transfer the registration fee to the next exam!!! If you withdraw now, and register for the december level 1 exam, you have to pay the 20K again! So this option is nothing more than a graceful exit. as in, if you`re sure to fail, you might as well not appear for the exam. The only difference is, you wont be declared as failed, you`ll just be a "withdrawn" candidate.

Who on earth would withdraw from the exam instead of attending it for the heck of it...i have no clue. These ppl dont wanna miss any opportunity to make money basically. Anywyas, just wanted to let you guys know, and warn you not to fall for it.

Ciao!

But i am skeptical since the institute says they want TI BA II plus version.
I confirmed it, both the models are allowed.
In all 4 models r permitted- 2 each from HP n TI.
But the schweser CDs explains using the TI models.
Also, the professional has some added features n is the latest one.
So I will buy th TI BA II Pro. I asked an imported stuff's shop in nagpur to get me that. Lets see if this materialises, else I wld get that from bbay.
Can u pls tell the details abt the store where I can get that for 2700?? The price looks ok as its for about 4200 on ebay

Hi Radhika......where were you all this while... ( by the way, why so late if you were a silent observer?)

I don't think you need to worry so much......
Its 12th today and i guess i am not sure..you can pay the fees till 13th midnight. Just checkout on the website link. Thats like 48 hrs more...

This is true only if you pay through an international credit card which is how most of us pay...

The registration procedure is very simple and it is a matter of minutes before you are compelled to slog your butts off....i.e. u r registered!

I think myself and CTD both woke up late like you...so no need to worry...

Although its strange to see Rs. 37,000/- get converted in a virtual form of acknowledgement in a matter of minutes without getting anything concrete.

Yes, u need to give the level I even after ur graduation
This is a certificate crse, n u must be aware that certificate crses arent university crses. This is CFA - AIMR (association for investment mgt n reseasrch)

HI, everybody. Nice to see this community. Did find it after googling. I am from Delhi and am going to take level 1 in dec06. Any one from delhi do get in touch. and thanks to CTD for initiating such a forum

Hi all,

I m working in Infosys In Banking and Capital Markets Domain....I m really interested in this functional area and have decided to tke up CFA Level 1 by dec'06.....u must judged by now tht i m an engineer..so no bakground in finance..though i hve gained lot of functional knowledge through my work exp.....guys plz advice whether it is ok for me to give level 1 by dec'06..is it sufficient enough time ...
..Also i hve decided upon to work on my Profile a lot before i go in for mba .......so plnning to give cat n also gmat this year and at the sme time will work a lot on my profile..so tht i hve a gud profile before i join a B-school...as wht i feel is ur Profile does matter a lot before u join a B-shool..a s it wud help you in the long run...

hi....pgites
is it necessary to have work experience before CFA- AIMR..???
can a fresh graduate in accounts honours do iy..??
can we register ICFAI and AIMR together...??
what are the lasat dates of registeration for dec 2006...??

plzzzz do answer my querries my frenzzz....

Hey all. The action seems to be returning to this thread...Nice!

Hope the prep is coming out good. I`ve hardly managed to complete any LOS PROPERLY. i`ve read thru some and glanced thru the others, but not much progress. i guess i`m gonna be a big LOS-er with this CFA!

Anyways, sky destiny dude...absolutely no work ex required BEFORE appearing for the CFA exams. But AFTER completion of CFA level 3, you need 4 years work ex to officially get hold of the CFA charter. however, this is just a formality. i mean, so what if you officially dont have the cfa title, you would have still cleared level 3 and that counts for a lot!

Vin dude, welcome to the club! Im not sure if your work ex in the capital market sector will help, i hope it does. the cfa is all about investment and economics...so sector exposure is not enough, that`s what i think. If you`re aiming for dec 2006, you have plenty of time. register early and save money. As for b-school profile, you need to check out the forum on gmat and foreign mba. If tyour querry is about how cfa will add to your profile...then i can say...it`ll work well in your favour. it is a rigorous international course and is also relevant to the domain in which you are working. it goes to prove your academic potential...so good decision. We`re both in the same boat by the way...i`m aiming for a US mba too. have you taken the gmat yet?

How`s everybody`s preparation coming alone? keep posting. archbishop dude...kita hua? how much have you finished? give us an update man...what you studying these days? i`m on economics.

1) U dont get the charter unless the relevent workex of 4 yrs (also, u need to clear level I,II,III b4 that)

2)yes u can apply, clearing the levels is also an addition on CV apart from the charter, which seems distant

3)yes, u can do them simultaneously, but it hardly makes sense that ways. Also, ICFAI is hardly anything in comparision to AIMR. ICFAI is having its own issues n it no longer gives u CFA degree but a MS finance

4)The registration dates for dec 2006 CFA havent sterted as yet, 15th of march is the final deadline for june-2006 attempt

hi freinds,
i am going to register on 15 march 2006. is there any difference if we register on the later date. what u peoplr will reccomend me to register on.

there`s no difference, except that if you register on march 15th, you`ll be paying a lot more money! plus, if you`re planning to START your studies now, after registering for march 15th, then you`re facing a very difficult task. it`s not impossible, but it`s very difficult for sure. If you dont have too many other constraints, then i`d reccomend you go for december 2006...that`ll save you money and give you more time to prepare.

i think by 15 aug, you meant 15 march! anyways, the material takes about 4 weeks to deliver i think. So if you`re gonna register on 15 march, and then order books, and then wait for them to arrive and then start your studies, then i dont think you`ll be able to make it. if you arange quickly for some xerox copies locally, then you have just about enough time. Make a well thought out decision, coz it`s a huge investment...dont act rashly. best of luck.

Hi All,
You guys have a great thread running and I'm posting this query at a wrong place. But before any1 plans to throw me out or blacklist me ,I really had no other way to ask my ques. coz I did not find and site anywhere where I could ask this.
I'm seeing a lot of Engg. here....So I'm trying my luck here......Pls bear with me. .....I just wanted to know if ddesign courses or jobs in designing have a criteria for having ppl with perfect eyes..such as no colourblindness. Does being even partially colourblind not give any chance in design professions or cause problems in recruitment???

If any1 can answer my query I'll be grateful, if not then pls ignore this.,

THX A LOT AND ALL THE BEST TO ALL.
