Need some Opinions on CFA

hey CTD
A qualified CFA can expect anywhere between $100000-$140000 p.a in USA. (Mind you thats the starting salary).

Once you have cleared level 2 exams you could think of going to the states and take a job which would pay you between 50000-75000$ p.a

though I agree that the course is very useful - the above 2 are completely bollocks !

Thanks Akshat for your reply. You are really doing a great job by sharing your past experiences with the preparation of the exam. Taking your advice I have gone thru with the previous posts and it was really very informative.

One more question I have and hope you won't mind answering. Is the curriculum for the June and Dec exam same for CFA L1 exam as I am planning to buy the Schweser material now itself for Dec exam. Also, do you have idea where can I get the material in bangalore as you might have come thru someone from bangalore during your time of preparations.

Thanks
Sourabh

hiii every1... I hope u guys must be waiting for ur results... best of luck.....

I had a question about one institute Ace... which gives coaching kind of stuff at Delhi and various other places....I was kind of wondering how is this institute as compared to other material providers like Stalla and schweiser....

if anyone has taken a coaching at these institutes then do enlighten me about its quality and stuff..... thank you....

I don't think coaching of any sort will help you as far as CFA is concerned because of the huge amount of syllabus you have to cover. This is more so in case of ppl not having exposure to Finance. Personally, I thought of enrolling for Ace3levels coaching when I appeard for my CFA Level I. They don't have classroom sessions in Hyderabad and I have participated in one or two sessions of their online coaching. The online training was definitely not worth the money.

Hope this helps.

i am in delhi and so how is the classroom session,... i mean does one need schweser and stalla then??????

Unfortunately, I don't have any idea about classroom sessions. But I can confidently say most of the people buy the schweser notes and clear L1 straightaway without a hitch. There would be very few who opt for a classroom coaching.

Hi All,

Let me introduce myself as Arun Siddhi. I am an engineer from Pune University, working in S/W for past 2 years.
My dreams of pursuing MBA from IIMs got shattered again.
Now I am planning to take CFA Level 1. I am sure that with my current job profile it is the second best option to rise up in the ladder.
My search for this landed me up here. I have few queries -
1. Is there any coaching class for CFA level 1 available in Pune? I saw some online classroom sessions. It didi not appealed me as they are NOT interactive.
2. Is Schweser sufficient?
I was a lot matured discussion among all of you. So I decided to join the gang. Keep Guiding.

Hey all!

I am, like many of you here, looking to give my CFA L1 in June.

I finished my B.Com in May 2008 and I have been working with Irevna for 8 months now.

I wanted to know if any one from Chennai would be willing to give his CFA L1 material for a couple of days. I would probably take photocopies and would need it for 1-2 days.

I want to do this before I go ahead and register (before the Feb deadline). This would help me in knowing if I would be able to go ahead with the test.

Cheers!

Hi Akshat. Thanks for all your reply.
I am looking into the 2008 Schweser material before finding the 2009 one.

As I am going thru the 2008 material I am facing little bit of difficulty in grasping the concepts. Can I PM you incase I find a concept difficult to understand. Your efforts will be really appreciated.

Thanks,
Sourabh.

Just a thought - I believe in India, probably we take exams with unnecessary seriousness...I dont know if you'll ever need any coaching for CFA. The material you've for CFA is designed in such a way that you might not require any other's guidance in any of levels...there are plenty of examples and small case studies.
Given that you have taken FRM, this exam will not be very difficult.

Complete CFA information is available at their website, and there is no comparison between any course. You cant compare apples to oranges 😃 Indian CFA has its own course structure and CFA {International} has its own relevance. However,CFA offered by CFA Institute USA has more exam takers than Indian CFA.
CFA will definitely enhance you chances of getting into Finance related profile, however, it dosent guarantee that you will eventually land up in finance related job. Probably after taking CFA you might find - working in financial sector is not so glamourous and you opt for something else.

All the best!

Hi,

But to get a feel of CFA exams i feel it is better not to risk 1080 $ for a mere 8000.Why take a risk??

Valid point 😃 I remember a one-liner "It is difficult to cross a running stream without getting wet.."

anyways, everyone has its own way of analysing things and taking up studies...however a personal opinion you might need those 8,000 later when you are done with exam, probably for a vacation 😃 ...given CFA institute is not giving exams in India...you might think of investing that money for holidays...

All the best!

Hi,

Tomorrow is Level 1 result.. the time mentioned is 9:00 a.m ET ... Any idea what would be the corresponding indian time??

7:30 PM IST

All the best !!

Hi,

Are you waiting for your L1 result as well... on the site there is nothing as of now... I guess one more hour of wait should suffice.. as the clock strikes 7.30
