Follow this post. This is written by a guy who scored high marks in rbi assistant examination. I'm just reposting it here hoping that aspirants preparing for NIACL and other exams may find it useful in their preparation. Here it goes: GUIDELINES FOR PREPARATION  This post is meant primarily for the aspirants for RBI Assistant and other similar pattern/level exams.  CA Read the computer compilations provided by different websites (BA, AC, GS etc) to get an overview of the subject.    Then, refer individual topics using google and wikipedia for better coverage. Breath of knowledge is more essential than depth for this section of the exam.    Prepare topic-wise and solve MCQs for practice. Following is a list of important topics:    1. Cloud computing - types and features 2. Programming languages - full forms, basic features, generations 3. MS office - keyboard shortcuts, functions, features  4. OSI model - basic knowledge about layers and their features 5. Networking - basics of IP address, network topology, network devices  6. Storage devices and computer memory 7. Operating system - types, differences 8. Hardware - devices and ports 9. Tech used in banking - MICR, OCR, electronic funds transfer etc  10. Database - types, differences and applications   GA This section can be classified into three subsections: 1. Current Affairs: related to banks and financial institutions; bureaucratic, banking, and political appointments; defence deals and military exercises; important obituaries; sports - major events and results; national and international awards and their winners; events and meetings; MoU's and partnerships pertaining primarily to India; loans provided to India by international financial institutions; major State and Central government schemes launched recently; recent book launches and their authors; etc.  3-4 months prior to the date of exam worth of current affairs should ideally be thoroughly prepared. Recommended sources: g k  t o d a y, current affairs by BA, AC. 2. Financial Awareness: basics of banking - basic history, major acts, types and differences, features, products, etc; important regulatory institutions; technology used in banking; recent trends in banking industry. The emphasis is on facts, figures, and features. Any banking awareness compilation will be useful for preparation. 3. Static GK: national parks; wildlife sanctuaries; major ports; major airports; country - currency - capital; sport stadiums; headquarters of major national and international organisations; dance and music forms in India; etc. As is evident, this portion is vast, and only few questions are asked from it. Therefore, selective memorisation is useful and practical. For example, memorising currency-capital of countries recently in news; memorising national parks and sanctuaries recently in news; and so on. QUANT This section can be attempted with 100% accuracy. The level asked in RBI Assistant mains was only moderately difficult. It consists of: 1. Numerical Ability: comprising number series, approximations, simplifications, quadratic equations. Practice is essential to improve speed and accuracy. 2. Word Problems: on topics like speed-time-distance, work-time, races, SI and CI, percentages, averages, alligations, probability, etc. Conceptual clarity and exposure to different problems is required.  3. DI: Practice will improve speed of calculations and efficiency in decoding visual data. REASONING The level asked in RBI Assistant Mains was easy-moderate. Can be attempted with very high accuracy in a fairly short time. It comprised of alpha-numeric series, single/double variable seating arrangement puzzles, simple coding-decoding, double variable grid puzzles, and some other questions. No critical/analytical reasoning questions. In conclusion, a fairly easy section that should be maximised.   ENGLISH  A slightly challenging section primarily due to intelligently designed options that snare the unsuspecting test taker.     RC; vocabulary; paragraph completion; find error; para jumble; find odd sentence; cloze test; double fillers - are the common question types.     A regular reading habit will improve vocabulary, grammar, and semantic understanding. One can read newspapers, novels, magazines, gadget and movie reviews, standard textbooks - everything helps.     MOCKS  Preparation would be incomplete without solving mocks. Solve each mock with sincerity as if it were the actual exam. Analyze mocks equally diligently. Aim to increase accuracy.   A good mock practice would improve efficiency in selecting and solving questions; help fine-tune time allocation; give exposure to questions of different difficulty levels; and give the confidence of facing the actual exam.   Recommended series - P M and O B.
