Number System - Questions & Discussions

sorry dear shasahank that was my mistake... i've corrected it now... reattempt it now

my today's question for u all.

The number of non-negative real roots of 2^x x 1 = 0 equals
a) 0
b) 1
c) 2
d) 3

e) 4

answer is 2..
values 0 and 1..

Q> Let S={1,2,3,,,,,n} be a set of N natural nos. Let T be a subset of S such that the sum of any three elements of T is not less than N.Find the maxi nos of element in any such subset T for N=40??

(a)26
(b)27
(c)28
(d)none of these

The ans is-d

What should be the approach 4 such a question and explain also??

let T-{a,b,c}
case 1: a=1
let b=2 then c = 40,39,38,37 = 4
let b=3 then c = 40,39,38,37,36 = 5
similarly for b = 19 , c =40 to 20 = 21
hence total = 4+5+...21 = 225
is the ans 225??

I am getting 28.
T can have all elements from 40 to 13. Total = 28.

how are u getting 28??
explain ur approach..
how are u getting 28??
explain ur approach..

see boss its the the least element is 13
hence the least sum is 13+14+15 = 42
if u take 12 then the least sum will be 12+13+14 = 29 hence all nos. from 13 to 40 can be included in the set...
so total = 40-13+1 = 28
how are u getting 28??
explain ur approach..

S = {1,2,3,...,39,40}
T = {13,14,15,...,39,40}
Sum of any three elements of T will be greater than 40.

use fermi little theorem to simply the number

77(upto 36 digits) will be divisible by 19

so answer is 7

fermi little theorem : for any prime number p , (p-1)times,same digit is repeated , then that number formed is exactly divisible by p ..

Answer is 7.

The puzzle is a 3x3 board consisting of numbers from 1 to 9. The objective of the puzzle is to swap the tiles until the following final state is reached:
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
At each step, u may swap two adjacent tiles
if their sum is a prime number.
Two tiles are considered adjacent if they have a common edge.

find the shortest number of steps needed to reach the goal state.
for a given arrangement

Hi im from mumbai, i want to ask the cat testtakers,,whether trignometry,statistics & operator based question r out of the quant syllabus or no bcoz we hav been informed that we dont need to prepare these topics as they r irrelevant

yeah the answer will be 2. the values of x other than 0 and 1 wouldn't satisfy the given condition...

IT IS BETTER TO FAIL IN DOING SOMETHING THAN TO EXCEL IN DOING NOTHING.
Try these-----
(1) For how many values of a natural number n, the LCM of 6^6, 8^8 and n is 12^12?
(a)1
(b)6
(c)24
(d)25
(e)36
(2) Suppose a function f(x) is defined over the set of natural numbers...
as follows....
f(1)=1
f(2)=1
f(3)=-1
and f(n)= f(n-1)f(n-3); for n>3.
find f(694) + f(695).
(a)-2
(b)-1
(c)1
(d)2
(e)3

And puys full explanation please........
