Need help! How do one deal with uncertainity regarding college admission dates. Here is the thing....
Have 2 converts - IMI and IIFM - went for IIFM (cost factor), IIT-D WL - 150
IIFM last date for final admission is 26th June.
IIT - D overall waitlist - 150 (without accounting for last two movements) - looking at trends - if at all the WL gets cleared it wont get cleared before 26th June.
Shall i join IIFM or wait for IIT-D?

The second list is out and I am WL 28 in DLT second list.. I know with 10 people still awaited in first lit my chances are bleak...but most of them are waitlisted in DLM as well....is there any reason to be hopeful or just give up

During Admission time we are very confused which institute to go for and adding to this confusion is the unexpected movement of waitlist. We are happy that we made it through waitlist and anxious whether we will make it through the final selection.
Lot of money is involved in this process. As one might have to deposit fees of another college hoping to secure at least one college.
So here are some last year's admission figures of DMS, IITD.
First things first
DMS IITD, focuses on quality rather than filling complete seats... it sets a minimum cut-off for the cumulative score ( which includes CAT + Acads + GD + PI + few other things like extracurricular etc.) if candidates doesn’t qualify that score then he / she will not even make to waitlisted candidates. So kudos to the candidates who made it to the waiting list.
Since according to Govt policy a candidates can withdraw the admission before registration and only 1000 rupees will deducted (registration happens 2 days before the class starts). This is the reason waitlist moves slow at the beginning and moves faster towards the end. [But there are cases where a candidates sends withdrawal application on the same day of registration (situation A) and get a full refund (minus 1000 rupees)]. So with 2 days remaining in classes beginning and few seats remaining vacant, it is unfair to candidates who are still in waiting list ready to start their MBA journey.
So last year next day of registration (due to situation A) one day counselling was arranged for candidates in the waiting list. They were called on campus to confirm if they wanted the admission and seats were allocated as per their waiting list numbers. And if Y candidates appear and X seats are left where (X < Y) obviously X candidates will get admission as per their waiting list numbers.
Last year few candidates were selected in the very first list which came. Then followed waiting lists. This year 1st waiting list is pretty big, which didn’t happened last year. We had small waiting lists at regular interval.

274 in waiting list (all waiting list combined) - Candidate of WL number 123 got selected through regular process. Rest were called for One Day counselling (24 candidates got seat in this process)
