Class X : 86.25% (WB board 2003, school topper, considered a very good score)
Class XII : 81.6% (WB board 2005, pretty good considering people focus more on JEE)
Grad : 8.51 DGPA , reduced to 77.6% (WBUT, from the best college under WBUT, among top 15-20 of my class)
Work-ex : 3yrs (self-employed)
CAT scores : 99.56 (VA : 90.42 QA : 99.89)
Calls : IIM-L, New IIMs
Here is what I wanted to let you people know. I'll be sharing each institutes selection criteria for GDPI calls in order of weirdness (strictly in my opinion, not intended to hurt anybody)
IIM-Shillong : No weightage to CAT scores, Class X or XII scores. All people above 90%ile are put on the same boat and then those with highest graduation marks are taken in without any normalisation for diff scoring standards across diff universities. So selection criteria is solely Grad scores (different across different disciplines). It was 86.3% for engineers. So even if you score 100%ile doesn't matter.
IIM-Indore : No weightage to CAT scores, all people above 90%ile overall and 85%ile sectionals are selected. Then 35 each weightage is given to Class X and XII and 30 to Grad score. So in short they select 20,000 people and give calls entirely on Past acads making CAT scores immaterial. So even if you score 100%ile you'll not make through if you're not a guy who has seen consistent 90s in life. (There is a normalisation process in place but I doubt whether it helps)
IIM-Kozhikode : Till now we had a look at how CAT scores are made immaterial by I n S. Now comes K which apparently gives 50% weightage to CAT scores. But let me show how is that an Illusion. A person with 100%ile gets 50 with 98%ile gets 49 92%ile gets 46. so one who scores 100%ile and 92%ile are 4 points away, Girls cover this gap at once with 5 extra marks. Class X, XII and Grad scores are alloted marks in such a way that it becomes the game changer. People with less than 90% marks in school and 80% in grad have virtually no chance.
IIM-Bangalore : A lot of bias to girl candidates, and you stand a realistic chance only with 90% plus Class X and XII marks and 85% grad scores. People from prestigious colleges and work-ex enjoy benefits, Difficult to predict the clear selection process.
IIM-Lucknow : Cut off 99.4x for males with 3yrs work-ex. So work-ex plays a big role here. and it gives almost 6% weightage to gender diversity, the highest among all IIMs.
IIM-Ahemdabad : If you've a consistent record of 80%+ in all Class X,XII and Grads, then your cutoff will be close to 99.51percentile and even if in one of these you scored less than 80% you're looking at a cut-off of 99.96(CAT'12). So you can weigh your chances.
IIM-Calcutta : Probably the only college which provides some justice to your CAT scores if you're 81% + in Class X and XII. Missed it by 4marks overall, cutoff was 99.6x.
New IIMs : Largely on basis of CAT scores, with diff weightages to acads. But if you're 97.5 or 98 + percentile then you'll certainly get a call with decent acads.
So in short most of the IIMs have made CAT scores nearly immaterial. Score 99.7+ or 99.9+ to get probable calls from ACL baaki sab aapke acads ke bharose.
P.S. : With a 99+ %ile you've many other good colleges who will respect you better. MDI will be a sure convert(with a decent GDPI) and you've good chances at IIT-B,D, NITIE, FMS.
@intelligio1 i empathise your pain.
i was wondering what would happen if this was the case in other fields

As @intelligio1 has mentioned the weird criteria for all IIMs,so its high time for aspirants who enter to CAT race for the first time to have a clear cut idea about all top b-schools and set your career goals accordingly...people are messaging me with 99.5%ile with no IIM calls and asking where to join.....and the sad part is they had not filled any other b-school entrance exams or their forms(FMS,NITIE,MDI) and due to low grad marks few are unable to apply for IITs(IIT-B,D) even.....
P.S: please please have an update about the criteria going on and apply for those top colleges which suit your profile or acads...the last thing you want is a 99+ score in CAT and no colleges to go for after the announcement of CAT results...
...for CAT 13
@SBRPhoenix said:@intelligio1 Thanks a lot.....IIM is out of my minds....I am also a WB Board Passout (2003 and 2005) with 86.9 and 78.1Grad in 2009 from WBUT with 8.45 DGPAWork Ex of 3years in IT(Infosys, CMC and joining CTS)...No Hopes.. First Take of CAT with fierce work pressure to handle in ofc....Let me knw ur CAT exp and do i stand a chance to score handsome in my first attempt.
Exactly 5 days back, there was a boy here who wanted to prove to everyone how IIM-K does proper normalization & how WB board students are very "LUCKY" here.... If u go through the K & I threads, you will be shocked beyond ur wits on seeing the carcasses they have left behind.... Even the 100%iler Jaskaran Singh did'nt receive a call....So from today, if anyone gives u false hope/info (there are a lot of such people here) that u can get IIM calls at 80% in 10,12, just plain and simple ask them to shut the F*** up......
