do anyone knows from which month can we expect the mock tests to begin??
friends I am preparing for CAT 13 , n dis would be my first attempt at CAT. I am a currently working engineer who graduated in july 2012. i wud like to ask PG members to give their opinion on how i should prepare?? how many hours i should put in each day to click IIM? what books to follow??Strength verbal ability, logical reasoning and moderate in DI and QA.
P.S. i have started the entire set by ARUN sharma and am attending classes at carrer launcher. suggestions and opinions are deeply solicited. thank you

@TONYMBA well you have given two of them and i have given one....actually i was shocked to see my cat results as i was a consistent aimcat scorer...but i kept my mouth shut because given the stature of cat my reason would just have sounded as a lame excuse for a poor performance....but this time....oh boy no!!!!!

well same case with me..... my cat result was also less than my aimcat scores....but this time i will take CAT likely....taking CAT pretty close to chest will not work for me

same here..I have given 2 attempts and both times CAT shocked me to hell. The result was very different from my test scores and unexpected both the times. At last it all depends how your D day goes.
Years of hope and prep ...all left to 2 hours of luck or fate whatever we call it....CAT is pathetic!!!!!!!!

last yr performance was so so, with less preperation... pl. share the materials whatever you have in this thread..
It will be grateful if anyone can suggest me regarding how to prepare for VA, RC, Vocab... I suppose some ppl. may have some really useful tricks..

And @Estallar12 I read somewhere that you are from Jaipur. Can you suggest some good coaching institute in Jaipur which is good especially for VA.

I will suggest TIME because CL doesn't have good VA Faculty in Jaipur for now. :)

Regarding the material : Please follow the official forums for Quants, RCs, PJs etc...I think this should be more than enough. Else if you want to buy the material TF is good..Plus they have variety of packages for e.g. you can purchase only the QA part or the VA part etc..
For the vocab try to find out someone who had enrolled for time. They might be having flashcards..they are really useful for your vocab. Else TF has 5 words a day on their homepage..
Test series which you can join later : TIME( as more people are enrolled into it , so you'll have a better idea of your percentile etc), TF/CL (they have a decent questions and a lot of variety, the more , the better)

No offence meant , but I am sure you'll be writing CAT again. Please try to have faith. You can not abuse a system and still try to be a part of it. Try to think its fair, I am sure it'll help you rather than cursing it. BTW in all the exams it does come down to those 2 or 2.5 hours, not just CAT.

I have usually seen that IITians steal the show among the CAT 100 percentilers, SO i want to know whats in them which is not in non-IITian engineer and can that be developed. Please answer my question without being sarcastic or critical about me.I really want to know it.

see CAT consists of mainly quant and verbal.
now that IITians have cracked the India's toughest exam at the age of 18 which consits of maths we can easily expect them to be strong in quants. We can certainly develop that. But the speed that they have would be very much higher than us. At some point we can reach their level that is why we have at least one or two non iitians in that list.
Secondly, verbal. IITians (roughly around 8k) are the top quality students of India again. Dont you think their reading skills ans verbal ability will be better than ours? (this may not be true for all iitians but definitely true for majority )
So these are the 2 reasons acc to me.
Now there is something more in percentile.
lets say your score is 360 and mine is also 360
but i have 190 in quant and you have 189 in quant or little less,
so i will get a better percentile than you. So again IITians get an advantage snce they are strong in quant 😃 😃
PS : purely my opinion.
PPS : i believe one can score 100%ile no matter whether he is a IITian or not.

@StructuredKevin : Let me tell u what I think. I guess the way things are taught during engineering, the kind of the question papers they get are quite different. I m from a normal engineering college and its more like mugging up stuff and writing it during the exam. I guess its the same in most of the colleges. Even my assignments used to be something like write 4 descriptive topics in a notebook and submit 
So the problem solving & quants skills are almost lost during those 4 yrs.
IITians and students from other premier colleges have better teaching with more focus on problem solving. Their assignments , projects , exams make them think Thats one of the main reason IITians do better in a given competitive exam .

Well if u see all my posts you can understand that i am not against the system as a whole..i am just criticizing the changes that CAT has undergone from 09....
Now let us talk about what you have said....
For evry exam it does not come down to the 2 hrs entirely...your prep matters and what is the point of all the mocks that we give ...if so why bother preparing at all...
Yes I am a part of the system and i can criticize it ....who will point out the flaws if not candidates or your so called members....If people who are least bothered about CAT start shouting nobody cares right!!!!!!
For every exam there does not exist this mysterious aspect which we know as NORMALISATION but only for CAT and hence my agony...that too not just out of thin air but only because they dont reveal anything in the name of NORMALISATION.....
You are right ...you cant be against a sysytem and be a part of it but yes you can criticize it for its flaws and can very well speak about it....especially when your future depends on it....
FINALLY.....please dont start preaching things to people with the NO OFFENSE INTENDED tagline....Offense might be taken or not....DEPENDS!!!!!
