Can somebody tell me if an Indian passport is necessary to register for the CFA LEVEL 1 exam to be held in Dec, 14?
I don't have a passport, I have applied for a fresh passport which might take another 2 months to deliver.The second deadline for the exam is 20th Aug. The cost of the exam increases as the deadline increases. The last deadline of the exam is 20th Sep.
Is it possible to enter a random passport number while registering and can we edit the details of the exam at the later stage?This can save me money.Can anyone help me on this?

Hi guys, I have recently taken my CFA L1 and would like to share my experience:
1) Where do I study from: When you register for the CFA exams you are compulsorily made to buy CFA Curriculum Books(CCB) along with the exam registration. These books are too elaborate, confusing and make up for a difficult read. Schweser books are a very good alternative and are the most respected & commonly used, even by the most serious finance candidates. Now schweser costs abt 500$-1000$ and in the typical indian jugadi way, some stores like Laxmi stationary, Om stationary etc. in Mumbai give an exact photocopy of schweser notes for less than Rs. 1000 along with the software CD. With some compromise on quality, you would get a huge ROI. Lastly, CCB is a good reference(best being investopedia) material either to gain depth or understand stuff clearly.
2) Buy TI BA II Plus Professional calculator: Cannot stress this enough. BA II Plus is a poor calc. You end up typing some buttons again and again. Cannot comment on HP Calcs.
3) Increase decimal digits in your calc: Yes, you would be able to know the exact decimal digits till 8 digits. Here's how:

4) Keep ethics for the end but DO NOT neglect it.
5) Start with quant: This stuff is easy. As an enginner you must finish this in less than a week.
6) Make a table for Accounting Rules: Like an A/C rule for research cost separately for GAAP and IFRS. Table is the easiest way in this otherwise mundane topic.
7) 250 hrs are required if you want to be sure of passing the CFA. You could still make it with half of that, but you wouldn't be confident of clearing it.
8) Always remember the big picture. So you aren't getting the idea of duration. Relax, try to google out for videos. Still not getting it? Move on. Don't make this an ego-exercise about knowledge attianment. You want to pass the CFA and it will test the breadth of the topic not your depth.(At least for L1)
9) If you are done with all practice tests of Schwesser, you have a ton of material in CFA institute personal home page after registration. You also have 2 full tests for practice. It also has a study timetable to help you out.
