Guys, here are a few tips to ace the SPJIMR Group Interviews. I had converted SPJIMR Finance in 2009 and thought will share tips basis my experience. Have simplified this in a “ What/How “ framework. In SPJIMR, we have 4 or 5 candidates being interviewed together where each one is asked an individual question and there is a small GD topic where perspectives are asked.
1. Awareness of Basic concepts of your chosen specialization If you have chosen Finance specialization, you need to be aware of terms like GDP, CRR, SLR, Fiscal Deficit etc
Read up newspaper, basic books . For me a book titled “ Simplfiying Financial Jargons” by CNBC TV 18 helped . Discuss these topics with peers, your coaching institutes will also brush you up on this.
2. Confidence of why have you chosen your specialization? You need to have a strong logical answer to this.Theres no right or wrong answer but the interviewers expect thought clarity from you.
Keep your answer as genuine as possible. You should have conviction in what you say. Discuss what you have in mind with alumni, with your seniors, with coaching institute faculty. You can talk about inspirational examples from your industry if you are genuinely inspired. The key is it has to be a genuine answer from within.
3. Personality and culture fit My experience of clearing the interview as well as looking at SPJIMR successful alumni makes me feel that SPJIMR looks for balanced, smart working, affable, pleasing, confident, cheerful, team players . This is purely my opinion basis my experience. Well rounder personalities who can prioritize studies as well as extra currics.
Evaluate yourself and discuss with your close circle how you fare on these parameters. Each personality is unique and you cant change your traits in 30 days. So just be yourself and try to improve wherever possible. Attend a lot of mock interviews and mock GDs to see how you fare on these parameters. Talk to a few alumni also.
Have tried to keep it simple. Hope this helps. Most of it sounds very obvious but life is all about executing the basics with excellence. Simplicity wins always. All the best. Rock your interviews.
