Official TISSNET 2022 Preparation | TISS Mumbai HRM & LR

Could anybody tell me what were the PIT topics for MA Globalisation and Labour last year?

How many defence catagory candidates get shortlisted for interview for MA in HR n labour ? Will defence catagory 5 candidate get admission finally ?

When will the slot booking for PIT/PI begin?

How is MA in globalization and labour? How are the placements and what are the scopes for future in this course?

To anyone planning for TISS Mumbai

All courses in TISS other than HR are like ponzi schemes. Students waste 2 years with substandard education hoping to get good jobs at the end but then they end up doing jobs which even students with bachelor degrees are eligible for. In their 2 years, they try to convince themselves and other new students/aspirants about how good their courses are but soon the reality dawns upon them. Like those pyramid schemes, they try to bring in new students by inflating their placement reports and once you get in things go awry.

Then starts a scramble for jobs, inter-programme rivalry, cold responses from alumni who are in between changing jobs. In the end, you take what you can even if that means taking up a job which pays 3/4 lpa.

So again, please keep following points in mind:

1) If you were trying to get into an MBA college and you are not a graduate in Social Sciences and could not score good in TISSNET HR/CAT/XAT/CMAT/MHCET and your age is less than 25, then wait and go for another attempt while doing internships or taking up any decent job available.

2) If you are a social science graduate and you wanted to go for an MBA and could not get through above mentioned exams and your age is less than 25, then definitely join some classes and try next year.

3) If your age is more thn 25 and you have been without a job for some time, then you may join any course that you can get into but again you will be on your own. Try taking the best advantage of TISS without getting into politics.

4) For those asking about GL, SE: they are not management courses. You will have to sit for common placements in the end with other courses and take what you can. Mind it, it will be difficult for you to get into HR domain.

ODCL, MSc Analytics: Not worth paying 6-8 lakh rupees as you can get better opportunities in other Tier1/2 Colleges. ODCL students vie for the same positions as the students of HR and that becomes a bone of contention. Profs would seldomg come to your rescue as in other courses (other than HR).

Please think about what you want to do for the next 25/30 years of your life and then take decision. If you are <25 or even 25/28<, do not take a rash decision as you still got much time.

I have been shortlisted for analytics as well as HRM...but the priority order is 1st Analytics and 2nd HRM...Help me so that I get selected in HRM and not Analytics.

How is   M.A./M.Sc. in Climate Change and Sustainability
Studies ???

For the Aspirants planning to get into courses OTHER than HRM&LR:

1) Do proper background study about the courses you have opted for.

2) Look for and talk to the alumni of the courses on different platforms. Use Quora and LinkedIn profusely.

3) While observing the answers given by the alumni on different platforms look for words that indicate grey areas or dubiousness or are of doubtful character.

Like when they tell you the placement figures, they might use words like "Some seniors got this much package," "Job toh lag hi jata hai," "One of the seniors got placed in big4." "One of them got xyz lpa" etc.

4) Ask for proper, particular and exact details. Get the previous year brochure and name of the students from them and look up what they are doing now or ask the current batch students.

5) DO NOT GET EXCITED BY THE PLACEMENT STATS CITED AS THEY ARE INFLATED MOST OF THE TIMES.

6) Never ever think that you are running out of time.

Take a wise decision. It is your future and your money/your parents' money that you are going to invest. Don't get duped and be smart.

When will interview schedule be out??

can someone please share list of HRM-GD topics for 2019 and 2018..thanks !

How is PUBLIC POLICY course in Hydbad...I think placement scenario is not that bright even for this course?

How good is MA Analytics in TISS Mumbai? Is it more beneficial to pursue MS in Data Analytics from foreign varsities than TISS considering the fact it has just been introduced in TISS?

On public demand, an unofficial manual Avg. Package wise if I rank courses, it would go like these: 1)HRM & LR (18-20 lpa) 2) MHA (6-8 lpa) may go more than this subject to prior experience 3) Others (4-6 lpa) may go more than this subject to prior experience For all the courses other than HRM & LR, major profiles offered are as follows: Consultants (operations) Research Associates/Analysts (primary or/and secondary research) Sales / Business Development (target based) Business Analysts (if you have some prior knowledge and exp.) Children Counsellors in government schools/civil society bodies (for psychology girls) - avg. Package 3-5 lpa (source: my friends who are working in such profiles) Now students in each course will have two modes of getting placed: 1) IPC - Internal Placement Committee (made by respective courses) 2) CPC - Central Placement Committee (Fall back option for everyone) 3)IPCs of different courses compete with each other as the jobs in the market for all the courses other than HRM & LR are common and after graduating from TISS, one seldomly gets placed in a role related to their course studied. This competition often gets dirty with scrambling and internal inter-programme politics and rivalry. Usually courses and schools with greater numbers (Social work etc.) dominate and take the lion's share. 4) HRM & LR is entirely a different unit/entity in TISS having no connection whatsoever with any other course. It enjoys maximum clout in every sense both within and outside TISS so once you get in, do not bother or compare yourself/your course with their placement stats or practices. 5) Inside SMLS, GL and SE are entirely different entities from HRM & LR and will have no connection with HR. A good advice for them would be to work together from the start and coordinate with other schools and programmes to make companies come to the campus. 6) Once you get in, start thinking in terms of your School and not just your programme. From day 1 focus on placements, ask questions to your profs, do not shy away. You will be given options to change some of your course structure as procedures can be democratic in TISS. 7) Source: From what I get to hear from my batchmates both in HR and other courses: ODCL and MSc. Analytics are new programmes with nil or negligible alumni base. If you are planning for these, you will be on your own. You can expect little help from profs but ultimately this often leads to a civil war kind of situation with HR people and profs usually chicken out in the end by stating that " we are here to teach you, not to get you jobs." Profs for MSc Analytics will be majorly guest profs and doing such a course from a Social Science University for me personally is a bad idea when you have institutes like IIMs IITs IISC SPJain etc. offering great options. There goes your major competition. Students from these universities will have proper infra and profs to sustain such a technical course. So if you are a working professional, my advice would be to avoid it. 8) Students and aspirants, specifically in Development studies become victims of inflated placements stats. Beware and question everything. Most of the students go for UPSC even after this course by joining tution classes/staying at home doing self study. 9) It is really hard to clear UPSC or any other govt exam while pursuing a course in TISS. Exceptions can be there or if you are a genius. So if that is your goal, do not fall for this trite argument that "the structure of some courses coincides with the optional subjects" mumbo jumbo and continue your studies. Many students who entered TISS with dreams of IAS are still studying for it after a 2 year good for nothing course or are staying in Karol Bagh for further prep. Feel free to ask anything else.
