Exchange program is one of the best ways to explore the wide world while ensconced in the cocoon called Business School. Many students willingly let go of the opportunity since they don't want to miss out on their MBA experience with their cohorts and classmates, which is understandable. On the other hand, those that do go on exchange programs will find the experience empowering. It's a trade-off that not everyone is willing to make. Here's a refreshing perspective of Tuck from an exchange student - a very independent view and as authentic a reflection of the Tuck experience as can be expressed with an entire academic quarter of Tuck under the exchange student's belt!

Heard of the Glassmeyer/McNamee Center for Digital Strategies at Tuck? One of the alums it's named after is Roger McNamee, T'82. When I met him back in 2009, I came out of the meeting wondering whether I met a genius or an eccentric character. He's probably both. He is the epitome of a counter-intuitive investor - and he's been very successful betting against the flow. Sometimes, he's burned his fingers as well, but for him, everything is an opportunity to learn and do better.

He sings and plays guitar in his rock band Moonalice (he performs almost a 100 shows a year!), he's advised Bill Gates and Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg over the years, and has invested in some of the most successful companies as well. He's involved in many philanthropic activities and music for him is a stress busting cathartic experience. Suffice it to say he's a man with multiple talents, multiple facets, multiple passions, and a straight talker.

He's a master strategist and has his opinions on how technology is going to evolve. He's humble enough to acknowledge that the opinions might go wrong as well, but more often than not, he's been right. Suffice it to say he's a very interesting person to meet and get to know.

Here's an excellent piece that captures the idea of being Roger McNamee accurately:

Tuck is synonymous with unparalleled access. The Visiting Executives Program is case in point. Top executives of companies from around the world visit Tuck to speak to students and meet them one-on-one during office hours. They may also participate in classroom discussions of how the company faced and overcame a certain challenge which might be the subject of a case study that's being discussed. Students get to interact with them over breakfast, lunch, and dinner since they almost always make it a point to stay overnight on campus. All in all, a great way to get to the company and its leaders, and an excellent opportunity for them to get to know the student. More on the program below:

Good luck to all the EA round applicants - admission results will come out at 5 PM EST Thursday, Dec 18th (3.30 AM IST Friday, Dec 19th). Cheers!

Food is a universal instrument for bonding! And at Tuck, it's no different. Students, staff, faculty, alumni, visiting executives - everyone who is at Tuck is treated to way too much food and beverages with so many events happening all the time. In study groups, students get together at a restaurant or at one of the group member's homes to bond over dinner/lunch/barbecue/drinks etc. Sometimes, second year students and faculty invite first year students over to their homes for small group dinners as a way to get to know each other. Here's a student describing the small group dinner experience:

Going on a Holiday break. Will reconnect next week. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to all. Good luck to those of you interviewing for the November round and those of you who are applying in the January round. As always, reach out if you have any questions. Cheers!

Had a coffee chat in Bangalore with Tanmoy - T15. It was quite an interesting discussions. Some of the high lights are below:

1) Apart from GMAT score, you need to introspect on essays and applications with great details.

2) Scholarships are hard to come by, but there is a loan offered by Tuck with no cosigner which will take care of most of the expenses.

3) Tuck is consulting school and who's who come and visit the school.

4) Tuck Global consulting (TGC) is an important part of curriculum and an great opportunity to gain practical experience.

5) For PM roles, Amazon is the biggest recruiter and offers three different profiles:

1) PM 2) PM - Tech 3) Retail - Tech.

6) R3 is very difficult and mostly Tuck encourages for international student to apply by R2 - Jan 5th Deadline.

These are the points which I can re-collect over the head. I will update if I can re-call any other significant points.

Happy New Year to all of you. Good luck with your applications!

Time flies and before you knew it, the January round deadline is here. Good luck to all the January round applicants out there. All the best to the November round applicants also as they await interviews. As always, if you have questions, don't hesitate to reach out!

What do Tuckies do during winter breaks? They develop a global perspective by traveling around the world, be it for OnSite projects or for treks. Here are the reflections of a current student on what she did during the Christmas break.

Tuck's faculty and their commitment to teaching is legendary. They're always available for students to discuss professional, personal, and of course, academic topics. The following post is a fantastic illustration of how Tuck is a truly different community where faculty members literally grow the extra mile to enable students' learning. Don't miss the comment at the end by Prof. Leslie Robinson!

One of the highlights of my Tuck experience was the Tuck Global Consultancy project - the opportunity to work on a real project for a real client in an international setting. This program has since been rechristened as OnSite Global Consulting and continues to be one of the key MBA experiences of Tuck students who decide to work on such projects. The post below captures the essence of the most recent OnSite project taken up in Montevideo, Uruguay, and what such projects mean for Tuck students.

OnSite Global Consulting takes Tuckies all over the world. One of the most recent OnSite projects was in Ethiopia. Here's a low down on the experiences that students made their own by virtue of being staffed on this project.
