what should be approx. length of the essay tomorrow??

Some valuable inputs from @Zzeke for tomorrow's exam.

1) XAT has always been and will always be a VERY DIFFICULT paper. Identify easy ques, solve them and move on...Repeat the process. First 20 mins of your paper will decide your momentum, and your shortlist. Please don't get stuck anywhere. The XAT exam is not about speed. It's about accuracy: A score of 12-14 in QA, 10-11 in VA and 9-11 in DM will fetch you approximately 98, 90 and 90 percentile in the respective sections. Any over all score within 36-40 will over all fetch 97-99%ile. XAT is one exam where scores have been consistent over the years. It doesn't vary much. But it doesn't mean that the paper is predictable. It's not. They always throw surprises.

2) DM is one section wherein you will have to watch your guards. I have seen people scoring 99%ile in DM in 2012 and 44%ile in 2013. Be very sure of what you attempt. I, personally, don't think that's the section where you would want to MAXIMIZE your overall scores. Because the section is very TRICKY. You would keep attempting the questions thinking that you are getting them correct. Most coaching classes vary in their individual responses, and they ALL GET THEM INCORRECT. But most importantly, it's because you have practiced verbal for years, quants for years. But Never ETHICS or real life situations! Beyond that, it's a personal choice.

3) First, try to clear the cutoffs in every section, now that you have an idea of sectional scores. The maximization of scores can happen later on. What is the use of scoring 99.9%ile without getting a call?

4) It's a long, tedious and mentally taxing paper. It will inevitably throw surprises at you in the form of paper pattern, marking scheme, question type, question mix etcetera. This is one paper, I can personally vouch for it, wherein a well prepared guy gets to differentiate from a rookie unlike CAT and other exams. So be mentally strong and confident about yourself. Now is the show time. A strong doze of coffee might help, but don't get all hyper charged. Understand your capacity, and act accordingly. ( I preferred 2 Red Bulls)

5) Quants has traditionally been very very difficult though things have changed in last few years to attract and help DIVERSITY. So, you might have a very tough verbal/DM and a doable quants.

All the best,

All the best people...feels like ran out of steam somewhat after SNAP...2nd last exam of the season...need a break and then onto CET...
Nyways all the best..πŸ‘

For DM

6) Thumb rule to handle DM- Please understand that XL is college that is run by JESUIT society i.e Fathers. People, who have practiced celibacy all their lives, and made other grueling sacrifices are VERY VERY STRINGENT ABOUT ETHICS. They will give you a situation wherein a small malafide thing would have happened, mind you, just a small thing like breaking the signal, lying, fudging record to help some etc, and SUGAR COAT it in next 3-4 paragraphs showing it was extremely essential to do that WRONG practice. That's how you get trapped. We have stayed in that college enough to tell you that NEVER EVER COMPROMISE the right thing. NO MATTER WHAT. Don't think the usual DAILY ROUTINE THING. The option that's the obvious and grabs your attention at the first go will be A TRAP. Think carefully. Do the right thing, and then use brain to see how there can be other WAYS THAT CAN SOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH ETHICS INTACT. No shortcuts.

Was going thru previous years Essay topics"

β€œThe statesman who should attempt to direct private people in what manner they ought to employ their capitals would not only load himself with most unnecessary attention but assume an authority which could safely be trusted to no council and senate whatever, and which would nowhere be so dangerous as in the hands of man who have folly and presumption enough to fancy himself fit to exercise it.''
