Right now i am working in my family business of distributer agency, can anyone tell me how i should make my experience certificate and payslips , from formatting to writing, it will be great you you can share me your experience certificate and payslips it will be of great help Thankyou
Just a generic question. Does the length of the interview have anything to do with the admission chances? I've been hearing a lot about the interview durations but just couldn't reach a logical conclusion.

XLRI BM Interview experience.
GD Topic: 'Information Tech & Communication is creating a digital divide'
(8 people. Made 4-5 decent entries. Tried to rather touch upon the positives by stating the distant learning certification courses offered by top 100 NIRF institutes as declared in this year's Union budget and we discussed about Digital India initiative and all)
WAT- Just 8 minutes to sum up the GD in a single page. Can't make much out of that.
Interview:
3 Panelists(M1,M2,F1)
*Last one to walk in
M1: Hello, Kindly take your seat.
(F1 asks for the file)
M2: So, you've been working for almost 3 years. Tell us about your company. How is the working enviroment?
Me: Described briefly.
M2: What do you like the most?
Me: Umm, the work environment. Supportive seniors, my work responsibilities. Not so much of work load tbh. Somewhat the job security which gives me the peace of mind and perform better without being vulnerable much.
M1: (Smirking all the while) So, are you aware of our curriculum? Have you gone through the college brochure?
Me: Yes, i have a fair bit of idea from what i've researched.
M1: So, tell us, how many subjects are there?
Me: Well, sir, asper my knowlegde we have there are 6 majors(Marketing,Finance,OB,Information Management etc) and there are a lot of electives under each Major to choose from.
(M1 cuts in between. Are you sure these are all under one course?)
Me: Yes sir, i'm positive.
M1: Okay, So how many subjects are taught in total during the entire course?
Me: Im sorry sir, i dont know the exact number.
M1: That's okay. Take a guess!
Me: Um, okay, so since the course duration is of 2 years and its divided into 6 terms as i can vaguely remember and since there are 6 majors along with electives so if one has to take up 3 electives along with the major subject, that makes it 4. So, basically 6*4= 24. I'd say 24, sir. (I wasnt aware of the subject credit system and all up until then )
M1: So, which subjects are you interested in?
Me: I'm here to explore all the domains but am slightly inclined towards Information management as i'm a tech enthusiast. While researching about the college, i also came across this interview of Prof. Sumit Sarkar about Game Theory. That intruiged me as well and i look forward to learn more.
M1: Hmm, okay, i'm done.
M2 takes over.
M2: So whats the most significant challenge did you face in your work life?
Me: When i joined my first project, it was a for a US based energy company which deals in power and electricity. Since it was a new module which was acquired, there was only one other member and the hiring process was still going on along with 2 on-site counterparts. During our knowledge transition sessions in the beginning, as the SMEs were based in the United States, the sessions used to start late in the night and went on till early in the morning. My other team member was a middle aged man and had health issues so couldn't continue staying up that late. During that time i single handedly had to take the responsibility from offshore side to make sure that the process was seamless and made significant contributions from preparing the System Information Documents to being involved in the reverse knowledge transfer sessions which went on for a couple of months. That initial experience made me adapt to a challenging situation right at the beginning of my corporate career and gave me the client exposure which has helped me a great deal in building relations with them.
M2: So what do you think was missing in your work life that you decided to do an MBA?
Me: I'd say that i've mostly been working on the business application side of things wherein i'm not able to contribute much apart from following the orders and applying the business decisions. I feel I have the potential to contribute on much larger scale and be on the decision making side of things.
M2: So you feel that you'll achieve that over here?
Me: I'm here to gain the knowledge which will be helpful for making decisions in the future if and when i'm trusted with such a responsibility, sir.
(In the meantime, F1 pickep up on one of my self assessment answers)
F1: So, you're a fitness freak eh?
Me: A fitness enthusiast, maám.
F1: (Smirks) haha okay, so how will you go about getting kids in Jamshedpur say, in the age group 10-15, get into fitness? Give me a structured answer.
Me: Um, I guess i'll start off by targeting the schools first. Because that's where i'll be able to reach out to max no. of kids.
F1: Okay, say, there are 70 schools in Jamshedpur.
Me: Okay, So, we can't jump right in and target all the schools. So we'll have to target specific schools.
F1: Why? Why not all?
Me: Given, we'll have limited man power, it'll be easier to for us to focus and target the top and famous schools and use their feedback and goodwill to diversify in the future.
F1: Okay, say, you've zeroed onto 25 schools. What next?
Me: We'll go talk to the respective school management and prepare a presentation with our curriculum and activities involved along with showcasing the benefits.
F1: They've agreed. Then?
Me: Since we wouldn't want to disrupt the ongoing school curriculum, we'll plan for the activites on weekends for a couple of hours.
F1: Many a students come from far off. That wont be viable for them.
Me: Okay, in that case, we can do it post school hours.
(Question following on how i'll attract the students)
F1: So basically you'll focus on the schools and the students right?
Me: And the parents too. Since, the age group 10-15 roughly corresponds to students from class 5-10. Parents play a huge role during that time in shaping our future. We see a lot of parents enrolling their kids for multiple tuitions these days but its equally important for them to understand that physical wellbeing is as important if not more.(Quoted how i read a survey conducted by WHO and UNICEF regarding child wellbeing where India ranked 131/180 odd countries and parents need to understand that and take measures)
F1: hmm, okay, that's all. We're done.
(M2 was kind enough to offer a chocolate)
*Everyone in my panel got it. No big deal!
P.S- Funny how the post turned out so long although the interview felt like relatively short.
Admins : As the results are going to probably be released by 15th may, can we get the exact date ?
I know this is off the topic but I really need some help here.
I am looking for online Executive MBA proggramme in HR. Any suggestions on where to look or which courses should be considered?
Hey folks! Do share your thoughts (this is for BM). Mentioned below is the transcript (with as many details as my memory allowed):
*Apologies in advance for the long post (tried keeping it as brief as possible)

Work Ex - 3years (2 - Auditor, 1 - Analytics)
GDWAT Topic - Transition to Industrialization is necessary as Agriculture only contributes towards 16% of the national GDP
GD - Group of 8 (1 member was absent). Was able to pitch in with three opinions backed by facts/examples. Shaped the overall opinion towards a solution oriented approach to the topic. Therefore, would categorize it as good.
WAT - Decent (had only 8 min to summarize)
PI - Decent - I was the 6th candidate to go in (approx 45+min)
Interview Panel (F1,F2,M1)
1. F1- So you are from management finance background, it's a 3 yr course and there is a gap between your school and undergrad - I was pursuing a career in a different field (I explained what it was) and took a gap year for that
2. F1- You have listed that Analytics is the reason that you want to do an MBA. - I said it's not the sole reason, it complements my objectives. I explained how MBA helps understand problem statements better and how analytics answers a question very effectively.
3. F2- Asked me to give one example of how I used Analytics to solve a difficult problem - (this was straight out of the self assessment questionnaire).. I explained one instance when I analyzed the segregation of duties and conflicting accesses for one of my clients, for which, I earned an accolade from my company.
4. F1- What will MBA provide over and above BBA - A BBA is not keeping with how a company operates today where as an MBA does. (I used the example of accounting. but the panel negated saying MBA's accounting also is similar. I beat around the bush here a little, saying how I will be able to perceive it differently because I have experience, but then they negated that as well). Then I said then there are other subjects such as decision sciences and game theory and how that can be applied to a business that a BBA would never touch upon that creates an MBA's value proposition for me.
5. M1- Why should we select you as a candidate over and above a person with a better work experience (maybe from a company like Amazon. P.S. i work in the ecommerce field) - I said that yes the proposition that a candidate from Amazon is a good idea as Amazon is a much bigger player.
6. F2- Cuts me off - How is Amazon the bigger player? Isn't Flipkart the market leader in India - Yes ma'am, but only in India. Amazon is a pioneer when it comes to having diverse revenue streams with their offerings such as AWS and the Amazon Media Company. As their e-commerce wing is not a consistently profitable entity. Also they have been able to convince their shareholders of their long term vision. In a way Amazon is a role model and Flipkart has emulated some of Amazon's strategy.. The reason why they edge out in the Indian market is because we tweak the solutions specifically for Indian consumers. (Then to argue in favor of my candidature) My work ex in both a business heavy and in a technically heavy role will enable me to place a bridging perspective during class discussions where people (from either of the two backgrounds) will have difference in opinions and I will be able to bridge them both and move the discussion forward.. apart from technical abilities, I also have always looked out for my peers which is one of my best qualities.
7. M1- So you say that your experience and your ability to help others is why we should select you - Yes sir, I believe I will be able to contribute as much as I will gain from my peers.
8. F2- They asked me what I did differently about what I was trying to pursue during my gap year - Explained what I did and why I decided to stop pursuing it.
9. M1- Asked me explain why the electric vehicle is not popular in the Indian market - The Indian consumer tends to evaluate the cost of a vehicle by its sticker price and not by its total cost of ownership. Also charging infrastructure is major hurdle (but as it is a capital intensive problem, govt is better suited to solve it). I gave them the example of Ather, a Bengaluru based start-up that is the only one trying to manufacture all components, including the battery which is one of the largest cost factors, in India, in order to reduce the sticker price of the electric vehicle)
10. M1- Asked me to make a b-plan about how to bring electric vehicles into the Indian market - I started off with a plan to work on two wheelers (as electric two wheelers are more popular that 4 wheelers in India)
11. M1- negated saying that I have to build a model for 4 wheelers - I said we could start by selling a retrofitting service to cab / fleet owners (who already understand the benefits of the cost economics of a vehicle) and also retrofitting the existing vehicle is cheaper
12. M1- Cuts me off again saying that I should not think about retrofitting as that is too expensive (instead I should sell brand new cars) - I think the end to end domestically manufactured vehicle will be the best approach to keep the production costs low
13. M1- But how would you sell it to an individual customer. It will be too expensive. I should let the customer subscribe to the vehicle instead - I said I did not understand that question
14. M1- Clarified that I should give the vehicle to them and then ask them to pay me based on their usage (price / km) as that was the value proposition that an electric vehicle has over a regular one - I said that it works when a minimum usage is met. This model is applicable for a ride sharing model but the Indian consumer prefers owning the vehicle instead, the market is not really mature for ride sharing yet. Instead we could lease (like Zoomcar does). Then I also gave them the example of how Bounce is trying to do exactly this.
15. M1- Again negated saying that just transfer the ownership and ask them to just pay per km usage as most of them will travel 10,000km per year - I said that 10k is a high number and that every user doesn't do that.
16. M1- Asked me to back-calculate per day km traveled (they did not offer a pen paper and I didn't request for one also) - (I slipped and made calculation mistakes here) then I apologized for my math and then gave them the right number which is just approx 27km/day every day for a year.
17. M1- they said that this is a very achievable number (this much toh they do in Jamshedpur only) They rounded the number to 30km and said that this is the minimum we will ask out customers to pay (if they travel below 10,000km also, they will have to pay for that) - The threshold is too high, where in a city like Bengaluru I travel a significant distance and I only do 15km/day and that too only on weekdays, so 10k per yr is a high target for many. Also having a minimum threshold at all, is a condition that the consumer might not receive well. Also there will be an issue with the working capital management wherein we would have incurred the total cost of making the car but our revenue will not come in at the same rate.
18. M1- But then don't today as well customers buy the car and pay in installments - That's the loan model, wherein the car manufacturer gets paid a fair sum and the bank is the one that has to soak up the impact of the distributed revenue.
19. M1- Then just help the consumers finance their car - I said that the financer will also face the same working capital crunch that the manufacturer would.. in fact it will be very hard to convince a financial service to fund the purchase unless we can guarantee a minimum sale volume.. else the economies of scale don't make sense... This will be a risky move to begin with
20. F1- Apart from this, what are the other challenges that you see from the perspective of Operations - There will be a question about who will be responsible for and incur the cost of repairs and maintenance.
21. M1- The customer will bear it as they own the vehicle no? - I added that there will be a requirement to replace the battery pack after approx 10 yr of usage (which will be a costly affair). Will the manufacturer or the customer bear the cost?
22. M1- Customer will, cause they own the car - It forms about 50-60% of the vehicle cost. If we're asking the customer to pay 60% of the vehicle's cost down the line instead of 100% right now, it will only contradict the business case in the first place.
23. M1- Suggest a business model (something that doesn't have these challenges) - I repeated the same idea that I had mentioned before.. specifically targeting can aggregators (gave the example of Lithium urban tech Pvt Ltd) uses the same model.
24. M1- How the retrofitting would work - I told them that the battery pack will have to be placed at the base of the vehicle. It's the most commonly used battery position.. (they acted surprised, said that that is a very small space) I told them that another alternative is to house a battery pack in the bonnet by replacing the engine.
25. M1- (Seemingly taken aback) You'll remove the engine??! - I told them that the electric propulsion system does not require an engine or a complicated transmission as the motor can be positioned right on top of the axel.
26. M1- Remarked that I give the cost of things a lot of importance - I admitted, said that in this sector, the cost economics play a huge role and I can't ignore it. But that even their model would work only when a certain volume is achieved
27. F2- Said that they are done asking me questions. Asked whether I had any questions for them - I asked them 3 questions - 1. About opportunities from a specific field, 2. About a subject taught under one of specializations. 3. About how to best approach the MBA programme in order to gain the most value out of it.
Then I thanked them and left.

Ok i gotta put it out there. Here I am sitting with a mere 96.5 percentile and average profile and uncertain GDPI (good in my opinion but hey, you never know how your interview was perceived by the interviewers) worrying about my fate @HRM but still a tad hopeful and people here with 99. 5+ percentilers, great gdpi, great profile posting their experience and still unsure and not very certain of their selection. Bhaisahab confidence gir jaata hai. Oo bhai, maro, mujhe maaro :(
This poll is to know the chances of mediocre people like me.
Do you have calls from top 6-7 b schools other than XL and are you willing to prefer them over XL?
