Please llet me know the concept of mixture and alligation and help me out with the following questions...............

1)A bartender stole champagne from a bottle that contained 50% of spirit and he replaced what he had stolen with champagne having 20% spirit. The bottle then contained only 25% spirit. How much of the bottle did he steal?

2)The price of a pen and a pencil is Rs. 35. The pen was sold at a 20% profit and the pencil at a 10% loss. If in the transaction a man gains Rs.4, how much is cost price of the pen?

Please llet me know the concept of mixture and alligation and help me out with the following questions...............

1)A bartender stole champagne from a bottle that contained 50% of spirit and he replaced what he had stolen with champagne having 20% spirit. The bottle then contained only 25% spirit. How much of the bottle did he steal?

Since there are no options given had to solve it by writing eqns. Otherwise these probs can be done easily by using the options.
If x is the amount of champagne stolen,
(100-x)*0.5+ 0.2X=25 Assuming the amount of champagne initially to be 100.
solving for x we get x=250/3
So total amount =(250/3)/100= 5/6 of the champagne originally there.

Is the answer correct
Please llet me know the concept of mixture and alligation and help me out with the following questions...............

2)The price of a pen and a pencil is Rs. 35. The pen was sold at a 20% profit and the pencil at a 10% loss. If in the transaction a man gains Rs.4, how much is cost price of the pen?

assuming the price of pen to be x and pencil to be y
x+y=35
since pen is sold at 20% profit and pencil at 10% loss,
1.2x+.9y=39

solving we get x=25 and y =10

1) upper limit for x+y = 3+4=7
lowetr limit =2-1=1

so ratio is 7

2) try with options.....

for 12,if he give 1/3rd and 1 ie. 4+1=5, he is left with 7 whose 1/3rd is not in whole no

for 15, if he gives 1/rd n 1 more ie. 5+1=6, he is left with 9
now again 1/3rd +1 ie 3+1=4 so 5 left........
now 1/5th + 4 left ie. 1+4=5

so no mango left so 15 is the correct option.........

5/6 of the bottle , i.e 83.33%

ans- 72km/hr

Q2)the avg age of 8 person is inc. by 2 yrs when 2 men aged 35 & 45 yrs are replaced by 2 women.find avg age of 2 women

ans - 48

Q3)in a hotel where rooms are numbered from 101 to 130 each room give an earning of 3000 for 1st 15 days and 2000 for the later half,per room. find the avg earning per room per day(assume 30 days per month)

ans - 2500

thnxx in advance..............

1. dist/time = 54/0.75 = 72
2. weight inc of group = 8*2 = difference of incoming to outgoing masses
outgoing mass = 80
incoming = 80 +16
avg = 48

1. harsh wanted to subtract 5 from no Unfortunately he added 5 instead of subtracting.Find the percentage change in result.

a) 300% b)66.66% c)33.33% e)cannot be determined
d)50%

2. in an exam 80% students passed in physics & 70% in chem while 15% failed in both. If 325 students passed in both, find total students who appeared.

ans : 500

3. the ticket to theatre is worth 250. when price is reduced, sale inc. by 50% but collection record a decrease of 17.5% find deduction in price.

ans : 112.5

1. harsh wanted to subtract 5 from no Unfortunately he added 5 instead of subtracting.Find the percentage change in result.

Man whats the answer for this , i'm getting something which is not there in option .
%chnage = ((105-95)/95)*100, assuming 100 is the original number.

Am i missing something here ??

1. cannot be determined, depends on number on which operation is carried out.
2.500, 85% passed student....
students passed in both = 80+70-85 = 65%
65% = 325.
3.for consecutive percentage changes in product of two variables(A%,B%)
overall = A + B + AB/100
here, overall = -17.5
A = 50
On solving, B = -45%
reduction = 45% of 250 = 112.5

1. harsh wanted to subtract 5 from no Unfortunately he added 5 instead of subtracting.Find the percentage change in result.

a) 300% b)66.66% c)33.33% e)cannot be determined

i think its e. Coz for different values we get diff answers ....

3. the ticket to theatre is worth 250. when price is reduced, sale inc. by 50% but collection record a decrease of 17.5% find deduction in price.

Assume the price decrease as x

(250-x)* 1.5 y = .825* 250 * y

Solving gives x=112.5

let his capital be =x
firts year,capital after donation=1.5x*.5=.75x
2nd yr:.75x*1.5*.5=.75*.75x
3rd yr:.75*.75*1.5*.5=.75*.75*.75x

.75*.75*.75x=16875

x=40000

we are asked to find out : .75*.75*40000=22500

Lets assume that bill started with the golden figure 100 !!

No

Year 1 : 150 Earned , 75 Donated
Year 2 : 75 *1.5 (Earned) , (75*1.5/2) = 56.25 donated
Year 3 : 56.25 *1.5 earned , (56.25*1.5/2)= 42.1875 donated !!

now if 42.1875 corresponds to 16875
56.25 corresponds to = 16875 * 56.25/42.1875 = 22500 !!

Wallah !
