How to prepare for RBI phase 1:
There is a lot of difference in preparing for Civil services and RBI. Based on questions asked in previous years, I am writing my impressions on how to prepare for GA for Phase 1
1. Do not read from too many sources. In the end, it will be so much of material that it will difficult to organize, revise and remember
2. Read “Hindu” from January 1, 2014 to July 15, 2014 for current economics and finance. There is no need to go into too much detail. In Hindu newspaper of 1 day, not more than 15 lines are important. Political news are not important.
3. In phase 1, besides newspaper, read the following topics:
a. static economic and finance terminology: from Ramesh Singh
b. 5 year plans including details of 12th five year plan: from Ramesh Singh
c. International bodies like IMF, WTO, WORLD BANK, BRICS, EUROZONE etc: from Ramesh Singh
d. Various types of bank accounts and saving schemes: from any book on banking and Ramesh Singh
e. Functions of RBI: from Ramesh Singh; also read FAQs on RBI website
f. Stock markets and SEBI: from Ramesh Singh
g. Budget: to be presented on July 10, 2014
h. Census 2011: from net
i. Major social programmes (only salient features) from Ramesh Singh or Year book 2014 (not both)
4. No need for remembering statistics except for the figures in the budget. Statistics related questions (e.g. dates, percentages, figures etc.) are not asked now a days
5. Persons in news, sports, awards and authors of books will be covered in “Hindu”
6. Remember “important days” from any GK book
7. Studying and remembering other static GK ( e.g. biggest delta, largest forest etc.) is not cost effective (as only 1-2 questions are asked)
Hope this helps
Anybody who has compiled all current affairs of this year from The Hindu or Economic Times please share. If you know of certain current affairs sharing forum, then please share that too
