- India refused to sign a Trade Facilitation (TF) Agreement, a part of the Bali agreement in World Trade Organization (WTO).
- Trade Facilitation (TF) Agreement is for ease in clearance at ports and airports across 160 member countries.
- India wants the TF Agreement to be finalized only after WTO members agree to changes in rules on Food subsidies, also a part of the Bali agreement.
- Parliament
passed the Finance Bill 2014 by voice vote. This will give legislative
effects to the tax changes proposed in the recent budget.
- Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said Congress can not be given the status of main Opposition party in Lok Sabha as it failed to secure the minimum 10% seats in the Lok Sabha elections. He conveyed the same to Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
- Rajya Sabha member Kaptan Singh Solanky was appointed as the new Governor of Haryana by the President. He replaced Jagannath Pahadia.
- India, US, and Japan kicked off the trilateral "Malabar Joint Naval Exercise".
- President Shri Pranab Mukherjee received first copies of the following books:
- "Thoughts and Reflections" - a compilation of Quotes of the President
- "Winged Wonders of Rashtrapati Bhavan" - a book on the birds of the President's Estate by Dr. Thomas Mathew

- Reserve Bank of India fined 12 banks Rs 1.5 crore in total for not following due guidelines in advancing loans to Deccan Chronicle.
- Deccan Chornicle has defaulted on dues to the extent of Rs 4,400 crores.
- The banks which have been fined are Andhra Bank, Axis Bank, Canara Bank, Corporation Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, IDBi Bank, IndusInd Bank, Kotak Mahindra bank, Ratnakar Bank, State Bank of Hyderabad, and Yes Bank.
- India's forex reserves surged by US$ 813.2 million to reach US$ 317.85 billion in the week ended July 18.
- Ministry of Textiles has fixed an export target of USD 45 billion for textile products for the year 2014-15, in consultation with the Industry.
- Container Corporation of India, a listed PSU under Indian Railways. was awarded Navratna status by government.
- The initial validity period of Industrial License has been revised from two years to three years, extendable upto five years as a measure of ease of doing business. Several industries in India still have licensing requirement.
- State Bank of India launched the "Home Loans on Wheels" scheme. Under the scheme in-principal home loan sanction letters will be provided to potential borrowers on the spot by bank employees sitting in the vehicles/ vans.
- A Market Research and Analysis Unit (MRAU) has been set up in the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) with the objectives of analyzing media reports relating to financial frauds and for conducting market surveillance of such corporates.
- The Government has dissolved the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) with effect from 24th July, 2014.
